Damn! my add-on cd cant be read
jaeger_301 replied to dsawan's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
in case everything else fails, use a LIVE CD to save your data what you need: PC with 2 DVD/CD drives and alternate: external Harddisk download Knoppix here: http://www.knoppix.net/ burn the CD and set in the Bios that the OS starts from the CD. After Booting, put the file DVD into the 2nd Drive and open with the filemanager, copy the files to your HDD. It works well with NTFS, when you have Vista use the external drive, alternative you can copy the DVD with the burnprogram K4B. In case you have just one DVD drive, you can load the OS into the RAM , you need sufficent RAM - 1GB or more - and select boot to RAM in the start screen. Be aware that Linux has a differend names for the Disk like sda1 instead of drive C. good luck Jaeger -
Tactics for Reco mission
jaeger_301 replied to Cliff7600's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
its not that hard from the tactics but the actual performing can be ;) 1) go undetected in - 2) perform your task - 3) go as fast as possible out well, the enviromend can make the mission from challenging to impossible - here comes it do "know your enemy", i wouldn t recommend a recce mission in an area with an active SA 10. recce missions are the most dangerous. lets see what works: use terrain masking as long as possible, get an escort, lets go a sweep flight ahead of you go into the target area. learn and adapt, also consider that some planes have been removed from recce duty because they couldn t survive ( F101, U2) or the ROE has been changed. know your enemy is the key to success, what in WOV works - low and fast, must not work with WOE or Falcon4 in a 1990/2000 scenario: - in an area with SA15 its safer to fly over the target area at 10 000 feet or more. cheers Jaeger -
F-14A typical loadout in air-air combat?
jaeger_301 replied to Erwin_Hans's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
besides weight restrictions the decision what missiles where loaded depended on the XO. an important fact is also that the AIM 54 carried in the "pancake" (the area between the engines) disrubded the lift significantly what caused a severe penalty for dogfights. based on this the ROE and expected enemy came in the quotation too - like vis identifikation and others. during the lybian engagements one squadron went up with AIM7 AIM9 weapons only while another selected 2 AIM54. the AIM54 scored very well with the iranian against the iraqi fighters even with the 17g limit, the main reason for this success was that the iraqi RWR (when installed) gear couldn t detect the F14 radar. later in the war Mirage F1 with up to date RWR and Jammers could threaden the F14 (the iranians did not get the radar with all the capabilitys of the USN). Flak in WoV
jaeger_301 replied to SandyC's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hello James, i have made exact the same observation about the heavy flak. the main reasons why i think the heavy AAA is so ineffective is that there aren t enough guns, the available guns aren t placed in large groups. a possible fix for these probs would be to place more guns on the map or to increase the rate of fire dramticaly. another "feature" of the highly trained VC gunners was the flak trap where all guns fired in the predicted flightpath on command and with radar guidance. this was/is a highly succesful tactic. in "100 missions north" from Ken Bell is the Viet Tri mission described where a flight of 4 lost 2 planes due flak and 1 thud god damaged by a mig. cheers Jaeger -
New Mission Packs for Vietnam.
jaeger_301 replied to 331Killerbee's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
thank you very much for your initiative Killerbee. realistic missionsets are one of the best features in WOV and give us a good immersion through what the pilots then went through. cheers Jaeger
