  1. Hi All. First time posting in this forum. I discovered Strike Fighters 2 over a week ago. This is the kind of game I was looking for. I had a love for Strike Commander and F-15 Strike Eagle of eons ago. Anyway enough of introductions. I have a problem. I downloaded Operation Desert Storm for SF2 from the files SF2_ODS_Part1-3. I am able to play the mod except that when I try to land on the carrier decks (any one) the deck is not hardened so the aircraft sinks through the ship and crashes into the ocean. The cats work fine at the start of the mission but the landing is the problem. I have read other posts about this issue but I hate how posts get hijacked (as in the posts goes off on a tangent on how to install the upgrade etc) or people give vague responses such as "seems like a carrier without LODs." Like what on earth does that mean. So can someone in the know please tell me what causes an aircraft carrier's deck to be sink through and not the cats? Also what needs to be done to fix this? I installed the update SF2E_ODS_Update1 but that did not solve the problem. I tried to copy carriers from other mods that had no problems, still same issue. So yes, a clear answer as to what would cause this would be appreciated so I can understand the innards of the game better. Thank you.
  2. File Name: Essex class (long-hull) aircraft carrier File Submitter: WhiteBoySamurai File Submitted: 27 September 2015 File Category: Aircraft Carriers This model represents the long-hull straight-deck Essex class aircraft carriers, beginning with CV-14 USS Ticonderoga circa 1944. These ships were about 5 meters longer than the original CV-9 Essex, and featured heavier anti-aircraft armament. Two versions of the ship are included: The original WW2 configuration, and the jet-capable Korean War era modernization. Decals for each unit are included. Random aircraft parking has been designed for currently available models with folding wings. In addition to its complement of aircraft, each ship is armed with a battery of twin 5" guns and single 5" guns, plus a vast number of 40mm Bofors and 20mm Oerlikon anti-aircraft guns. Please see the readme for full details and credits. Because this is a very high-poly, high-definition model, instructions are also included to improve framerate for those of us without premium supercomputers. This model is dedicated to Wrench, who requested it, and who provides us with great playgrounds for all our toys. Click here to download this file

  6. File Name: Jeanne d'Arc helicopter carrier File Submitter: WhiteBoySamurai File Submitted: 22 February 2015 File Category: Cruisers This model represents the Jeanne d'Arc helicopter cruiser of the French Navy, in service from 1964 to 2010. The only ship of her class, "La Jeanne" was primarily used as a training ship in peacetime, but could serve as a fully capable helicopter carrier in times of crisis. Three different versions are included, covering each major refit of her long service life. Exocet missile launchers were added in 1975, while the aft guns were removed and some electronics were replaced in 2000. The Jeanne d'Arc's large flight deck can handle the simultaneous launch of up to four helicopters. Nighttime deck lights and fake arresting wires are in place for your convenience. Note: This model's role is designated as an aircraft carrier by default. You may change this by setting WarshipClass=CRUISER or WarshipClass=TRANSPORT depending on your preference. 8. File Name: MiG-21K carrierborn fighter family File Submitter: Gepard File Submitted: 30 August 2014 File Category: What If Hangar MiG-21K, KS, KST and Kbis Soviet Navy carrierborne fighters (What if) v1.0 ************************************************************* This mod is made for SF2NA. ---------------------------------------------------------- I. History In 1946 the UK had a lot of major problems. It suffered high losses during WW2 and war damages all over the country were significant. The industry layed down and a big amount of war depts pressed the economy further. On the other hand the Royal Navy had a lot of ships which were not neccessary anymore. So it was decided to sell some major ships, including aircraft carriers. The HMS Colossus was sold to France, the HMS Warrior went to Canada. The Netherlands wanted to buy the HMS Venerable and Australia was interessted in the HMS Venegance. 1946 the Soviet Union showed their wish to buy 3 carriers of the Colossus class and offered a price of 50tons of fine gold. So the last 3 carriers of the Colossus class, the Theseus, Triumph and Perseus were handed over to the Soviet Sea War Fleet and were named as TAKR Odessa, TAKR Kronstadt and TAKR Sewastopol. Odessa and Kronstadt were operated by the Northern Fleet, while the Sewastopol served in the Baltic fleet for 6 years. In 1952 all carriers were sent back to Navy wharfs to refit them with an angle deck. The blueprints of this innovative design was stolen by the Cambridge Five espionage group. In 1955 the Odessa became operational again. The Kronstadt followed one year later and the Sewastopol reentered the service in 1957. All 3 carriers were used till mid/end 70th. After refit with angle deck the MiG-17 became the core of the Odessa flight group. But in 1961, the Soviet Navy demanded a supersonic interceptor with Mach 2 capabilities. The OKB MiG decided to modify their newest plane, the MiG-21PF, to fit the requirements of carrier operations. The MiG-21K was born. The K got a strenghtend landing gear, an arrestor hook and carriertypical avionics. The most obviesly difference was the introduction of canards and an inflight refuel probe. So it was possible to increase the former much to short range of the plane. The K got the new engine R-13-300 which was originally intended for the next MiG-21 generation. After nearly one decade of carrier operations a new updated version was needed. It came in 1968 and got the designation MiG-21KS. The KS got the RP-22 radar which increased the detection range by 50% and made new weapons possible. So the R-60 and R-3R were introduced and the air to ground missile Kh-23. The number of weapon stations was doubled. Now were 4 wingpylons available. The new stronger R-13F2-300 engine gave the KS a better handling. As nuclear strike plane the MiG-21KST was developed. KST stands for korableniy, safir, toplivo what means carrierborn, saphire radar RP-22, additionally fuel. It got the big back tank of the MiG-21SMT and was prepared to carry nuclear bombs under the wings. It entered the service in 1973. 1975 the last version MiG-21Kbis came to the squadrons. The external shape was similar to the precessor MiG-21KS, but under the skin the Kbis was a new plane. The structure was mainly build by titanium what made the plane light and strong. The new R-25-300K engine gave more thrust and less fuel consumtion. The RP-22KM radarsystem was able to operate the new medium range air to air missiles of the R-23 and R-24 family over a distance up to 40km. All MiG-21K versions had had no internal gun, but where ably to carry the GP-9 gunpod under the central fuselage station. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- II. In 1952 all carriers were sent back to Navy wharfs to refit them with an angle deck. the blueprints of this innovative design was stolen by the Cambridge Five. In 1955 the Odessa became operational again The Kronstadt followed one year later and the Sewastopol reentered the service in 1957. All 3 carriers were used till mid 70th. After refit with angle deck the MiG-17 became the core of the Odessa flight group. The MiG-17K was developed from the MiG-17F and was used for daylight operations and in the air to ground role. For bad weather and night operations the MiG-17KP was developed from the MiG-17PF. In 1967 both types were updated to carry the AA-2 Atoll (R-3S) missile. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- II. 19. File Name: TSF Saab JAS 39 Sea Gripen-C Package. File Submitter: JonathanRL File Submitted: 02 January 2014 File Category: What If Hangar Installation: Unzip the entire package into your mod folder, usually Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 or similar. Information: The Sea Gripen is Saabs take on a Carrier Borne Fighter, based off their Saab Gripen NG Project. It was however some ideas that the C version also would be an ideal platform for navies with smaller Carriers as a gap-filler until the Gripen NG entered the market. The idea has since been scrapped. However, this is the What-If Section and since we like Saab does not have a Gripen NG (E/F) available, we made one off the Gripen-C instead. Good Gripen-C Templates are included and free for use. This package contains one Aircraft with five skins, correct serials, nation-specific loadouts and correct weapons. Saab Demonstrator: Two made, modified from Swedish Air Force Gripen-Cs. Initally built as a proof-of-concept but then transferred for demonstrations and practical trials. First naval operation trials was made on the USS George H.W Bush during 2012. Alongside the many details in the contract, Saab retained the right to the US Navy Digital Camo for use upon the airframe. Official demonstrations of these Aircraft is said to have been boosted by Saabs decision to give out free copies of The Scandinavian Front during air shows. Swedish Air Force: The Swedish Air Force, in a frenzy to find new budget cuts for their Armed Forces decided to refit a Wing of Fighters from the Gripen-C to the Sea Gripen-C instead of upgrading them to the Gripen NG. The wing was then activated in 2014 as part of the Swedish Air Force Rapid Reaction Force where Carrier Landings in NATO Operations may be a requirement. The wing is based at F 21 Luleå and have access to the USS Queen Elizabeth for Carrier Training for their pilots. Brazilian Naval Avitation: The Brazilian Navy was the first nation to adopt the Aircraft for their navy, making the development of the Aircraft a requirement for the later approval of the Gripen NG Contract. VF-1 recived the Aircraft and begun training in 2014 and declared themselves operation for duty on the A 12 Sao Paulo in early 2016, making a flyover at the Olympic Games. Brazil has scored most kills with their Gripens, shooting down dozens of Drug Smuggling Aircraft and boats every month. Indian Fleet Air Arm: Following the defence paper of 2011, the carrier INS Viraat was to be decomissioned in 2020. However, without the Sea Harriers, she had been reduced to a Helicopter Carrier. Doubting both the Gripen NGs and the Rafaeles capacity to land upon her decks, the Sea Gripen-C was tested and subsequently bought 20 aircraft with a requirement for a quick delivery. The Indian Navy has expressed interest to retain the INS Viraat for a longer period of time, satisfied with the combination. Royal Navy: Following the near-crash-and-recovery of the F-35 Project saw the Royal Navy reducing the ammount of Aircraft to equip their Queen Elizabeth Class Carriers with. In order to retain maximum value for the Carriers built, the F-35B entered a Fleet Defence and offensive air combat role with the Gripen-C with both low purchase and operating costs deemed the best alternative. The 801th Naval Air Squadron with battle honours from world war II, Korea and the Falklands was reactivated to fly the aircraft, putting them in the front line for Britannic Security Policy once again. The Royal Navy is pleased with the Aircraft and has expressed interest to upgrade to the Gripen NG in the 2020s. Credits: Gripen-C 3D Model by Gux, updated by CadetteBra.
