To fly deeper is neary impossible

For a country like Croatia, which is not really in the threat situation i think other birds would fit better. Take a look at the czech L-159 ALCA. Its very reliable and AMRAAM capable. It is a subsonic plane, but for what do you need supersonic capabilities really? To protect and police the croatian airspace the slow flight capabilities of the ALCA would be much more usefull than the possible supersonic flightspeed of the F-4F. An other good plane would be the british HAWK with Vixen radar. Also very good and AMRAAM capable. And if for prestige reasons a jet of the last generation must be bought then the Gripen would be the best choice for Croatia. Of course i know that Germany gave weapons and ammo to Croatia. Some croatian Mi-24 for instance were former east german helis. But with the MiG-21bis it is a little bit different. In the last year i have spoken with former LSK pilots and technicians of the MiG-21bis. And they told me, that all MiG-21bis LASUR of the LSK were scrapped. The MiG-21bisSAU you can see at some museums. If you want i can post the technical numbers of the LSK birds, so that you can confirm wheter the croatian MiG-21bis came from Germany or not. Its an offer.

Is this proof that they were ex east german MiG-21bis? Can you tell manufacturing numbers of the planes to confirm it? It is always denied by german authorities, that Germany sold MiG-21bis to Croatia. The old MiG-21bis is of course inferior to the F-4F. If you get a MiG-21bis updated with israeli, italian or new russian radar it would be a different thing. A MiG-21BISON (MiG-21/93) is a very capable plane. But the question is not which plane is more capable. The question must be which plane Croatia can finance! If croatia is not able to hold a fleet of 40 MiG-21 in a flight worthy condition it will be not able to hold a F-4F fleet in flight worthy condition. The F-4F flight hour is 3 times more cost intensive as a MiG-21bis flight hour.

If you like oldtimers, then the F-4F ICE is a good choice.

The czech ALCA L-159 Albatros would be my choice. Its the successor of the L-39. Its very reliable, has excellent flight caracterisics. Is a plane which can be handled very well by trainees. The cockpitdesign and th electronics are orientated on the F-16, so that polish pilots would have no problems to switch from L-159 to F-16. The czech have the know how to build a good trainer.

If you look right on the picture you will see two parachutes. What means that it is a MiG-23UB combat trainer. It is also claimed, that this plane was flying for the rebels, not for G.. I had seen the video of this crash and saw no Flak fire or missile. It seems to be, that there was a fatal engine failure which caused the crash.

Hätten die Amis die 105 überhaupt verkauft? So weit ich mich erinnere war das doch das primäre nukleare Angriffsflugzeug der USAF und war somit nicht zur weiten Verbreitung zugelassen.

Also ich finde die Bemalung nicht übel. Vielleicht ist das Richthofen R ein wenig zu groß dimensioniert, aber sonst sieht die Mirage gut aus. Ne, nicht wirklich. Wir hatten es im Gegensatz zum Kolja goldig. Die Kaserne die ich besucht habe gehörte zu einer Tieffliegerradarstation in Hereden(? schreibt man vielleicht auch anders ?) Es gab ein großes Kasernengebäude, das Kolja selbst gebaut hat. Weiße Klinkerziegel, ein Klinkerstein dicke Außenmauern, die Fenster undicht, es zog wie Hechtsuppe. Im Schlafsaal waren vielleicht 100 Betten. Dazu gab es pro Mann einen Nachttisch, sonst nichts. Es war März und schweinekalt. Deshalb hatte ich meine Wattekombi an. Das Kaserengebäuse war zum größten Teil unbeheizt. Vielleicht 10°C. Die Soldaten sind dort in ihrer dünnen Tuchuniform herumgelaufen und haben sich den Arsch abgefroren. Im Zimmer das KC war wenigstens geheizt, aber selbst der saß in Wattekombi am Schreibtisch. Die Bedingungen unter denen Koljas Soldaten in der DDR hausten waren unterirdisch. Immer kriegsbereit, immer unter Druck, keine Ausgang, kein Urlaub. Kein Wunder, daß etlich versucht haben abzuhauen oder sich die Birne weggeballert haben. Aber das ist alles OT.

Eure Ansichten zu den sowjetischen Fähigkeiten zum Angriff und den westlichen Fähigkeiten zur Abwehr in allen Ehren, aber hat jemand von Euch jemals eine sowjetische Kaserne in der DDR gesehen? Ich kenne so ein Teil. Wir waren ja schon schnell beim Verlassen unserer Objekte, aber Kolja war da weitaus besser. Die konnten innerhalb von 20 Minuten von Frieden auf Krieg umschalten und waren spätestens nach 30 Minuten mit Mann und Maus im Wald verschwunden. Die GSSD hatte die Fähigkeit aus dem Stand in den Angriff überzugehen. Und mal ehrlich, wenn sich der russische Bär an einem Freitag Abend gegen 18.00 Uhr in Bewegung gesetzt hätte ...

Drei Tage bis zum Rhein, sieben Tage bis zum Atlantik. Das war die Planung. In der Militärakademie Dresden wurden Planspiele der Rückwärtigen Dienste durchgeführt in denen es darum ging Truppen am dritten Angriffstag hinter einem großen Flußhindernis das etwa 400 bis 500km entfernt ist zu versorgen. Da braucht man bloß mal mit nem Lineal auf der Landkarte nachzumessen wo das ganze hätte stattfinden sollen. Auf der anderen Seite gab es auch Planspiele im Westen wo es darum ging sich an der Weichsel gegen sowjetische Angriffe zu verteidigen. Natürlich stellt sich da auch die Frage wie die BW an die Weichsel gekommen wäre

My statement about the Space Shuttle is not made to harm the proud of America. Of course, the Space Shuttle was a high tech device at his time and it is impressive up today. But it had a lot of design problems. Cesar said, a rescue system is dont designed for work while the rocket boost. I doubt. The SPS system of the Soyuz rescued two crews in the critical start phase. And i think the Apollo rescue system would have worked the same way. For the NASA it would have been better to follow the Dinasour project. It was cheaper and would have been faster to develope. With the Dinasour and the Skylab, the NASA would have had an unbeatable combination which was much more advanced then the Soyuz Salut concept of the soviets. The development of the Shuttle was to long, so that Skylab falls from Sky before the Shuttle was able to make his maiden flight. But without Space Station the Shuttle was worth only the half. With the ISS it became different, then the Shuttle had a destination and a good task, but then it was outdated and old. Old technic has its problems, thats natural. But all tasks the Space Shuttle had fullfilled, the NASA could have done better, faster and cheaper without it.
