Interesting point of view (speaking of m16 and ak47)
daddyairplanes replied to Murphy'S's topic in The Pub
i convoyed in iraq during the "hillbilly armor" days, when windows were replace with a 1/8 inch plate of steel, cut so a hole remains to see out the window and rear view mirror . was supposed to be highly effective at stopping a 5.56 mm round dead in its tracks. unfortuneatly the other side shoots 7.62 or bigger. fortunetaly i never had to find out if it works! -
30 is not the day you feel old. you will feel old when you realized that people you work with weren't born during major life events (in my case Challenger, 1st Gulf War, Berlin Wall coming down) even had a lil sh!t ask me when i was on active duty what Vietnam was like. the older one was messin with me. the 17 yr old he got to ask really thought i was there! i am 33 btw ugh

just like it says. i've moved away from doing plastic kit and am only doing a few with some special meaning to me. the ones on the market are as follows F-14A with decals for VF-143 Pukin Dogs Academy 1/48 scale F-4F Phantom 2 Special red and black scheme for JG71 from 2000 Hasegawa 1/48 F-14A Atlantic Fleet Squadrons w/ photo etched parts Hasegawa 1/72 F-4E Phantom 2 markings for the 5000th Phantom produced Hasegawa 1/72 F-4C/D/J various possible units between USAF,USN and USMC Fujimi 1/72 F9F-5P Reconnaisance Panther Monogram 1/48 all have been opened thought the oldest two are the Hasegawa Phantoms (from Christmas 01). only defects known/ remembered are that the Hasegawa Tomcat lost its full color VF-31 decals to a project for my daughter(with the Felix the Cat and all) and the box for the Panther is banged up a bit but not destroyed. If you are interested for free i will also throw in a Hasegawa F-4J that is started but not complete(fuselage joined and wings together but two assemblies not joined ). sorry no photos at this time. asking price is 45.00 USD plus shipping but it is negotiable. main thing is that they go to some one that will enjoy putting them together. PM me if interested to arrange the sale. TIA daddyairplanes

sorry on the lead time here. discovered this morning that you can catch bronchitis (thank you mommyairplanes! ) as for the unit it was Det 16 of the 57th FWS. they were there doin someting with the ioc for the F-16 (hence the international Viper team decal on intake) though why in a D model Phantom i'm not so sure. -

you mean like the X-32 prototype? -
it's a beatiful bird fer sure. suprised i've never been on one with around 14 transatlantic trips under my belt. but AMC contractors Omni and World Airways mostly fly L1011 and the couple straight outta my pocket flights i made were on 777. the lockheed .... thing.... is a dog by comparison to any boeing product.

been takin my wife to the ER or the docs bout everyother day for almost two weeks now. bronchitis that thanks to military doc blowoff's has progressed into pnuemonia. anyhow, i took her to the city ER instead of the base one last night and took the girls home instead of stayin in the waiting room for hours late at night. my current house is right below the flightpath for heavies coming into Pope AFB to land and they have been doin some training involving formations of 130's and -17's. but what i had never seen before was 3 C-17s in the pattern with their slime lights on! keep in mind they are generally about 500-1000 feet above my house depending on weather and it was clearing up from the winter "storm" we had earlier(typical fayetteville 3 flakes to show but the local flakes all paniced and opened everything late) so they were on the lower end of the ceiling. was loading girls to get mom but still would have made a great photo. they were low enough to silouhette without any assist yet also lit up with everything. quite different from my previous close ups with em in Kandahar or scorchin Ali Al Saleem. for those about to ask bout my wife she is somewhat better got to see her doc finally instead of a green suit one and get proper meds instead of being told it was "viral". military docs are great for patchin up lifethreating injuries, but i swear they shouldnt be allowed within a mile of a sick family member!

sounds cool. bit simpler for ya on the SEA wrap. on the regular SEA the numbers appear to be segmented(check the book it shows better than i can describe) but it never made it into Euro 1 transitioned to Vipers instead. your skins (all items on skin) are freakin awesome. i am still pluggin away at my decal based mod, less HD space intensive and simpler to use for to lower end simple folks out there(like me:grin: ) wrench just pointed me in a good direction for adding squadron and wing decals to the intakes soo heeere weee gooo agaaainn. -

history note on both 401 tfw in torrejon spain started as a F-4E operator then devolved to a C operator before moving up at the end of the 70s to D's then Vipers in the 80's. 49th was part of the scramble to get outta France in 67, relocated to Holloman with a secondary assinged based in USAFE (europe tasking) operated the D, transitioned to the Eagle late 70s. another interesting unit was the 474th TFW, wrapped up with F-111s after vietnam, operated D's for a while til the transition in the early 80's to the Viper. was responsible for "training aircrews and mainting a ready force for contigencies". hmmmmmm..... -

sounds like an old deep thought by jack handy............. when in the middle of a war i might throw a little pumpkin instead of a grenade. then everyone would stop and wonder about how senseless it all is. then while they are standing around and wondering. i would throw the real grenade..... yep back from when SNL was semi good
