A quick and dirty fix is go to graphics options and reduce your ground objects setting. A better solution is to find a topic in SF2 forums about a software fix. Unfortunately, I don't remember where it is located - I'm 70 yo and can't remember shit.

LloydNB wants to make an Italian East Africa mod - most of the aircraft he needs are the same aircraft I need for my 1940 desert war concept. Would it be a huge PITA to make an FE2 version of your Eritrea/Ethiopia map?

Sounds tasty. Thanks.

Improved Gameworld Appearance

I occasionally tinker with lighting and textures to make the TW gameworld look more realistic. This small pack was developed to improve Gterl's WW1 Italy game map, but should also work with most any other SF or FE game map. Most of the changes are located in the FLIGHT folder, whose contents are largely the work of Quack74. All I did was alter the light levels to better simulate "high noon" - the standard game settings are too dark and murky for bright sunshine. I also lightened and dulled Jan Tuma's tree art so forests don't look like dark green blobs. The new art files Stromy, Stromy2, Stromy3, and TEROBJECT_TREE S1 replace the equivalents in the WW1 Italy folder. Finally, the increased light levels can make some aircraft appear too shiny. A sample texture set ini file is included with reduced glossyness settings - see first shot of Sea Gladiator (facing away from camera). 0.000 equals no gloss whatsoever. Specular=0.200 Glossiness=0.200 Reflection=0.100 -
Stephen1918 helped me solve a problem that was delaying progress on the Gladiator. Work is underway again and some, maybe all three, Gladiators should be ready around Christmas. Shots below of Glads and CR42s...and Hurricane MK1. EDIT: None of what you see below would be possible without the sterling efforts of Baffmeister and LloydNB.

Once again, Stephen1918 has helped this old Geezer solve some problems! Thanks Steve. WIP cockpit for MK1 (with ring sight) flying ingame.

I'm on the home stretch for the WW1 ground objects, and will then complete the Halberstadt D.V. So...in a few months I will resume work on 1930s stuff for FE2. Rummaging around in my old backups, I also found A LOT of 1930s China war stuff - see shots below. Both the China air war of 1937-1938 and the desert air war of 1940 had a lot in common - they were the last glory days of the biplane. Lots of romantic high adventure, featuring open cockpits, white scarves, and wheel spats! Also, both air wars were partial throwbacks to WW1 in terms of equipment, operational altitude, and tactics - perfect for FE2. Additionally, the China air war was fought in a temperate climate so many of the already existing FE2 hi-res game environments can be modified for mod use, rather than creating the new hi-res desert environment needed for the 1940 desert air war. Which would you guys prefer?

I'm gonna take you up on your offer to help with FMs or skins! If you like, you can DL Wrench's old Hawk3 from the SF1 section and familiarize yourself with it. I'll start mapping my new one, and eventually get it to you. Once we get our process shaken down and working, we can do some Japanese stuff.

The new tga files - Stromy, Stromy2, Stromy3, and TEROBJECT_TREE S1 - overfile the equivalents in the WW1 Italy terrain folder. They can also drop into other terrain maps that use Jan Tuma's tree files. -
LloydNB just sent me some WIP skins for the Sea Gladiator and they are outstanding!

Thanks. Back in 2000, I started modding by making skins, but grew dissatisfied because the mapping of many 3D models made it well-nigh impossible to skin them properly. This is not meant to slam 3D modelers. They don't always know what is required because they think in terms of 3D shapes, not the finished result. So, I spent many years teaching myself to make 3D models....
