SF2 Screenshot Thread
daddyairplanes replied to Stary's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
looks like a modern version of a brit plan in WW2 to build iceberg size carriers outta ice. would have been big enough to support a squadron of B-17s plus an escorting wing of fighters with no need for catapult or arresting gear -
No fly Zone over Libya...
daddyairplanes replied to Slartibartfast's topic in Military and General Aviation
well damn. didnt think the Navy had em fully up and runnin yet. in that case the Libyan EADS should be a good warm up for them. -

i dont think so. they are still in the evaluation mode, not to mention the US so far only seems to be committing cruise missles and warships to the effort. -

F-15 Super Pack
daddyairplanes replied to DEVIL11's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
you need SF2E specifically as it uses the stock eagle cockpit (if i read the readme right) -
good luck to your nephew. it has quieted down there quite a bit since i was there in 05. i could expect a mortar attack 2-3 times a day while i was there. yet when i was talkin to iraq folks waitin on my R+R flight from Afghanistan in 09, they thought i was in some serious $h!t for recieving a rocket attack once a week. he keeps his eyes and ears open, and doesnt get complacent (however bored he gets) and he should be just fine.

No fly Zone over Libya...
daddyairplanes replied to Slartibartfast's topic in Military and General Aviation
hopefully Obama gets off his a$$ and allows naval air to provide the SEAD for this. as for actual air to air and air to mud, i think the Brits and French should have that wrapped up with assets in theater, tho after the last 25 years and with the retirement of the Tornado F3s we prob have the best air defense suppresion capability. looks like Rafale and Typhoon are bout to get broken in... -
Well, I Think its Time to move on !
daddyairplanes replied to Veltro2k's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
as suhsjake said welcome to the dark side. i liked Gen 1 cause of the plethora of Phantoms but my computer skills were so poor (i didnt know what ini's did!) that i only used plug and play mods. i have picked up quite a bit with Gen 2 ( and added around 40 units to my Phantom fleet in decals and squadronlist) and if a cherry like me finds it easy to mod with a meastro like yourself will produce true works of art. like all the rest i look forwaard to it sir -
on the one hand it does stop and make you wonder for a moment. on the other multiple wars, disasters and signs of "the end" have been around for as long as people have been congregating in at least two groups and someone was out front of those groups to explain "it all". the difference today is instant communication where anyone/everyone can know what is happening or said anywhere in the world. same rapid progression that allowed my first deployment in 2000 to feature 1 phonecall a day (if i wanted to get up at 3 am, being a newly wed at the time i did) and one internet seson a week to afghan 2009 where my wife heard the rocket fly overhead and hit thru my cellphone! then looked me over on my personal internet/webcam in the room to make sure i wasnt bleeding anywhere. the same things i think are going on around the world, we just know about it sooner and pay people who are not much smarter than you or i to run their mouths about it.

BACKUP! my drive died
daddyairplanes replied to Stary's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
it really depends on how secure you want to be or paranoid you let yourself get. i have a 500GB external that i download to periodically to maintian my files. if im not savin something or lookin for something on it it stays unhooked from my computers. others are alittle more hardcore in their backup standards. -

SF2E exp2 Mission editor - No carrier or Ships
daddyairplanes replied to Silverbolt's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
ok just gave something a try here. SF2V/E/I with EXP 1 and 2, flew A-7E off of the Kittyhawk and bombed Beriut Int'ls runway. prob would have landed on the carrier too if i hadnt over flown a Zues23 and blown up. go into your mission editor , center the map over water and create a ground object.(sake of arguement it will be G001.) then go to the info for your assigned flight/aircraft and set the start and landing bases for G001. you will take off and land from the carrier. -
SF2E exp2 Mission editor - No carrier or Ships
daddyairplanes replied to Silverbolt's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mission & Campaign Building Discussion
there was a whole thread about it, they wound up making new tiles(?) for the water and it solved the issue of no ships showing up. -

daddyairplanes replied to Wad Cutter's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
i wanna know how your planes are flying straight. i have three children and sometimes have to step away from the computer while its loading. if it takes me awhile to get things sorted, i may very well see my bird in a smoking pile on the ground! no granted when your paying attn to it the aircraft maynot fight you as hard as other sims, but arcades dont just crash ya w/o input -
Mirage Factory F-14B Cockpit
daddyairplanes replied to mosherec's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
yep i did like bein with a signal company my year there as for gettin onto CA and d/l'ing you should be able to get on once in a while whatever yer circumstance and checkout whats goin on. (unless your really in BFE, like the border) downloads on the otherhand are another matter. i had my own in room internet in Kandahar (good ole candyland) for Skype'ing with the wife and could sometimes d/l on that. however it took a long time (26 hours for all parts of NF4+!). and our CO wasnt much for morale use of the network other than email Google and planned videoconferences back home, so not so much d/l on NIPR. another option if you have your laptop and a good friend/family in the states is to get a thumbdrive sent with some d/l's to add to yer game. also assumin your on a budget (like most soldiers) get Gimp and try your hand at skinning/decalling. hey ya got nuthin but time to give it a go. ok sorry just read ya post on location. still our teams that went to start ups like that said they went up pretty quick. and if you have a JNN team in the area and you got a useful jobset (supply, cooks, mechanics) make nice with em quick. they got yer internet (however slow!) -
@server its a bit old news there, has been judged to be the 5th mosth powerful in the WORLD since records have been kept. @Siddog (when ya get the chance) helluva cool thing yer deployment there being to help people. not too many green suiters get to say that these days. stay safe and leave any glowing to the submarine guys!

SF2 Downloads Organization.
daddyairplanes replied to KJakker's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
no worries on time just yet. as someone said the Gen 2 section is still quite abit smaller than Gen1. those of us who've been navigating it since it kicked off should have a good idea roughly where things are and for the new guys i usually point them in the right directon if they are lookin for something. but i still want a Phantom page like you want a pony! -

9.5 gig of skins. Can i remove some?
daddyairplanes replied to Pawgy's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
a possibility which i know works in TW sims tho i am unsure about OFF is to reduce the size of the skins using a photoshop program. many of the hi resolution skins in SF2 slow my computer down until i reduce the size from say 4096x4096 to 1024 or even 512. i think the Off vets can give better guidance on how if this is an option in game. also as far as the game using all, wow that is some immersion! TW will function as long as it has a skin, tho you might have say USAF Hercules in a RAF squadron. -
