Netherlands Terrain?
Gepard replied to mppd's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
I think the problem is that the Netherlands are partly below sea level. Some years ago i tried to build a terrain that covered Holland, but i got strange errors in game (high and sharp contoured hills instead flat lands.) -

MiG-21Bison (21-93)
Gepard posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
File Name: MiG-21Bison (21-93) File Submitter: Gepard File Submitted: 28 December 2009 File Category: Mig-21 Fishbed MiG-21 Bison aka MiG-21-93 aka MiG-21 UPG ************************************* HISTORY ************************************* In 1993 the MiG-21-93 made its debut on various airshows, for instance in Le Bourget and Berlin. It was a major update for the MiG-21bis which incorporated a modern radar, a modern data link system and modern ECM capability. The MiG-21-93 had a dramatically increased combat capabilities. It now can engage air targets at medium range and can use precison guided weapons against ground and sea targets. India updated its MiG-21bis fleet to the 21-93 standard and called this bird now MiG-21Bison. The bison showed its combat efficiency in various training combats including against american F-15's. ********************************************** MiG-21Bison for WOE, WOV, WOI, SFP1 credits ********************************************** While making the Bison i used a lot of files made by other modders. Thanks for this files! The plane itself: ~~~~~~~~~~ Model by TK The Cockpit is taken from Mirage Factories MiG-29A ~~~~~~~~~ Cockpit by Mago The added objects. ~~~~~~~~~ I took the MiG-23 drop tank to create the longer MiG-21bis style back of the bird. Then i used CIACHOs AKU-58 file to create the chaff flare dispensers And finally my little share ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I edited the Data file to implement the guided missiles, added the ECM and Chaffs etc. And i modified the original Skin to create a fictional East German Bison, the russian and the Indian version. I know that the Indian Bisons are more grey than the light blue, but due the Fake pilot methode i used to place the added objects i had to decide which color this objects should have and so i decided to use a light blue instead the grey. I hope that i havent forgotten someone to give the proper credit. ********************************************** INSTALLATION ********************************************** 1. unzip into your aircraft folder The subfolder MiG-21Bison will be created 2. make sure that the following files are placed in aircraft folder, NOT in MiG-21Bison folder: MiG-21IRWerfer.LOD and bmp MiG-21Stör WPact_Pilot.LOD and bmp otherwise you will see pilots sitting on the wings of the bird. 3. Now install the backtank with following steps 3.1. Put file MiG-21Back.lod and MiG-21Back.bmp into your Weapons folder 3.2. include following lines into your weapondata.ini [WeaponDataxxx] TypeName=MiG-21bisBack FullName=MiG-21bis Backtank ModelName=MiG-21Back Mass=0.000000 Diameter=0.470000 Length=5.155000 SubsonicDragCoeff=0.000000 SupersonicDragCoeff=0.000000 AttachmentType= SpecificStationCode= NationName= StartYear=0 EndYear=0 Availability=0 BaseQuantity=0 Exported=FALSE ExportStartYear=0 ExportEndYear=0 ExportAvailability=0 WeaponDataType=5 MaxFuelAmount=0.000000 Asymmetrical=FALSE 3.3 ) open Weaponeditor and click on save Now the MiG-21bis backtank is available. Sorry that i had forgotten to write it in the readme. Thats it! Enjoy flying. ************************************************ For remarks, comments, bugs, etc please use CombatAce forum or send me a PM. Hope you enjoy it. Em, nice toy. But it has a big recoil and its the question how reliable it is in combat. Can it fire also after landing in dirt and dust or is it such a beast like the first M-16s? And my opinion to the last words of the reporter: Of course this weapon would be a big surprise to the enemy in Afghanistan, but if you remember back, how fast the soviets captured the top secret Stingers in Afghanistan (it were only few days after introduction into combat), then i doubt that the Taliban would get no access to this weapon.

MiG-21Bison (21-93)
Gepard replied to Gepard's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
A complete new MiG-21bis would be very welcome. Of course i know that my Bison is not perfect. I made all what is possible via Fake Pilot methode. For a real Bison a complete new canopy must be designed and this is not possible with Fak Pilot. Unfortunatly. -
Red Storm Rising? Clancys story from the taleswood! Forget it! The Rambo movies are much more real than Red Storm Rising!

Who knew P-3's were so threatening?
Gepard replied to DWCAce's topic in Military and General Aviation
The answer is simple. Nobody like it if military planes of an other country flys over the territory of the own state. What would the US Military do if a venezuelan military plane would circle over Florida Keys? They would send out their F-16's. -
Cool movie from the USSR. German tile "Der Gegenschlag" "Counterstrike" Soviet naval infanterists during a combat exercise. Cool guys and a nice girl. I loved it when i was a boy!

Afghanistan Terrain version 1.0
Gepard posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
File Name: Afghanistan Terrain version 1.0 File Submitter: Gepard File Submitted: 01 January 2010 File Category: Terrains Afghanistan Terrain version 1.0 ======================== I. The word before: AFGHANISTAN Terrain IS MADE FOR WINGS OVER ISRAEL (WOI) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it runs with SFP1,WOV and WOE too, but then it does not include all features! *************************************** II. History: From December 1979 till now Afghanistan is a land in war. Soviets, Dushmans, Mudjahedin, Warlords, Taliban and Americans (OEF) destroyed the once florish land nearly completly. This terrain is dedicated to all man who fought in this country and to all who lost their lives in a senseless war. ***************************************** III. The terrain: Afghanistan terrain is now complete. It covers the areas around Kabul, Bagram, Jalalabad, Kunduz, Mazar i Sharif, Kandahar, Herat and Shindand. In comparision with Beta 0.75 i have again retiled some areas to include rivers and to make corrections. New target areas are set, especially around Herat and Shindand. I also included the airbase Shindand. It was the fisrt operational Su-25 base during soviet Afganistan war You can fly and fight along the Jala Road and surrounding mountains, the Kandahar region and in the north eastern part of Afghanistan where today the German ISAF sector is situated. You will find enemy positions in the hills and valleys north of Bagram, but also single bandit troops on the soviet/allied hold lowlands. You will find friendly and enemy fortified hill positions - number of set target areas: -215 - Missions which can be flown are CAS, Armed Recon, Recon, Strike,SEAD -Air to air missions are impossible, because no taliban airfield is set (as historical correct) -I recommend a seperate installation of WOI for Afghanistan terrain. The new nations.ini would otherwise make trouble with other terrains. (I set all nations = friendly, only Afghanistan= Enemy So you can fly for the Soviets and the OEF troops( USA,UK,NL etc) against the same Enemy) You can delete not needed planes (for instance Mirages) and groundobjects (SAM, Radar, most tanks etc) and you can include needed planes, like the Mi-24 or the A-10 more easily. -Panzers, like T-54,55,62 etc should be redesignated from TANK to ARTILLERY in their groundobjects data.ini. The reason is, that Panzers are widely useless in such a mountainous land. With the groundobjects i have included in this package you will have infantry engagements which are more Afghan style - Capun withdraw his permission to use his Mi-24D.lod and Mi-8T-Dest.lod file which were included in the Beta 0.6. Thatswhy you must download this files from Capuns site http://cplengineeringllc.com/SFP1/ -IF you NOT HAVE WOI, you can use this terrain with SFP1,WOV or WOE too, but you must download the Afghanistan tileset from CombatAce download section. Some groundobjects, related with WOI will with other games not appear. ******************************************* IV. INSTALLATION: -Unzip the file into your Wings over Israel Thats it! If you want then you can place mainscreen.bmp into your menu folder. Q: What is to do to make it usable for WOE,WOV and SFP1? For WOE open file Afghanistan.ini with notepad editor overwrite line CatFile=..\IsraelME\IsraelME.cat with CatFile=..\GermanyCE\GermanyCE.cat For WOV open file Battle of Britain 70.ini with notepad editor overwrite line CatFile=..\IsraelME\IsraelME.cat with CatFile=..\VietnamSEA\VietnamSEA.cat For SFP1 open file Battle of Britain 70.ini with notepad editor overwrite line CatFile=..\IsraelME\IsraelME.cat with CatFile=..\desert\Idesert.cat After this step install Afghanistan tileset by following the Afghanistan tileset Read Me. ****************************************** V. Credits: At this place i want to say thank you to Geo for his permission to use his SquadCent files which i modified into Taliban warriors etc. And to Wrench who allowed me to use Montys Stinger site which i modified into Blowpipe and Strela site. I want to say thank you to Pasko who made the lod file for the BTR-60 and 70 and the single soldier with SA-7 which i also use for RPG-7 and Mortar (recoilless gun.) I want to say thank you to Rebel Ryder for the Taliban Dushka and the Toyota Hillux. And finally i want to say thank you to all who found mistakes and gave me the hint. ******************************************* VI. Disclaimer: Afghanistan Terrain IS FREEWARE. COMMERCIAL USE IS NOT ALLOWED. Sharing of Groundobjects which are part of this package needs the permission of their makers!!!! If you find bugs please post them in StrikeFighters section of Combatace.com forum. ***************************************** VII. The final words: Hope you enjoy it. Good Hunting along the Jalalabad road! Michael (Gepard) ============================================ VIII. Battle of Britain terrain for the 60th and 70th
Gepard replied to Gepard's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
sea files are defined in the texture. Sea1.tga is one of this files. In the tga you have a mask (i hope this is the right translation from german into english)which is used in the game for definition of the areas of the waves (water) this is neccessary for coasts or rivers. Otherwise also the land would have waves. The other important file is the terrain_data.ini (Battle of Britain 70_data.ini. This file makes the definition of the available tiles for the terrain. In the header files you find following lines: [WaterTextureMaterial] UseEffectShader=TRUE EffectShaderName=WaterEffect.fx DepthBufferCheck=TRUE DepthBufferWrite=FALSE RenderedInOrder=TRUE AlphaTestEnabled=TRUE CullMode=CLOCKWISE LightEnabled=TRUE SpecularEnabled=TRUE EmissiveEnabled=FALSE FogEnabled=TRUE AmbientColor=1.000000,1.000000,1.000000,1.000000 DiffuseColor=1.000000,1.000000,1.000000,1.000000 SpecularColor=1.000000,1.000000,1.000000,1.000000 SpecularPower=10.000000 Reflectivity=1.00000 ZBufferOffset=2.000000 BlendOp=BLEND_SRC_ALPHA NumTextureStages=2 TextureStage[01].TextureName= TextureStage[01].MipMap=TRUE TextureStage[01].FilterEnabled=TRUE TextureStage[01].StageColorOp=TEXTURE_MODULATE_DIFFUSE TextureStage[01].StageAlphaOp=TEXTURE TextureStage[02].TextureName= TextureStage[02].MipMap=TRUE TextureStage[02].FilterEnabled=TRUE TextureStage[02].ReflectionMapping=TRUE TextureStage[02].StageColorOp=TEXTURE_BLEND_TEXTURE_ALPHA TextureStage[02].StageAlphaOp=DIFFUSE That all, what is neccessary. The reason, that the terrain runs well on low end computers is, that my computer itself is an old device. -
Nice new version.

If you can wait a little bit i will bring a small update of Afghanistan terrain in the next days. It now also covers the Kandahar area. I would have done it already at X-Mas, but my son had taken the control of my computer for a while, so the release will be next year. -

To set the Soviets to Enemy would be senseless. It would mean that the Soviets fight side by side with the Taliban. -

To relay only on jammers is deadly in reality. The Israelis learned it 1970 when they got combat proofen US Jammers for combat along the Suez Canal. The SA-3 Goa were able to penetrate the jammer. But if the planes were starting heavy maneuvres they were again able to evade the missiles. On the other side the soviets tested 1973 anti Hawk jammers in Syria with the result that MiG-21 were able to operate over the Golan without suffering losses by Hawk missiles. -

Battle of Britain terrain for the 60th and 70th
Gepard replied to Gepard's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
I found a small mistake at Lannion airfield. It must be placed 1km further west. The correct lines are [TargetArea229] Name=Lannion Aerodrome de Chase Position=319000.000000,333000.000000 Sorry. My fault. By the way, are you interessted in to see individual ports in the kind i had done in Formosa terrain? -
Battle of Britain 2010
Gepard replied to Canadair's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
I renamed the airfields by following system: 1. british coastal command airfields got Royal Navy Air Stations as example Eastchurch RAF CC became Eastchurch RNAS 2. german fighter bases became french small field runways as example Wissant Fliegerhorst became Wissant Aerodrome de champ 3. german Stukabases became french fighterbases as example Coquelles Stukahorst became Coquelles Aerodrome de Chase 4. german bomberbases became french bomberbases as example Amiens Bomberhorst became Amiens Aerodrome de Bombardier So with a simple STRG+H you could exchange this names easily. By the way, the german V1 launch stations i made to the french Radarnetwork. Here i have relocated some stations. -

I think the forest and tree mod for BoB terrain should work with BoB 70 too. I havent changed the tileset, so it should not exist problems with it. -

It is not the same terrain, it is an improved version. And of course you could use it for a modern campaign. At the moment i'm playing with the idea to make a 70the campaign with Phantoms, Mirages, Harriers etc. It is not the same terrain, it is an improved version. And of course you could use it for a modern campaign. At the moment i'm playing with the idea to make a 70the campaign with Phantoms, Mirages, Harriers etc. And by the way, i saw that i made a small typo in the readme. The filename is of course Battle of Britain 70.ini not 60.ini. Sorry
