start of another WIP BTW, anyone got a good template for the TMF Corsairs? -
on the Su-any brand.... any nation that can afford them these days likely has something to lose and is not likely to get involved in a shooting war with the US. the Soviet Union gave planes away. Russia does not, you have to pay hard cash for em. also note i said not likely, did not say wont ever happen. on the Raptor.... if allowed to fight in its medium it will obliterate the opposition not in a dogfight but long before the other guy visually see the Raptor or even likely knows he's there. HOWEVER.... we have built so few of them that my worry is not how good is the other guys planes. my worry is what if the other guys sends 60 Mig-21 and even say Mig-15 up against 8 Raptors? 8 missiles per, figure a realistic 90% kil rate on fired missiles that means there are 2 survivors. thats when the OPFOR sends up their Mig29 or Su-27 variants. Yes if allowed to fight in its element and fashion the Raptor will dominate. but it is very beatable just not in the way you guys have been discussing.

A Phantom scheme used in Vietnam or not?
daddyairplanes replied to Stratos's topic in Military and General Aviation
Check out my N pack. Have that skin (set for later in the 70s but no difference other that the NF on the wing). Plus my markings are tgas rather than on the skin so hould be no prob to transfer to the B's or the J. Lemme know if you want B orJ serials to go with. Will be doing that for the J but much further out -

damn! i was just thinking of something like that the other day, although for Dhimar not the USAF. -
Goto the USO or there should still be a book shelf in the mwr center or phone center. Always something there if you expand the search parameters and msny of my favorites were first read across the water.

F-4C Phantom Torrejon AB (Spain) is possible?
daddyairplanes replied to timetraveler71's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
look up my stock F-4 decal set in the Gen2 download section. the tailcode is available and i am working on getting all squadron and wing badges for the USAF, AFRES and ANG set up as tgas as we speak, tho that will be another "two weeks". but tails will be accurate so long as you also install my squadronlist.ini, included in the pack. link is below http://combatace.com/files/file/13545-stock-f-4-phantom-2-usafcamo1-decalpack-and-ini-tweek/ -
Why isn't Sparrow missile 'certified' for F-4E Terminator ?
daddyairplanes replied to Boresight's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Most likely, money. Upgrading to use Amraam costs (tho it is possible, Germans and i think Greeks did that), and sparrow is an old system. Would prob cost just as must to make sure the missles work and staying pointed at your enemy waiting for the round to impact is not good for a fighter pilots health in the 21st century... -
Is There a F-105B...

Is There a F-105B...
daddyairplanes replied to daddyairplanes's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Yup. Got similar for the F-4N, from the age of hyper colorful tails. Just a matter of dancing the image around the tga, as the ini is fairly set. Wont be tommorow, but only three eras, 8 units and the main differnce in two of the eras is whether the ANG logo is circular or the modern one. Shouldnt be to hard at all to throw that in the mix, so long as i find a good set of images to work with.... -

WOW this took of while i was offline! the main thing that could be done to the stock D is remove the fairing on the tail and avionics tweeks. but as was said the nose is totally different. i'm workin on a decal pack for ANG Thuds, and the 119th TFS, 141st TFS (both New Jersey ANG) as well as the 466th TFS used the B, two of them going into 1981 before retiring them! doin the decals for the D and the F, but B would have been nice too if it was avail. bcyc, might decal that for the D. that way its ready to go for the B if and when it comes....... -
"Little" Kitten for the Marines
daddyairplanes replied to ValAstur's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Sci-Fi/Anime/What If Forum
now you will really be the man if you can make that in the camo the Marines used towards the mid to late 80's. that looks sharp tho and is a almost was rather than what if! -

daddyairplanes replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Screen Shots
you know, i don't think TK realized the Thud served well into the 70's even with stock units like the 127th TFS, Kansas ANG and btw, does anyone know what the ribbon displayed on many ANG unit birds is called? i think its AFOUA but am looking at the AF veteran pool in here for some correct guidance -
they just released the route Crazyhorse, here another reason for you to laugh. to all our Marines onsite, why the obsession?

The Thud Lives On
daddyairplanes replied to bcyc's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Sci-Fi/Anime/What If Forum
looks good both! given how the Phantoms were maintained i would make the Vermont birds look abit more worn out, but the Wyoming birds are sharp! my historical two cents.... the Thuds were retired because of being worn out over North Vietnam. any upgrades would have had to included refurbishing the airframe to add more hours and this likely would have cost as much per two Thuds as one new Falcon. sounds like a bargain except that again the Thuds were pretty used up and even a refurb would have been less capable, as well as only around 200 or so left max. (half the production of ALL Thuds was lost in SEA, the rest were maxing airframe life by the 80's) final note, the inside was pretty maxed out with little space. a new radar could have surely been put in, but much of the other equpment would have needed to been scabbed onto teh outside somewhere, like the hump on the T-Stick birds. not trying to sound too critical, it is an awesome idea and great skins. i'm a big alternate history nut and believe very firmly in the part about make the most minor changes. -
Only gone through 20 sets of ACU pants and 8 tops since the wearout date on the BDUs. Multicam is ok, very fugly but at least the pant dont rip out in the crotch at the slightest attempt to bend or climb

F-105D_66 meshname
daddyairplanes posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Whats teh meshname for the front half of the fuselage? Tried sticking a squadron tga on there roughly below the canopy but it doesn't show using fuselage_p. I know its not filepath or level issue. For a test swapped location with that for the insignia and saw a confederate flag in place of the usual star and bar! Thank you in advance for any help you can give. -

VERY colorful! need that decal ini from ya for some placement locales. thinking on some USAFE and or Dhimari Gooney Birds down the road here. -
i'm amassing quite a collection of Phantom pics working on the N and now the S Phantoms skins. thought i might share some with you all you guys might recognize this if you downloaded the N skinpack and some early S's. the first 43 were delivered sans slats. upgraded later they often refered to as Super J's. the slimers is the thing to look for in this: no slimer its a J. slimers its a S with VMFA-451 or 232 in 79-80. i think VMFA-333 as well, still researching that one. thats all for today......

Navy/USMC Phantom pics
daddyairplanes replied to daddyairplanes's topic in Military and General Aviation
some to close out the week...... did you know someone had the bright idea that white letters would be less conspicuous than black? dont know which is cooler in this photo. i do know the placement of the tail slimer on the TMF S made that a b*&ch to decal. ramp ride anyone? and here's to the thread about Sparrows on the inner pylons. the antennea down the length of the missle body makes me think its not a Shrike...
