Was haltet Ihr von folgendem Flugzeug?

Whilst out roaming the tinterweb... F-20 Site
Gepard replied to Slartibartfast's topic in Military and General Aviation
Its an old, well known site. But a good one. Its made by Mark Wade, one of the Northrope F-20 team. -
"Tastes salty, must be british!" is long away, now the rule is "smells oily, must be american!", and hopefully not tomorrow "Looks yellow, must be chinese!"

but not enough of them. We (Germany) stand there with much to less troops, with doubtfull rules of engagement, with to less and wrong equipment ..... The old Clausewitz wrote: "Make war in correct way or let it be." And so we stand there in AFG it is a "let it be." Unfortunatly.

MiG-17 Gunsight
Gepard replied to jjddoo's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The MiG-15 and MiG-17 had two gunsight symbols. One was used for dogfight (Kreiselvisier, sorry dont knwo the corrct english term, perhaps gyro targeting device) and the other was used for ground attacks. It was possible to show both symbols at the same time. The dogfight symbol was able to move, while the ground attack symbol was fix. The story of the US star shaped gunsight in soviet planes is a nice cold war story, but it is wrong. In the MiG-15 and 17 gunsights they used the german technology from WW2 which they captured in 1945. Correct is, that the radar range finder of the Sabre was the basic for the soviet radar range finders which were used in the MiG-17F, MiG-19S and MiG-21F. -

how to change the planes for dogfight
Gepard replied to seiran's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The scripted mission files you find in folder missions. They are msn files, which you can modify with notepad editor. The weapon load in such missions is defened with the line Loadout=AirToAir for dogfights. This you cant modify easily. The other methode is to use the single mission which is created randomly by the parameters you can set. In such missions you can change the loadout of your plane and the planes of your wingmens, but not the weaponload of your enemies. Below the lines for a dogfight mission F-14A vs MiG-29 for WOE [MissionHeader] AircraftType=F-14A MissionMap=GermanyCE MissionType=SWEEP StartTime=14:30:00 StartDate=09/18/1988 [MissionData] FriendlyAirActivity=1 EnemyAirActivity=1 EnemyAirDefenseActivity=0 FriendlyAirDefenseActivity=0 PlayerMissionID=1 PlayerPositionID=1 MissionNumber=5123 AdjustStartPosition=FALSE AdjustBaseWaypoint=TRUE [Weather] WeatherType=SCATTERED WeatherAlt=4000.0 WeatherThickness=500.0 FogAmount=0.6 ContrailAlt=8000.0 StartWindDirection=180 StartWindSpeed=2.57222 WindGustingAmount=2.57222 [AircraftMission001] AircraftType=F-14A Name=GUNSLINGER FormationType=USFighter Size=2 RandomChance=100 MissionType=SWEEP ObjectiveID=2 RatingForSuccess=100 Position=538176.0,629000.0,2800.0 Heading=90.0 Speed=265 Alignment=FRIENDLY Nation=USN Squadron=VF84 AircraftNumber=09 PilotTrainingStandard=EXCELLENT Loadout=AirToAir Waypoint[01].Command=WAYPOINT Waypoint[01].Objective=TRUE Waypoint[01].Position=530000.0,629000.0,2800.00 Waypoint[01].Size=1500.00 Waypoint[01].Speed=265.00 Waypoint[02].Command=APPROACH Waypoint[02].Position=235954.80,381722.90,2421.19 Waypoint[02].Size=1500.00 Waypoint[02].Speed=255.00 Waypoint[03].Command=LAND_LINEUP Waypoint[03].Position=236980.60,384370.00,807.06 Waypoint[03].Size=0.00 Waypoint[03].Speed=0.00 Waypoint[04].Command=LAND_TOUCHDOWN Waypoint[04].Position=245000.00,389000.00,0.00 Waypoint[04].Size=0.00 Waypoint[04].Speed=0.00 [AircraftMission002] AircraftType=MiG-29A Name=Strishi FormationType=SovietFighter Size=2 RandomChance=100 MissionType=CAP ObjectiveID=1 Position=543176.0,629000.0,2300.0 Heading=270.0 Speed=145.0 Alignment=ENEMY Nation=Soviet SquadronMarking=-1 AircraftNumber=21 PilotTrainingStandard=EXCELLENT Loadout=AirToAir Waypoint[01].Command=WAYPOINT Waypoint[01].Objective=TRUE Waypoint[01].Position=538176.0,629000.0,2800.0 Waypoint[01].Size=1500.0 Waypoint[01].Speed=145.0 Waypoint[02].Command=WAYPOINT Waypoint[02].Position=543176.0,629000.0,2300.0 Waypoint[02].Size=1500.0 Waypoint[02].Speed=145.0 Waypoint[03].Command=APPROACH Waypoint[03].Position=660564.78,662805.95,2421.19 Waypoint[03].Size=1500.00 Waypoint[03].Speed=145.00 Waypoint[04].Command=LAND_LINEUP Waypoint[04].Position=654980.60,676370.00,807.06 Waypoint[04].Size=0.00 Waypoint[04].Speed=0.00 Waypoint[05].Command=LAND_TOUCHDOWN Waypoint[05].Position=663000.00,681000.00,0.00 Waypoint[05].Size=0.00 Waypoint[05].Speed=0.00 -

how to change the planes for dogfight
Gepard replied to seiran's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
You can use the KMD for scripted missions or do it yourself with notepad. The other methode is to use the timeframe. Set the year of the mission to 1989 for instance and you will face randomly the MiG-29 or Su-27. -
Personally i hate 3d movies. Or better said i hate this f...ing 3d goggle you have to wear. Either the moviemakers can make 3d movies for the normal human eye or they wont see me again in a cinema.

DS9 was my favorite Star Trek for 6 seasons, the last season was rubbish. With Voyager it was different, there i disliked the first seasons, but when SevenofNine entered the Crew it became a really good show.

Delta vs F-4 tactics?
Gepard replied to harryleith's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
You are right i meant worser than worthier English language = difficult language  If Streakeagle said, that the combat records are favoring TK's assessment, so he is right, but also wrong. This point of view forgets one major factor and this factor is the soldier, pilot, who fight with the weapon. Only one example from October 1973. Israeli observers stated, that egyptian T-55 tanks fought from stand still and needed 35 to 45 seconds to open the fire after detecting an enemy vehicle. Its a fact and true, but to draw the conclusion that the T-55 is not able to fight while driving and needs always more than 30 seconds to open the fire is dangerous. Why? In the east german army (NVA) the T-55 tank crews were drilled to fight while driving and open the fire after 15 seconds maxium after detecting the enemy vehicle. Imagine what would have happen if NVA tanks would have faced egyptian tanks in 1973: Lets say one company in combat against one other T-55 company (10 vehicles each), one East german, the other egyptian, all tankers detect the enemy at the same time. After 15 seconds the east germans open the fire. Hit chance of T-55 gun was 2/3 = 66%, what means, that 6 or 7 of the egyptian tanks would be hit and destroyed. The duell is now 10 vs 4 or 3. Even if the egyptians would fire back now, they would kill only one or two enemy tanks, but in case, that the egyptians need 35 seconds to open the fire, the east germans would fire the second round 5 seconds earlier than the egyptians their first shot, what means, that all egyptian tanks would be destroyed after the second or at least third german salvo. The same happend when israeli tanks came in contact with egyptians in 1973. The israeli victories were victories of the more skilled soldiers, not of the better armed soldiers. And last to fight the F-4E in game with the Mirage III is possible if you stay low and not to fast, and never go vertical. In reality it might have been different. -
Its so safe, that no insurance company will give you an insurance coverage for it.

There are moments in the history which are burned in the brains of the mankind. And the most people still today know what they had done when they got knowledge about this moment. For the older generation the murder of President Kennedy was such a moment, or the begin of a war. And for our generation such moments are the fall of the Berlin Wall and 9-11. What did you do in the moment when you got knowledge about the attacks of 9-11? Lets begin with myself: I came home from work, it was a sunny day, i had gone by bicylce to work and back. When i entered my flat i saw my wife sitting in front of the TV set. She looked speechless on the screen where one of the WTC towers was smoking. She looked and looked and does not realized that i was home. I was a little bit angry about this ignorance and so i said:" What for hell do you watching this moviebullsh..... Is there nothing better on TV." I had not realized that it was live what she saw on TV, for me it was some strange movie. And then she answered: "Its no movie, its real!" For the first moment i thought nothing, glanced on the screen and did understand nothing. And then i thought: "Oh, oh!" and some seconds later "This means war!"

Delta vs F-4 tactics?
Gepard replied to harryleith's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The stock MiG-23 are undermodelled a little bit when you compare it to the F-4. The same is to say about the soviet missiles, even the R-3S (AA-2) is worther than the AIM-9B and it was in reality a perfect one to one copy. If you want to fight a F-4 with a Mirage or a MiG-23 or MiG-21 stay low, fight below 500 meters, there the radar of the F-4 cant lock on your plane, what means, that your opponent is unable to fire the Sparrows. in curve combat use the best turning speed of yor plane, what means, dont pull the stick to much, dont lose speed to much. Try to fly high speed or low speed jojos, if you has the enemy on your tail fly scissors, use your airbrake, make all the pilots stuff to avoid that he can open the fire. In a MiG-21 you can outturn a Phantom, with a well flown Mirage III too. -

On the other side of the iron curtain similar exercises were made. In one exercice mid 60th over the GDR (east germany)around 50% of the "intruders" made their way to their targets and back.
