X-02 Decals
daddyairplanes replied to crisisloaner's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
First: my apologies, yesterday was at the beginning of the cup of coffee, and i missed the decal ini posted. most still applies, the first two lines were me being a non attentive dick. second, that fileformat line in yours is calling a generic tga from the stock game. it would look for the nation and apply it, but being a fictional aircraft the game doesnt have its nation. you will need to create a decal folder (aircraft, with skin subfolder, such as X-02\newSkin\some decal) then place the desired decal in the folder and call it in the ini. what i stated about hte 707 yesterday still applies, the line in the decal ini has to match what folders its in or the game will look in the wrong spot (or not at all) -
X-02 Decals
daddyairplanes replied to crisisloaner's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
(shake head, breathe) what i need to help is this [Decal001] MeshName=Fuselage DecalLevel=2 DecalFacing=LEFT FilenameFormat=KC-135R\ODS\D\fuseL Position=0.0,0.00 Rotation=0.0 Scale=35.00 DecalMaxLOD=4 the bold highlighted part is what you are looking for in the LOD viewer. it is what you are putting the decal on the italic underlined part is where it goes, the LOD viewer will get you in the general location with the coordinates it displays. from there you will have to dance the numbers around more. a finally beggining thing to look at is if the filenameformat is correct (in blue above). when doing something for the falklands folks, i used their markings (mostly) on top of mine. in doing this i forgot the rename the first folder from B707 (theirs) to 707(mine). it did not show up until i edited the decal.ini to look in the right folder. show me an ini (located in the skin folder you are working with, as decal.ini) and i can help you further. the pics really arent too useful at this stage other than to grumble over while having morning coffee. final piece of advice: if there is an original decal in the area of where you are placing yours, change the values on that entry to match what you are doing! -

please post an example of your decal ini. right now your just telling the mechanic over the phone that the car makes a noise, the mechanic needs to see the car to figure out the issue. and so it is for ini's as well. -
Iron Eagle - have we finally covered everything?
daddyairplanes replied to MigBuster's topic in The Pub
i will say one good thing for the whole series: real aircraft vs CGI! that said, yes one does need to turn the reality chip off before viewing. 2 F-14A vs 2 Mitsubishi A6Ms, complete with all markings actually seems abit more realistic at times in comparison- 6 replies

ok, if youre willing to use Gimp and make your own skins or tga, you should have enough 1940s stuff here to keep you occupied for a while, either in downloads or reskinnng a plane for a different theater/unit/era etc. double that activity if you tackle campaigns or even just terrains. WW2 is actually not my usual gig, but the beauty of SF series is the wide span that it covers you dont have to be Michaleangelo to use Gimp, just be willing to try things out about 20 times before asking a million questions. i myself prefer to work with ready to go logo on the various projects i do, but can create from scratch in a pinch. i just approach it a bit more logically (shapes and angles and mirroring ) than creatively other than that enjoy, and by the mention of playing SF2 again, welcome back -

we shall spend hours scratch making graphics for obscure airlines from the 1980s, with complex curves across several different scaled tga. yes, this is how we will have fun but it is cool to seem em out on the apron like this -

there are whole hog packs at DAT site, but you must have all prerequisites filled to download from them, and even then only download once or twice a day, 1/4 that on days that have d or y in them (yeah they dont have the greatest rep, check my signature). for here, pretty much go the franken mod route although there are less restrictions on acquisition/usage. Not everything is available at either site, so there will be some holes in what you seek unfortuneatly -

if you want arcade version, knock yourself silly. after all, a long time ago someone modded Snoopy on his doghouse ready to take on the Red Baron. however, at least the active folks in these forums prefer historical and technical accuracy. Pfunk and Nyghtfall bring up excellent points on the technical aspect, while historically (prior to Mar 2018) it wouldnt have been done due to wiring, vibration and cost issues IRL but there does seem to be a group out there that prefers arcade over simulation (they may enjoy it) , and your copy of the game is yours to mod as you desire. just understand the more negative viewpoints come from a group that prefers simulation (representative as close to real life/history) over arcade and yes we tend to be the more active in forums. finally yes, posting the adjusted file will help get practical advice rather than opinions (some in the accuracy crowd might enjoy the mental challenge of tweaking an existing file, but not doing it from an idea and scratch) just a couple pennies on the matter -

just caught this message, will check it against pics from above later, currently going nuts trying to line up a curve on a Fuerza Aerea Argentina 707 for someone. big difference IIRC between the Forrestals and Kitty Hawks (which were originally billed as improved Forrestals) was placement of elevators. every carrier in a class is a little different as improvements on the last one are incorporated, but nothing as big as putting the elevators in a different position! -

Help with silly question
daddyairplanes replied to umm's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
there is a squadron list in the core files. some mods (including my older ones) have them to add new units. there are many of them out there floating about personally i think mine are the best (and not just because I made them!) because i discovered you can leave entries blank, and add in units all the way up to 2999 (possibly higher, haven't tested higher than taht tho). stock has around 214(?) units. myself and Homefries added probably about 500 more units to that, and the newest versions have blank groups of slots waiting for anything from WW2 units (hmmm hey Wrench) to Ace Combat squadrons. if you use mine, just run it by me so i can update it. but with my current projects it hasnt been needed. if a mod requires it, it should have it ready to go. if its not in one already, it goes in the PilotData folder of the overall mod folder. if a mod doesn't require it, don't worry about it -
Help with silly question
daddyairplanes replied to umm's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
almost. as i am sure is covered in the knowledge base... object folders (the aircraft, decals, weapons, pilots) will go into the above plus\Objects. this should make it appear in game. they will not show up if outside the objects folder better functionality will occur for the things like effects, sounds etc will go in their respective folders (FLight, Terrains, Sounds etc) these folders go into the overall mod folder (the file path you wrote above) most modders i have observed the last few years set things up so that you unzip the file (you did remember to do that right?) then open the folder and drop everything into the overall mod folder. example: my recently released JSTARS had objects folder, wtih the aircraft and decals inside. it also had a sound folder, with the proper sounds . After unzipping all could be dropped in as you asked because the aircraft was already in a objects folder HOWEVER, you have to pay attention esp to some of hte older mods. not everyone does what i described. so if the things are not already in a objects folder and hanging out loose in the overall mod folder, it will not show. hopefully the level of specificity you were needing to get it to work. Question for you: is there a specific mod that is giving you a fit or is it all mods? -

daddyairplanes replied to OncomingStorm1984's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
ok, i gotta ask: why? iirc, there was talk of putting a non afterburning F404 in some Scooters for the Adversary roles, and it would have taken them a little past M1 because of thrust to weight ratio. but IRL intakes are not set up for much past that, and it would run out of gas right about the time it hit top speed, or would hit that speed with enough gas bags to fly awhile the data could be edited, but as one of the historical purists here, Ed Heinemann didnt make a naval ME163. -

sorry all, thought i had uploaded this already. will be about two weeks (actual not modder speak) til i get ground vehicles and SAMs out there, RL is keeping me hopping as well as trying to get a project wrapped that was already in progress when i started this post. those in the PM, will pass actual game files there, reference info like these spreadsheets out in the clear as below here is the ships that are in mod/available here (or at DAT grrr)/ not available. generated the list of participants first, then if they were represented in game or not ODS ships.xlsx many types, esp support and amphibs missing, and this doesnt go through the mega installs already out there, only ODS so far. big loss is the Forrestals; while the Kitty Hawks are upgraded Forrestals they also are laid out different, so not as good to just say "hey its CV-60!" but if a non-DAT Forrestal isnt in the works anywhere, thats what may have to happen -
