Hi Spinners, where can i download the skin? -
This was an unexpected surprise for me. Poland and Russia are out of the championship. And i thought, that both teams would have a good chance to come into the next round. Greece and the czech we will see again on the green.

Russian soldiers/pilots in Vietnam?
Gepard replied to MAKO69's topic in Military and General Aviation
North vietnamese MiG-21 aces: Nguyen Van Coc......9 kills Pham Thanh Ngan.....8 kills Nguyen Hing Nhi.....8 Kills Mai Van Cuong.......8 kills Dang Ngoc Ngu.......7 kills and 8 pilots with 5 or 6 kills North Vietnamese MiG-17 aces Nguyen Van Bay......7 kills Luu Huy Chao........6 kills Le Hai..............6 kills Nguyen Nhat Chieu...6 kills I think the legendary Col Tomb was an imagination of the US pilots, an amalgam of all vietnamese ace pilots, caused by photos of vietnamese MiG's with a lot of kill marks, and the missinterpretation, that the killmarks means that the kills would belongs to a single pilot. Correct was, that the killmark was credited to the plane, not to the pilot. -
"Berliner Luftbrücke" - When Allied Airmen fed the isolated West Berlin
Gepard replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Ehm. At this time West Berlin was not surrounded by the GDR. The GDR was founded on 7.October 1949, more than one year later than the start of the Airbridge and one month later than the Federal Republic of Germany. The "birthday" of the FRG was never an official celebration day, because also the most "smart" people of Germany would realise who had ruptured Germany into parts. West Berlin was never a part of the FRG, it was a seperate part of Germany under westallied occupation (you can called it protection if you want). The Berlin Blockade was started when the west allies made a surprising currency change. They changed the old Reichsmark into "Deutsche Mark West Berlin" under the condition, that only money on saving accounts were changed in a relation of 10:1. All cash money was not changed. At the same time the Reichsmark was the official money in East Berlin, so that billions of Reichsmark flew over the open border into the east and had a devasting effect of the east german economy (inflation) The soviet command had seen only one methode to stop the moneyflow and closed the border with military force. Then they organized a money change in the eastern zone of germany. and so on..... Perhaps we will see a similar behaviour of the EU states if Greece will leave the Euro zone. Maybe. Enough with backroundinfos. The british, american and french pilots made a great job. No doubt. -

Norway Map?
Gepard replied to TheWarrior's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
You cant expand an existing map. If you want it larger you must start from the scratch and build a new one. Unfortunatly. -

Okay, back to the Catalina. One problem was that the soviets and the western states disagrred about the sea borders of the Soviet union. In western views, the bay of Riga was (in the 40th - 60th of the last century) open and international water, while the soviets claimed it as their own territory.

Okay. To the KAL story. There was a RC-135 in the aera. That had sniffed around a lot of times, came over the radar horizon and hide behind it. Again and again, contiuse provocation over some hours. When the KAL007 appeared, the RC-135 was on the way home, but the soviets thought, that the KAL Jumbo was the RC-135 again. Missidentifikation is easily possible, because the RC-135 has a humpback like the 747. Some days ago, american planes violated the soviet airspace in big numbers, flew across Kamchatka penisula, which was seen as a humilation of the soviet air defence. The officers in Far east got serious troubles with STAVKA (soviet HQ), so that they were willing to stop every violation of airspace with using of fire. The americans were aware of the soviet alert situation and knew that the kAL was away from its course. In this situation they could have easily contacted the KAL plane or via Red Telephone the soviets. But they did nothing. The american side is as guilty as the soviet side for the dead of innocent people. You say, the plane was indentified. This is only partly true. It was identified as a 4 engine plane with humpback and lights on the side. In the soviet air community is gave the rumour, that the americans used camo lights to cover their SIGINT RC-135 as Boing 747, so the KAL Jumbo was seen as american spy plane and thatswhy shoten down. Of course this was a big mistake. But only some days later the same ground contoller ordered an fighter attack on a soviet IL-22 sub hunter, because it was missidentified as P-3 Orion.

Russian Huey what-if?
Gepard replied to dsawan's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Sci-Fi/Anime/What If Forum
Make a netsearch for Mi-22 and you will be surpised. -
Ich stimme meinem Vorredner völlig zu. Als alternative Taktik hilft nur das Ziel selbst zu zerstören und den Flügelmann mit Luft-Luft-Raketen auszustatten um ihn als persönlichen Geleitschutz zu verwenden.

Norway Map?
Gepard replied to TheWarrior's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
Norway is difficult to make as terrain. You has a lot of fjords, the land is rough. Not easy. And as closer you come to the north pole the warp effects of the terrain editor become more and more important. What means, while the north south distances are more or less accurate, the west east distances are wrong (in the north more than in the south of the map). -
The KAL007 shotdown was a bad game on the back of the passengers. And it has a very bitter taste, because the american intelligence community sacrificed innocent life by doing nothing. It was a "nice" trap and the soviets were catched with trousers down.

The dutch team still has a minimum chance. If Germany wins against Danemark and Holland wins against Portugal with 2:0.
