The F-16A Netz is one of my favorit planes in WOI and i know that a lot of people love the F-16A too. I fought a lot of dogfights and scored more than 100 kills with it. Then i asked me, wheter i won the dogfights by i my flying abilities or by the superior missiles? When i was shot down by a MiG-29 i asked me wheter the enemy plane was better or only the missile. To get a correct answer i thought a gun only dogfight will show the truth. So i started to make a seria of dogfight missions between the F-16A Netz and the planes of the period. The F-4E, F-5E, F-14A, F-15A, F-16A, F-20, MiG-21MF, MiG-21bis, MiG-23MF, MiG-23ML, MiG-29A, Mirage 5D, Mirage 2000EM and Kfir C2 i took as enemy in 1 vs 1 gun only engagements. Later, if 1vs1 started to become boring, i made 16 planes air combats. In the most cases it are 4 F-16A vs 12 enemies. For planes with comparable flight performance, like the F-15A or MiG-29A, i decided to make 8 vs 8 engagements. For me its a big fun and it is challenging, even the hunt on MiG-21MF or Mirage 5 can become difficult and dangerous if enough enemies are around you. With the last WOI update pack Operation Kadesh you can use all SF2 lod files in WOI.

For fast calculation use following simple formula 4 * Meters/second - 10% = kph example 10 meters/sec * 4 = 40 - 4 = 36 kph

Hm. 17 minutes time left? In Hollywood it are always only some seconds. So far are 17 minutes a long time.

1. No, the plane that makes the last shot gets the victory credited 2. I have never seen replacement pilots 3. Flak hits you very seldom. 4. I have seen it too, but i think it is a bug 5. You will see enemy aces and own aces too. Have fun with FE.

The simpelst rule is not to move the stick while firing. If your planes lies dead like a brickstone in the air the missiles has its optimum hit chance. The other is not to fire on a curving target.

I would be carefull with such a conclusion. The german MiG-29G was the version with the worst flight capabilities of the MiG-29. A lot of very important systems of the MiG were simply switched of (Laser for instance) and the thrust of the engines was reduced by 10 percent. It is a big difference wheter you has 81kN per engine afterburner trust or only 72kN.

Reminds me to the Cheyenne project, which was a rival of the Apache.

It seems to be, that the g-limit of the F-15A was limited for the first time of their duty in Europe. Personally i think that it was only because of safty restrictions. Also today new introduced planes have a limited flight envelope in the first time. At Berlin ILA airshow i saw some years ago Mirage2000 or F-16 flying smaller circles than Eurofighter or Saab Gripen. Not because the later planes are unable to curve better, but because the pilots were still restricted not to overcome certain limits. Same will be the reason for the F-4F "victories" over the Eagle.

To come back to the Phantom, i want to tell you a little bit, what i have heared from west german F-4F pilots. They told, that in mock dogfights the F-4F had a fair chance against the mighty F-15A in the 70th and early 80th. The west german dogfight tactic against the Eagle was to dive down and to try to lure the Eagle in a low altitute engagement. At low altitudes the first F-15s in Europe were limited to 6.5g only, while the F-4F was able to pull 7.5g, what meant, that the F-4F was able to hold its own at low altitudes against the Eagle and with a little bit luck it was able to score. Completly different was the outcome when dogfighting at middle or high altitudes. Here the Phantom was unable to beat the Eagle.

For me it was also interessting to hear, that some east german pilots who migrated from the MiG-15bis to the MiG-17 had the same experience as Mikhin. It seems to be, that not only Mikhin was not a big fan of the MiG-17.

Its a question of the landing gear and the weight of a plane. The landing gear of the Su-15 was not really fitted for grass stripes. On the one hand the plane was to heavy for it and on the other hand the tail section of the Su-15 was to low over ground, so that it was always a risk to touch the ground while landing. The same problems had had the MiG-23. Only the MiG-23ML seria was able to operate from grass stripes. For the MiG-21MF it was forbitten (following the LSK (east german Air Force) doctrin). The MiG-21 in contrary had a max take of weight below 10 tons and had relativly big low pressure tires. Take off and landing operations from grass stripes were regulary trained. And to Lexx idea with the Yak-28. I have read somewere an interview with a soviet fighter ace of the Korea War. If i remember right it way Mikhin or so, will try to find it. The guy said, that after his return to the USSR his unit was reequipped with Yak-25 and later Yak-28 and he disliked both planes. Ich bastele gerade an einem FM für die F-20. So weit so gut. Nur habe ich das Problem, daß das Biest linksherum weitaus schneller rollt als rechtsherum. Links etwa 2 sec für 360° rechts etwa 4 sec. Die Daten der Ailerons sind gleich. Sie sind auch die einzigen Steuerteile die für ROLL_CONTROL zuständig sind. Ich stehe momentan ein wenig da wie die Kuh vor dem neuen Tor. Welche anderen "Teile" beeinflussen noch die Rollgeschwindigkeit? Und wieso geht es bei mir linksrum schneller als rechtsrum? Hat jemand eine Antwort?

Bei C ... vom Skunkworks A Team gibt es ein statisches F-20 Modell, quasi als Bodenziel oder zur Belebung von Flugplätzen. Ich habe mich gefragt ob man das nicht flugfähig machen kann. Hab es dann mal versucht, ging relativ gut, lediglich die Steuerflächen drehten sich nicht an der richtigen Stelle und das Fahrwerk war nicht einziehbar, man konnte es aber verschwinden lassen. Ich habe eine Weile damit rumgespielt und dann einfach mal eine mail losgejagt mit dem Vorschlag, wenn C ... die Sache mit den Pivots und dem Fahrwerk macht, dann bringe ich der Tigershark das fliegen bei. Hat einen Tag gedauert und ich hatte das gewünschte Modell. Es ist zwar low poly, aber dann hat wenigsten mein oller Computer keine Performanceprobleme.

Ist mir jetzt echt ein bisschen peinlich. Es lag nicht am Flugzeug. Mein Steuerknüppel war nicht richtig kalibriert.

Wenn ich den Knüppel nicht bewege fliegt die F-20 immer schön gerade aus. Ich werde mal die Werte der Ailerons verändern. Mal sehen was passiert.

The Su-15 was a pure intercepter with no single kilogramm for air to ground action. It had not had a gun, only missiles. Later a gunpod was adopted. It was to difficult to operate under the conditions of semi prepared airstripes. In that point the MiG-21 was superior. It was able to take of from grass or sand stripes which were located only some kilometers behind the frontline.

Is there any progress on the tank mod?

Jet Thunder sieht wirklich beeindruckend aus. Hoffentlich verkraftet meine olle Mühle die Hardwareanforderungen.

The Kh-23 (Cha-23) was rubbish. Only one of 1000 launched missiles hit. Later the Yak-38 got the Cha-25 missile family. This were high accurate and deadly weapons. Used in Afghanistan very successfully (the missiles, not the Forger )

Ich habe mal nach Steel Beasts 2 gegoogelt. Beim Preis blieb mir einfach die Spucke weg. T-72 Balkans on Fire habe ich auch irgendwo rumstehen. Vielleicht gibts ja einen Mod, der den Leo spielbar macht. (Die Hintergrundgeschichte für diese Sim fand ich übrigend selten dämlich. Wer will schon für die Serben Kroaten scheuchen?)

I remember that i have seen somewhere the F-20 as static model, but not as flyable bird.
