New Forum Software - Error Reports
Gepard replied to Erik's topic in Site Support / Bug Reports / Suggestions
Have a small problem. I wanted to try out the LoFi outfit of the forum and now i find no way to reset the old HiFi style. -
In the german air magazin "Fliegerrevue" i found an interessting article by Tom Cooper who wrote that the widly known story that the Nesher was made in Israel by IAI was a fake. Cooper wrote that the Nesher was built by Dassault in France and was secretly shipped with US transport planes to Israel. American technicians reassembled the planes in Israel and then handed it over to the Heyl Ha'Avir (IAF). He also wrote, that the prove that the Nesher was made in France is the fact, that the planes have french fabrication numbers and signs (Typenschild is the german term). Fliegerrevue 7/2009 page 64 If this would be right, the often told story that the Mossad had stolen the Mirage 5 blueprints from Switzerland would be also a fake.

Its a good point. And it would be nice to confirm the statement of the remark. That a western nation like France has broken the own embargo is not really surprising for me. Politicians say often one thing and do exactly the opposite. The german example would be that officially it is not allowed to sell german weapons to middle east. In reality West Germany sold Israel the M-48 tanks which fought in 6 day war.

Hot girl. But this is no R-73 missile.

An other picture from an israeli Museum i found in the net: http://www.airliners.net/photo/Israel---Ai...1399c12c90ba151 interessting is the remark: "501 (cn 1) Despite the official story that this is an IAI Nesher, a check of the aircraft ID plates in the wheel wells reveals that this is really the first production Dassault Mirage 5J. On display in the Israel Air Force Museum."

Mig-23s currently roll and turn too fast?
Gepard replied to ordway's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
No it was intended as the soviet counterpart to the F-111 fighters. In the hands of excellent pilots the 23 had an excellent perfomance. But with normal pilots at the controll the 23 was an underperfomer. And with bad pilots it was a nightmare. The same like the Fokker DR.1 in WW1. -
Normaly the fabrication numbers are placed in the wheelbay. At the MiG-21 it is in the main gear, but also in some cases in the front wheel bay. Its only a guess, but i think at the Nesher it could be placed at the same places. I would try to look at this places and try to find out wheter there are some sort of fabrication type shields with the name of the manufacturer or the "Made in Israel" or "Made in France" or such things.

Mig-23s currently roll and turn too fast?
Gepard replied to ordway's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
The MiG-23MLD polk in the GDR (east germany) was left there in the late 80th because a lot of staff officers of the Soviet HQ in Germany were pilots and were only trained on the MiG-23. To keep their pilot licence they had to fly a certain amount of hours per year. They found simply not the time to make their staff job and at the same moment do a reschooling (hope this is the right term) on the MiG-29 or Su-27. -
To believe is one thing, to know the truth is different. And to know the truth it would be neccessary to check it out. I found following picture of the Nesher in the net: http://www.airliners.net/photo/Israel---Ai...next_id=0841989 It is taken at Hatzerim IAF museum, if i have understood it correct. But Hatzerim is some 1000 km away from my home, so i cant check it out myself. Perhaps one of our Israeli friends could do it?
-
Yeah, true argument, thatswhy the ? in the title. I think it should be possible to check it out. Perhaps a Nesher is displayed at a museum, and so it should be possible to look wheter they have type shields and production numbers which indicated that they are made by France or not. Perhaps our Mr Nesher from Holon could visit an israeli museum (isnt there one at Hazor?) and check it out. I dont know where else the Nesher bird is displayed.

New Airbases for SFP1 / WOE v. 3.0 ************************* 1: This is an update of version 2.0 to make the airfields compatible with the October 08 patch. The other rason to make a new version is that Capun requested to remove his files from this mod. Thats pity, because his static aircrafts were a nice feature of my airfields. **************************************** 2. This is the release of the 10 new airbases for WOE. The bases are: GDR (East Germany) Drewitz Holzdorf Marxwalde Preschen Trollenhagen Zerbst FRG (West Germany) Ahlhorn Büchel Hopsten Pferdsfeld All bases i made by using satellite pictures to place the groundobjects to become a look that is similar to the original airbases. *************************************** 3. INSTALLATION instruction: Be carefull! Backup of your _targets.ini and _types first! 1. Unzip all files into your Terrain/GermanyCE folder. Thats all ***************************************** 4. A word to modders In the folder "Airfields raw files" you find 10 txt files. Each file containes the lines of one airbase. So it is easier for you to copy this unique airbases for use in other terrains target_data.ini file.. ****************************************** 5. Final words. I want to say thank you to Enrico Gennari who made the runway, parking areas and taxiway files. I also want to say thank you to the unkown guy who made the basic file for the GFD-12 shelters which i have taken from EuroWW2 terrain. ***************************************************** This airbases are freeware and are not allowed for commercial use. I hope you enjoy it. Michael (Gepard) -
Poor mans aircraft were they called. Its time that this old outdated expensive and often unreliable beasts are phased out.

Has anyone modeled this yet?
Gepard replied to Gr.Viper's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Its an ekranoplane. It was designed as a very fast ship (500km/h) which can also hover over land. Armed with Sunburn ship to ship missiles is was a considerable threat to NATO surface vessels. -
Great Fun! (EF2000 vs MiG-25PDS)
Gepard replied to SFP1Ace's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
In reality the advatage of the F-15A radar range against the MiG-23ML is not as big as you think. The reason is that the RCS of the F-15 is very big in comparision with the Flogger. -

Let the F-35. Not needed expensive toy! A-10 is really needed. Save the live of lots of our soldiers in an enviroiment the F-35 would fail.

"One small step ...", perhaps the most used phrases when talking about space and astronautics. Yesterday, the german french TV station ARTE broadcasted the 40 years old original transmission of the german TV station ARD of the moon landing and moon walk of the Apollo 11 crew. I sat in front of the TV screen and waited for the famous words. BUT Armstrong climbed out of Eagle, steped down the ladder, was talking about the soil, that it looks like some kind of powder, but no "One small step ..." then he walked around, conected with some sort of string with the Lunar Module, then Aldrin came out, they planted the flag ... Later the german TV moderator said, that Armstrong had told this words, but he was'nt! Not in reality. I think he was intended to say this words, but he was so overwhelmed to stand on the moon that he simply forgot to say it.

Problem: I can't autotexture a terrain. The problem is caused by the Terrain Editor version. While the old version autotexture terrains written for SFP1 without problems it has problems with the terrains for the newer Sims like WOE or FE. The new version of TE is good for the newer terrains, but has problems with SFP1. To overcome this i have uploaded the 2 versions of TE in the download section. Use the right TE version and the trouble is over. BUT: there is an other way, for all guys who want to use the new version of TE on old terrains. Step 1: Open the desert terrain Step 2: Open file TextureListDesert Step 3: Click Texture List, click Edit Texture Type List Dialog box is opening click on Mountain new Dialog box is opening set hook on Check for Altitude close the boxes Step 4: Click Texture List, Click Save Texture List With this newly saved Texturelist you can autotexture any terrain with the new version of TE. The problem: sometimes this trick does not work on the first try. Then try it again till it runs fine.
