The TSR-2: Catastrophe, or the catalyst for change?
Gepard replied to MigBuster's topic in Military and General Aviation
In my eyes the british aircraft industry had the same problems like the british automotive industry. In a relativly short time the mass of this industries died and only some specialiced manufacturers survived, mainly in cooperation with manufacurers abroad. The TSR-2 was overambitious. It was a nice project, a nice plane, but one or two numbers to big for UK. Perhaps a "low tech" approach like France or Sweden made it, would have saved more of the british aircraft industry. -
Problem with Type 42 Sheffield
Gepard posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
I took the Sheffield from Modern Royal Navy pack and found following problem: sea skimming anti-ship missiles, like the KH-35 or the Exocet are flying through the ship without doing harm. They explode behind the ship. Has someone an idea how to solve this problem? -
Problem with Type 42 Sheffield

I found the reason for the problem. The MaxExtentPosition= and MinExtentPosition= for the shiphull were wrong. -
MiG-21Bis and Bis-B FM Mods
Gepard replied to baffmeister's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
The manual you has seems to be used in an arab country. Perhaps the arabs got other informations. On the other hand basics for the manuals for the East German Air Force (LSK) were written by german pilots during their initial flight trainings in the USSR. All infos they got, they wrote by hand in their exercise books and afterwards smuggled them into the GDR. From this handwritings the official LSK manuals were developed. Maybe the arabs were to lazy to do a handwritting job and relyed more on official soviet manuals. What i found: The R25-300 got a second fuel pipe system (Ringleitung) which feed a second afterburner fuel pump, the R13-300 and all other engines had only one afterburner fuel pump. Each pump was able to feed 11.000 liters/hour. So the R25 was able to burn the doubled amount of fuel when using the "Sonderregime". The main fuel pump of the R25 was able to feed 10.500 liters/hour. The R13 main fuel pump gave only 7.000 liters/hour. The additional fuel pump coud be the reason for the much higher thrust in Sonderregime. I forgot to mention the name of the german manual " A 101/1/111 Nutzung Betrieb und Steuertechnik MiG-21bis " -
MiG-21Bis and Bis-B FM Mods
Gepard replied to baffmeister's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
For what MiG-21bis sub version is this manual? Do you have an "isdeliye" designation found? For east german MiG-21bis (production isdeliye 75B) the given data for the engine R25-300 are 40,26 kN dry, 69,6 kN with afterburner, 97,1 kN with special regime for 3 minuts maximum at altitutes up to 4.000 meters. Maybe, that the engines for third world states like India or Syria got an little bit downgraded engine. This was common handling for the soviets in the cold war days. Edit: I looked in an other german manual and found following: The thrust of afterburner was changeable. The "Nachbrenner max" had 69,6 kN thrust, the engine sucked 67,9 kg air per second. The "Verdichtungsgrad" (perhaps pressure ratio) is between 9.1 and 9.5, the nozzle diameter is 643 +/- 3 mm The "Nachbrenner min" had 67,2 kN. the "Verdichtungsgrad" was the same 9.1 till 9.5. The nozzle diameter is 600 mm The "Sonderregime" had 97,1 kN. The "Verdichtungsgrad" is 9.6. The nozzle diameter is 643 mm. The engine suckes 68.5 kg air per second. The turbine was driven with 107% nozzle diameters for idle (33%) 643 mm nozzle diameter for nominal till dry max 550 mm nozzle diameter for BLC 570 mm R25-300 lenght with AB 4.615 mm biggest diameter 907 mm weight 1.290 kg turbine entrance temperature 1.213 till 1.313 Kelvin afterburner temperature 2.060 Kelvin BLC air consumption 2.5 kg acceleration from 33 to 99% thrust 8 to 10 seconds acceleration from 85 to 99% thrust 2.5 to 4 seconds acceleration with BLC from 50 to 99% more than 4 seconds -

IIRC i had static artillery (mortars or so) on my Afghanistan terrain for WOI in the area of Jalalabad. The mortats of both sides fired on each other. In First Eagles i made a similar thing where battleships and ground arty made fire exchanges. The objects (arty, ships, tanks) were placed as static ground objects on the map. In the Afghanistan_types.ini the objects are defined as artillery: [TargetType094] Name=RPG-7 FullName=RPG-7 TargetType=Artillery <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< This line ActiveYear=0 TargetValue=100 UseGroundObject=TRUE GroundObjectType=RPG-7 RepairRate=0.555 StartDetectChance=0 StartIdentifiedChance=0 IncreaseDetectChanceKey=0 MaxVisibleDist=8000.0 DestroyedEffect=SmallRocketGroundExplosion SecondaryEffect=VehicleFireEffect SecondaryChance=50 [TargetType095] Name=T-55 FullName=T-55 TargetType=Artillery ActiveYear=0 TargetValue=100 UseGroundObject=TRUE GroundObjectType=T-55 RepairRate=0.555 StartDetectChance=0 StartIdentifiedChance=0 IncreaseDetectChanceKey=0 MaxVisibleDist=8000.0 DestroyedEffect=SmallRocketGroundExplosion SecondaryEffect=VehicleFireEffect SecondaryChance=50 [TargetType096] Name=BTR-60 FullName=BTR-60 TargetType=Artillery ActiveYear=0 TargetValue=100 UseGroundObject=TRUE GroundObjectType=BTR-60 RepairRate=0.555 StartDetectChance=0 StartIdentifiedChance=0 IncreaseDetectChanceKey=0 MaxVisibleDist=8000.0 DestroyedEffect=SmallRocketGroundExplosion SecondaryEffect=VehicleFireEffect SecondaryChance=50 [TargetType097] Name=BTR-70 FullName=BTR-70 TargetType=Artillery ActiveYear=0 TargetValue=100 UseGroundObject=TRUE GroundObjectType=BTR-70 RepairRate=0.555 StartDetectChance=0 StartIdentifiedChance=0 IncreaseDetectChanceKey=0 MaxVisibleDist=8000.0 DestroyedEffect=SmallRocketGroundExplosion SecondaryEffect=VehicleFireEffect SecondaryChance=50 [TargetType098] Name=M113 FullName=M-113 TargetType=Artillery ActiveYear=2001 TargetValue=100 UseGroundObject=TRUE GroundObjectType=M113 RepairRate=0.555 StartDetectChance=0 StartIdentifiedChance=0 IncreaseDetectChanceKey=0 MaxVisibleDist=8000.0 DestroyedEffect=SmallRocketGroundExplosion SecondaryEffect=VehicleFireEffect SecondaryChance=50 [TargetType099] Name=Taliban FullName=Taliban TargetType=Artillery ActiveYear=0 TargetValue=100 UseGroundObject=TRUE GroundObjectType=Taliban RepairRate=0.555 StartDetectChance=0 StartIdentifiedChance=0 IncreaseDetectChanceKey=0 MaxVisibleDist=8000.0 DestroyedEffect=SmallRocketGroundExplosion SecondaryEffect=VehicleFireEffect SecondaryChance=50 [TargetType100] Name=Granatwerfer FullName=recoilless gun TargetType=Artillery ActiveYear=0 TargetValue=100 UseGroundObject=TRUE GroundObjectType=Granatwerfer RepairRate=0.555 StartDetectChance=0 StartIdentifiedChance=0 IncreaseDetectChanceKey=0 MaxVisibleDist=8000.0 DestroyedEffect=SmallRocketGroundExplosion SecondaryEffect=VehicleFireEffect SecondaryChance=50 [TargetType101] Name=M3A1 FullName=Bradley TargetType=Artillery ActiveYear=0 TargetValue=100 UseGroundObject=TRUE GroundObjectType=M3A1 RepairRate=0.555 StartDetectChance=0 StartIdentifiedChance=0 IncreaseDetectChanceKey=0 MaxVisibleDist=8000.0 DestroyedEffect=SmallRocketGroundExplosion SecondaryEffect=VehicleFireEffect SecondaryChance=50 But this was made for a first generation sim like WOE or WOI. Fuel is in what unit??
Gepard replied to Wrench's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
In the plane_data.ini the data are always metric and in kilogram. For recalculation use this values: 1 litre AvGas=0.72 kg 1 litre JP-4 jet fuel = 0.82 kg -
Chemical weapons in SF2

The use of chemical weapons is a war crime. It is a violation of the Convention of Geneva. -
I think the most of you will have heared something about the Fridays-for-Future movement and their master figure Greta T., which has a growing influence here in Germany and in Europe, as we have seen in the last elections for the European Parliament. The FFF movement declares, that it is an independent movement with the only aim to save the climate. But is this true? Follow the money, is an good advice. I have done it for the german FFF. What i found was: Donations for FFF have to give on a bank account which is owned by the Plant-for-Planet-Foundation. (https://fridaysforfuture.de/spenden/ The headmaster of the Plant-for-Planet Foundation is Frithjof Finkbeiner (https://www.plant-for-the-planet.org/de/footermenu/impressum Frithjof Finkenbeiner is member of the Club-of-Rome https://www.clubofrome.org/member/frithjof-finkbeiner/ One short look into Wiki: " the Club of Rome consists of current and former heads of state, UN bureaucrats, high-level politicians and government officials, diplomats, scientists, economists, and business leaders from around the globe "; with other words it is a thinktank, which makes money with predicting the end of the world. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Club_of_Rome And this is a screenshot of the homepage of the Club-of-Rome today: I think independence looks different. Its a simple rule i have learned. If you want to rule over people, make them afraid of the apocalypse.

Baloon busting
Gepard replied to Wilches's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Recon balloons were rare. Propaganda ballooning was a common thing in the 50th and 60th. The balloons should drop leaflets, but mostly failed. For interception Yak-11 planes were used. -

Are you so sure, that i dont speak russian? Do you think i cant read and write cyrillic? Do you really believe i dont understand what is written in russian? Really? Of course you are better in this. You are from Kiev. And the ukrainian language is nothing else than an old russian dialect with some latin letters in it. But i have learned russian in scholl and during my studyies. My russian is good enough. Fact! If you run out of arguments you starts to become offensive.! Its ukrainian style. Its ukrainian behaviour, as we can see in your parliament. You started to mix thinks together which have nothing in common without one point, they are strenghen your feeling of supperiority over the russians. In your eyes the russians are stupid, unable, unskilled, incompetent etc.pp. But if they are, why they are still sitting on the Crimean Peninsula? Could it be, that the western financed community in the Ukraine is exactly that what you believe the russians are? If you are unable to argue with persons which have other opinions or views, then you will never find a place in the EU. Because arguing is part of democracy.

If you read the report correctly, then the answer is "No". In the report you find the line: было произведено поражение самолета МиГ-31 с борта другого истребителя того же полка. what means translated ino english: the MiG-31 aircraft was destroyed from the side of another fighter of the same regiment. Same regiment (squadron) does not mean wingman. I think there were multiple flights or pairs of MiG-31 in the area on different flight pathes (vectors). Only under that conditions a plane can be hit "from the side".

I wrote in my last post: The WCS does not allow to fire a weapon to a "own" plane. The pilot can override the WCS only by active handling. Exactly this is descriped in the russian article. The WCS blocked the firing of the missile. The ground controller gave the order to attack. The plane crew refused the order and asked for repeat. The ground controller gave the order again. Then the plane crew override the safety mechanism of WCS and opened the fire. It was the fault of the ground controller. This is a typical case of "shit happens". During my military time i shot on an own T-55AM2 with a RPG-18, because the tank wanted to drove a shortcut. And this shortcut was exactly though our RPG shooting range. We usually shot on old tanks which were mounted of railway tracks, what looked very realistic. When the tank appeared the "Aufführende", the second guy, gave the order to shoot. I fired, hit the tank on turret, but luckily the addon armour was thick enough to protect the crew. Its typical military "shit hapens".
