JPEG skins
daddyairplanes posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
so my question today is... how can jpeg and bitmap skins co-exsist in game? i had worked on a lo-viz skin in .bmp format a few months ago before patching to Mar12. went to fly after the patch and noticed that it was reverting back to the stock skin. on lookin at the CATs how the are named and such and noticed that the stock skins are now jpeg format. While it would be easy enough to convert my skin to jpeg in Gimp, i am curious how both styles co-exsist. what had to be changed in .ini land for this to happen? -

still gotta convert the skin and see, gotta love RL. but i have Gimp so not much problem converting. i was wondering for imfo purposes and that info could be useful for those with modding desire but not so much talent. (like i really have any ) -

umm wow. if im understanding that right future skins will be best done in JPEG then? interestin as a look through with the cat extractor has the Phantoms all bmp still, and A-7D. but the naval SLUFs are jpeg. and most of the decals are still tga(at least all 1200 Phantom tail numbers are!) you posted while i was typing the original Dave. soooo why then might my modded skin in .bmp not show in the current stock A-7E which is in JPEG stock? hadd kept the name the same in the texture set at first but changed the name out after patching and noticing this and still no dice. -
happy belated birthday sorry i didnt catch this sooner, or i'd have uploaded the "get off the nuclear weapon" clip from Armageddon while i could have!

F-100 as a maritime strike plane
daddyairplanes replied to dsawan's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Sci-Fi/Anime/What If Forum
not implausible. Denmark was using it in the late 50's plus at least Turkey and France within NATO. probably would have been less maintenence intensive and more forgiving to fly than the Starfighters they did wind up getting, as well as a capable platform with CBU, rockets and AS30s. since many D's were wired for Bullpup it should have been too hard to rewire for European ASM although radar would have been an issue for all weather missions. -

early in the F-4C's 57th service the rudder was the only part with a checkerboard. towards the end before conversion to the E they went ADC grey witha fintip checkerboard. not to mention the bicentennial bird they had. just some variations on the theme to share.... -
makes us look pretty good only hanging the Canadian flag upside down at the World Series. at least we didn't sing about Montreals hookers

very true. however the pics obviously belong in what if section as the Mig-29 doesn't have the legs to get out to the CVBG, let alone past the local air defenses. -

they usually do. takes a while sometimes, esp. depending on how much TK feels like fixin em. eg the white borders on dark thirdparty decals(dissappeared with may11 patch but back with Nov11 or Mar12) -

researching Phantoms for my project STORM and yes many squadrons changed carriers up throughout the war. The squadron was actually assigned to the carrier air wing (CVW) not the carrier itself. for skinning you could make year specific skins so the proper carrier is modded. -

lost in installation
daddyairplanes replied to Sokol's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
??? should get everything in the merged install, plus any mods added. only running the patch right now not NA, but my Phantom test install works just fine. try deleting the whole mod folder, run the game once then see how it works. -

daddyairplanes replied to Sokol's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
in one of last years patches TK fixed it so you do not have to instal in order. the exception is the Expansion Packs. You HAVE TO HAVE SF2 Isreal before installing the EXP1, and HAVE TO HAVE SF2Europe before installing EXP2. if you install now all games (SF2, SF2Vietnam, etc) will be to the current March2012 patch level. hope this clears things up for you. -
