Is WOFF strictly solo flying?
RAF_Louvert replied to Hauksbee's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. I pretty much had my fill of MP from my old RB3D online squadron days. SP has been holding all my interest for a good long time now and I am quite happy with that. But to each their own, and there is a lot of fun to be had in MP if it's set up properly. . -
WOFF Verdun Map Completed
RAF_Louvert replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. Thanks Javito and Shiloh, glad to learn it is working for both you gents. I've made a few small changes and have just posted the new revised map. I moved a couple of aerodromes slightly and turned on the layer showing Shredward's very cool forts. I've only run across two of them so far so if you see more please let me know where they are and I will add them in. . -
WOFF Verdun Map Completed
RAF_Louvert replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. Greetings All, The first update to my Verdun mapping project is now available and it has expanded on the original quite a bit. Based on user feedback the following has been done: Increased the size of the various symbols Added in the railways and depots Added outlines to the lakes in the wooded areas for better contrast Added basic footprints of the larger cities as seen from the air Miscellaneous corrections and adjustments to original map section I will be filling in the missing corners and pushing to the east next to include Nancy, however that will be a bit down the road, (pun intended), as I intend to just fly some campaign missions this weekend. As before, any and all feedback will be much appreciated as will any corrections that anyone happens to note during their flights navigating from this map. Enjoy! Lou . -

. Well that's not the news you wanted to hear. I'll keep prayin' for you man. Stay tough. . -
. hee hee hee, good one Lima. Hauksbee, I was doing my Master Po impression though it does not translate well in a forum post ... Grasshopper. "If a man dwells on the past, then he robs the present. But if a man ignores the past, he may rob the future. The seeds of our destiny are nurtured by the roots of our past." Kung Fo fans, anyone ... anyone? .

WOFF pushing my 'borderline' rig to the limits

. Thanks for taking the time to post this Shiloh, I am sure it will prove most useful to folks who are in a situation similar to yours. . -
WOFF overpriced. Is it just me?
RAF_Louvert replied to Blackadder33's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. That sounds like a lot of fun corsaire31, quite reminiscent of some of the old RB3D online campaigns. I wish I had more time and a better internet connection, I'd be onboard in a heartbeat. Oh, and to the OP, WOFF is definitely not overpriced in my humble and honest opinion. . -
. Have fun Olham! Be sure to bring us back some postcards. .

. Mmmmm, Aberfeldy 12. I prefer Tullamore Dew 12 but Aberfeldy is quite fine as well, particularly when I'm in a Scotish frame of mind. . -
WOFF Verdun Map Completed
RAF_Louvert replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. Robert, you should ask Pol about the placement of the items and routes on the in-sim map. If it is as simple as replacing one map with another, more detailed one of the same size I'd think that it would have been done for WOFF. I fear it is far more complicated than this. And yes, I most assuredly did get that drink. . -

. Robert, unless the maps are identical in both size and scale, I doubt the course would lay out properly. . -
WOFF Verdun Map Completed
RAF_Louvert replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. Was out flying a recce of the 15 miles east of Verdun so that I can keep building my map. I just visited the thread over at SimHQ, the canteen will be my next stop but I thought I better check in here first. Robert, I answered your question about the fonts in your post over at SimHQ so you should be good to go. Hauksbee, the map is indeed the result of the first recce missions I flew, along with help from Google Earth and Google Map for proper placement of the towns and roads. Shiloh, I sketch in the mission routes right onto the map I have up on my second monitor and fly accordingly. WOFF doesn't seem to care if you hit the way points or not, only that you loiter over your designated target area for the prescribed amount of time. OK then, time for some liquid refreshments. Later Gents! . . -
. Greetings All, Hope everyone's Christmas was merry and bright, I know mine was. With the time off for the holiday I've been able to get a good way along on my Verdun mapping project and I am posting a test version of what I have so far for those who might like to give it a go. Just right click and save the jpeg image, then resize as needed and print it out. Or, if you're like me and you run a second computer and monitor, simply pop it up on that screen and use it as your 'in cockpit' map. Keep in mind it is still a work in progress so there will likely be a few adjustments to be made, but I've flown quite a few missions so far using it and it is very close, and quite easy to navigate by. Now that I have the system down for doing this extensive type of mapping I will be expanding this one to cover the entire Verdun region. But one step at a time. Let me know what you think ... and enjoy! Update : Map Completed 2-21-2014 .

. "A Story for the Season" 1916: Christmas Eve at the Front. The War has dragged itself along on its steely, mud-caked claws for over two years, and the end seems no closer now than when it all began. At an RFC aerodrome not ten miles from the first line trenches, a group of airmen sit through the morning’s briefing, and prepare themselves for the day’s work. They are nearly all young men, at least in years. But with war comes age beyond a calendar’s mark, and one would find that each man is far older than first appearance would tell if a moment were taken to look into his eyes. As the meeting breaks the jovial banter can be heard amongst the group: the good-natured ribbing and warnings, the verbal jousting, the camaraderie and the closeness that bonds souls together in such tenuous and temporary times. Across the mud at a German aerodrome, a similar scene is being played out. The Jagdstaffel pilots there are also preparing themselves for the task at hand. To look at them, you might imagine they were schoolmates of their British counterparts, rather than enemies soon to be locked in mortal combat. For they too laugh and joke, and share that same bond. And they too are of the "old young". The hour is at hand. On each side the signal is given and the small, fast scout planes skim along the cold, icy ground, and one by one lift into a winter sky as grey as the earth below. They form up, and after climbing to their prescribed altitudes, they head towards No Man’s Land and on to do their best; for King and Country; für Kaiser und Vaterland. They meet, and there is the initial gun pass as each sizes up the other. A few moments later and the aerial battle begins in earnest. To those in the fight it is a mind-numbing blur of action that runs in both accelerated and slow motion simultaneously. A split second given to pull the trigger as a plane zips across the sights: an eternity spent to try and twist out of the path of the bullets. An entire lifetime won or lost in less than an eye blink. To those on the ground it appears as a graceful ballet of the sky, the canvas-feathered birds turning and rolling and climbing and diving. But it is a dance to the death more often than not, and it will end when one or more has fallen. And one has fallen. The long, slow, spiraling pirouette as the finale comes to the dance. The others have now tired and as if by mutual agreement or unseen signal the partners separate and turn away. The audience below does not understand how it can be over so quickly. They cannot see the fatigue and exhaustion of those in the air; cannot see their battered ships, or their bruised and aching bodies; or their tired, aging eyes. No, they can see none of these things, any more than the men in the air can see the pain or the agony endured by those who must fight on the ground. Each sees the other from afar, as through a glass darkly. It is an irony of war that in each case, either in the Sky or on the Earth, a man better understands and is more akin to the enemy he fights in his realm than to his own countrymen above or below. Christmas Eve at the Front. Night has fallen and the pilots sit about the dinner table at their respective aerodromes, and talk of flying and fighting, and of family and friends. Wishes of the Season are shared, letters from home are read. Songs of hope are sung and toasts are made to fellow flyers, and to mothers and sweethearts. At one of the tables an empty chair stands in remembrance of the comrade lost that day, and to whom the final toast is made. He will be missed, and to a loved one back home he will forever be a young man with bright, happy eyes; forever a photograph, a memory of a life that could have been. It matters not which side he fought for. He was a man, a part of human kind, and with his passing we are all the lesser for it. . May you have safe and blessed holidays wherever you are, and may we each remember the true message of this season: Peace on earth, good will toward men. Lou .

To all Forum-Friends and the CA-Team: Merry Christmas
RAF_Louvert replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
. And the same from me. A very merry Christmas to everyone here, you are a great bunch! . -
. Thanks for the words of encouragement Gents. Yes, it is a rather massive undertaking but it is going well. And just as a teaser and to give you an idea of where I am heading with this: The whole point of this project for me is to create a "paper" map that anyone can use to navigate with, (if they so wish), thus taking the immersion level just that much further in this wonderful sim. .
