so it seems that the Dhimari desert isn't too kind to a paint job low level over the Gulf isn't helping either and corrosion control folks just don't quite seem to be getting it right. ole sarge is getting on them tho. .. -

Strike Fighters Attack
daddyairplanes replied to MigBuster's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
good luck with it. IMHO Attack is the hardest of the three and the biggest PITA. the birds are much less responsive than the fighter versions (esp near the ground) and it seeeeems that a 5 truck convoy is defended better than Hanoi 72 or Bagdad 91. finally unlike the other two, when you fly an older aircraft later on, the threat stays modern (P-51 vs Zues23). that said it is cool to fly the Hog on my tablet, but at 50 pts a kill to the fighters 100 pts it takes much longer to rack up and level up. that from a guy who got the Raptor in the original Android by playing to level 76!! not a complete waste of time, but not as good as it could be -

Patches request for latest project
daddyairplanes posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
i am working on one of my latest projects, a comprehensive set of decals for squadrons and wings in the USAF, AFRES, and ANG. when released it will be tow versions, one tied into my squadronlist ini that will literally be plug and play; and one with the unit names for tga names so modders can use them as they want. the main criteria i have is that the patches represent the TACTICAL FIGHTER SQUADRON era (tho i am working with FIGHTER INTERCEPTOR AND FIGHTER BOMBER as well) not just fighters squadron. if i wanted it that easy i could get all i wanted on wikipedia. any help you all can give with this in images would be greatly appreciated. I already have 81 squadrons and 26 wing tga down, but wont turn anything away due to changes over the years. That is other than Wikipedia images. thank you in advance for any help anyone can give oh and can do foreign AFs that displayed unit insignia, but it is a MUCH lower priority at the moment than USAF units. -
been to both for at least 6 months. definitely liked KAF better, except for the fact that BAF is much colder. was in my fleece from oct until april at BAF, it was 85 degrees the day i left KAF in December. back to the fast jets, the Mud Hens put up a show getting out of the bowl. but alot more variety at KAF (Brit, French, Dutch, Hogs and USMC) as well as the Hogs and Harriers fired off strafing runs above my work hooch on a couple of occasions.

Skin Request for TW F-16A, 138TFS, NYANG 174th TFW
daddyairplanes replied to Stick's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
i am very certain there is one in the Viper pack DL section. not stock TW, but still in there and better for what your lookin at than stock anyhow most likely' -
I can think of one primary reason to do so. The sinking of a warship is an act of war. What would war between the US and USSR lead to in the 1960s? Also, all of the Sov's sank the Scorpion theories come back to a Russian belief we sank one of their subs in the Pacific previously. So if so, the Soviets felt justified but prob didn't want to exchange nukes over it. In either event the activies of the subs is a rather touchy topic even today.

Project Topic Dhimar/Paran Enhancement
daddyairplanes replied to dast24's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Sci-Fi/Anime/What If Forum
this is looking like a pretty good project. i am still slowly working my own line of thought but has the Dhimari's trying to standardize as much as possible for maint./logistical reasons. also running a Dhimari Naval Aviation component that is more tech advanced due to smaller size than the AF. but my ideas are still very much in outline mode as well as finding good fit that is available here rather than at DAT. still some variance as some airframes just wont work well in the desert and a US embargo in the 70s finds other sources of arms. but overall i treat them as similar to the Saudis in ability to purchase and US relations..... edit: oh and the merc squadrons are actually training units for new aircraft, not "technically" used for combat. and funded by the royals, not buy your ammo as needed. thats arcade land IMO, not real life. -
IR AIM-4 constant near misses
daddyairplanes replied to Sheriff001's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
main reason for that was they were the sole missile armament for the F-106. given it was designed for that system and the pilots worked exclusively with it most Six pilots report favorably on it especially in the later years when they had worked the kinks out and KNEW the system. but i am willing to bet if they could have modified to use Winder and Sparrow they would have changed in a heart beat. also their mission set was what the Falcon was designed for... to intercept Bear and Badger bombers off the US coast. AND they still swapped from the Genie to the gun with Project Six Shooter.... -
IR AIM-4 constant near misses
daddyairplanes replied to Sheriff001's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
well the Falcon was a VERY unreliable missile to begin with. but against a non manuevering B-17 drone that is interesting that you got no hits. also keep in mind it was contact fused so if the Fort did move at all and the missile missed by as little as 1 ft, there would be no boom. unfortunealtly the fighters you listed dont allow you to pull a GEN Olds and swap for Sidewinders. -
problem solved.

unfortunately not many planes at THAT site get remade here. i do understand the logic of not reinventing the wheel, but it is nice the things we have here. and you don't have to perform an unnatural act with a goat to get and maintain membership! -
