Sorry, my fault. You are right, it would be perfect for 1939 and 1944/45.

There i cant help you. I have never heared, that a physical map can used in TFD tool. I use maps from my old school Atlas ord historical maps from net. The placement of target areas are more or less a guess. Orientation points can be structures in the HFD file which can identified, like rivers, coastlines, mountains.
-
Do you have an idea where we can find this map? To use it would make a soviet-polish war scenario so much easier.
-
To be honest, the river is to narrow. The Weichsel/Visla is close to the Baltic a big river. But i think it is not a problem. Use the standard tile, its good enough.
-
It is the correct way to follow the height path of the river. You can fix the heigh datas if they are wrong with TDF editor. The path of the river Weichsel/Wisla/Visla/Vistula/ Ви́сла is correct for the lower reaches of the river (without the Weichseldelta). But in the area you need for a soviet polish scenario the river is not tiled. The red line show the river as you placed it on the map. The green lines are rivers, which are neccessary to be placed. The green "circle" is the position of Warsaw, the polish capital, which is indispensable. The yellow lines are rivers which would be "nice to have" but not really ne ccessary. As you see, the area, where the battle called " The miracle on the Vistula" was fought is not tiled yet.
-
I check it out. But next time it would be enough if you send the ostpreussen.hdf and the tdf file.
-
On way home you could have visited the Flugplatzmuseum Cottbus or Luftwaffenmuseum Berlin Gatow. Both have nice plane collections.
-
Here is the very early phase terrain which i had called Ostpreussen (East Prussia). It has no airfields, no populated target areas, no rivers, no roads. The tiling is rudimentary. Only 104 towns are placed as simple squares on the map. It need a lot of work to finish it. But if someone want to do the job, feel free to do it. Only one thing: Give me proper credit for the basic files and Jan Tuma for the tileset, which is included in the package. Ostpreussen.7z

I have tried to move the terrain from WOE to FE, but it allways crash to desktop. Surely it is only a minor mistake in one of the lines, which i still have to find. Basicly said. The terrain covers the area of the modern Poland, or the old german east areas Pommern, Schlesien, Ost- and Westpreussen and in the middle the old polish republic and the two southern baltic states. The big river in the mid of the terrain is the Weichsel (Wisla if you use the polish name). In the "knee" of this river Warsaw, the polish capital is situated. The outer north east bay is the Bay of Riga, Riga is the latvian capital. So the battle on the Weichsel could be part in a polish soviet scenario. The soviet attacks reached a line approx between Warsaw and Königsberg and Warsaw to Krakow. But all fights east of Brest to Kiev or Minsk are not part of the map. The status of the terrain is very early. auto placement of cities is only done for the german territory and the so called "korridor". All other things still have to done. No rivers layed, no streets, no runways, no populated target areas and so on. The red dot is the town of Memel (Kleipeda), the blue whote dot is Königsberg. Which are airfield for test reasons.

More than 10 years ago i started a Poland terrain for WOE, but i never made more than the first steps. It covers some parts of the needed area.
-
Everywhere on my hard disk i have a terrain, that covers the islands of Estonia, which was the target of the biggest amphibious operation during WW (Operation Albion)! But this is not the needed area for a polish-soviet war scenario.
-
As far as i know there is no terrain for FE, which covers that area. By the way, its a very big area with a lot of endless forrests.

When i started the project of reworking BoB terrain i simply underestimated how many rivers there are in France. Each single Rivertile has to place by hand. Oh my! -

Faroe islands 1.0 ***************************************************** This terrain is written for SF2NA. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I. Short description: North of Scotland you will find small groups of islands, the Shetlands and the Faroe. They are nothing more than tiny rocks, surrounded by the icy waters of the Atlantic Ocean. On the first view completly unimportant rocks somewhere in the nowhere. But a second view shows high economical values. The islands sitting in the middle of rich fishing grounds, and then, even more, there is oil. North Sea oil. But not enough. A powerfull nation, that is able to install a base at the Faroe, rules all the waters between Iceland and the british islands. A hostile nation might be even able to raise a blockade over Great Britain. This makes some scenarios possible: First the classical what if the Soviets would had captured the Faroe and the US Navy starts an attempt to push them out. Second, what if America sends the Marines? Third, what if Britain tries to defeat the Soviets with own power? Forth, what if Hitler-Germany would have captured the Faroe? Fifth, what if the EU raise a blockade over a Brexit UK? Sixth, what if Britain was bought by President Trump instead Greenland and John Bull stand up to fight fort the british independence? ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ II. INSTALLATION: To run this terrain you need SF2NorthAtlantic. Unzip all files into your saved game folder ...ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2NorthAtlantic /terrain folder. Thats it. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ III. Modifications Faroe islands terrain is made so, that you can play it out of the box. You will find a classic Cold war scenario US Navy vs Soviet forces. Other possible scenarios are prepared. Open the folder Goodies and you will find the folder Nation ini In this folder you find 6 subfolders, one for each scenarios i have descriped above. Choose the one you like. In this subfolders you find the file FAEROER_NATION.ini. Copy this file to the Faeroer folder and let overwrite the existing file and enjoy the other scenario. (BTW personaly i prefer Brexit scenario. Flying Hunters vs Hunters is really fun.) Faroe islands terrain is made so, that you has 2 fixed carrer stations. For the red side a station north of the Shetlands. For the blue side south of the Faroes. If you want to have multible carrier stations, than you must open the Subfolder "multible carrier stations" and copy the file FAROE_WATER.bmp to the Faroe folder. When i started to make Faroe islands terrain i used TOD files made by M.Broers for the IcelandNA HFD terrain. Later i found out, that on the Faroes no trees exist. So i decided to remove the TOD files. If you want trees and TOD buildings, the copy the tod files in the Faroe folder. But be aware, there are not all tiles fitted with tods. It looks a little bit strange. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ IV. Credits. The basic Tileset i took from M.Breors terrain IcelandNA HFD. The basic files for the emergency runways, parking areas and quais are made by ErikGen. The OilRig was made by RussoUK for my PersianGulf terrain. I hope i have not forgotten someone. . ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ V. This Terrain is Freeware. Commercial use is not allowed. And i say it again for the YAP, YankeeAirPirates file thiefs, the use of this terrain and parts of the terrain for commercial use is not allowed. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ VI. For remarks, comments, bugs, etc please use CombatAce forum or send me a PM. Hope you enjoy it. Michael (Gepard) Made in Germany 31. August 2019 -

Flogger Maneuverablility
Gepard replied to bop1701's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
The main problem with MiG-23 was, that this plane had always to flown with continous autopilot support. Without support the plane became dangerous for the own pilot very quick. This happend with MiG-23MS in Nellis. The egyptians sold only the planes, but not the documentations. So the US pilots tried to fly the MiG-23MS usually without autopilot support, which caused some crashes. The autopilot systems of the MiG-23 were improved very much during the times. The first generation autopilots were operating often to slow. This caused dangerous flight incidents. In the LSK (East German Air Force) the MiG-23BN had had such first gen autopilots. IIRC nearly all MiG-23BN which we lost, crashed because the autopilot failed. The MiG-23MF autopilot was much better but the plane was still a pure interceptor with outstanding acceleration and poor agility. The MiG-23ML had a much improved autopilot, was much lighter and stronger. While the MF was limited by 7g, the ML was limited by 8.5 g. The best agility the plane got with the "unofficial" swing wing position of 30°, not 45 as officially demanded. With this wing setting the plane was able to do a 360° turn in less than 22 seconds (or was it 23 seconds?). The MLD had a further improved autopilot and the dogtooth on fixed wing, which improved the agility even more. In 1990 the USAF recieved a gift by the german government. It were nearly all MiG-23ML of the LSK and the complete documentation. The planes were used in Nellis and afterwards the complaining about the MiG-23 stopped. MiG-23ML at Ramstein AFB shortly before handed over to the americans. -
