vinny ridge session
Winston DoRight replied to sitting_duck's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - Multiplayer
That's odd. Both the missions for me were overcast skies and rain. -
Rockets for HitR N-17 bis
Winston DoRight replied to Winston DoRight's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - Mission Building
Ditto for the N-24 bis as well. The regular N-24 is OK. Go figure. -
I'll be there!

I'm up for that. I'll be available any day except Sundays, just let me know when you want to do it.

Here's a graphic world time map. It's quicker and easier to use than the converter site I listed above. http://www.zebramap.com/ -

Winston's Saturday MP sessions
Winston DoRight replied to Winston DoRight's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - Multiplayer
That's correct. 10am here (left coast) is 1pm on the east side and 6pm in western europe. I plan on being online for about 6-7 hours so if you can't make the start come on in later if you want. I may also need some help from someone in the east states if we get players from europe. Vasco had problems with lag when I was hosting a test session, so if I could hand off my prepared missions to someone closer to them and have them be the host, it might cut down on the lag. My internet connection is fast on the download, but a bit slow on the upload so that's probably what causes the lag when trying to go over the pond. If not I'll be happy to host and we'll just trust that the jitters don't scare away the new guys. It also seems that bad jitters affect your ability to hit the enemy a/c. I had this happen a few times when playing with you guys months ago, but couldn't understand the reason. My guns, even though I was seeing the bullets seem to hit, did not register hits. This was very noticeable for Vasco the other day and is a product of the jitters when at it's worst. I'll be online during the day starting Tuesday 26 Jan if anyone wants to fly or test a few converted missions I have made. -
Most efficient way of gaining altitude?
Winston DoRight replied to Javito1986's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
My first thought was the possibility that you were stalling and falling so many times that you were actually losing more altitude than you were gaining. Then I remembered the age old CFS3 fact that the weight of the pilot is not modeled in the AI aircraft. You'll not be able to climb as well as your AI wingmen or AI adversaries because of this. Your craft is heavier than the AI craft. There was a fix that someone developed for CFS3 and ETO where they added a non jettisonable pylon and some kind of weight onto it for the AI craft. It worked well and evened the weight advantage, but as far as I know no ones been able to do this on the OFF models. This discrepancy is easily noticed in flight. As flightleader, once you find your wingmen have been seperated a bit from you and are behind you trying to catch up, fly as fast as you can, 100% throttle, level flight, optimum mixture. You'll soon see that they catch you rather quickly, but how is that possible if they have a craft with roughly the same speed/power? It's just a buggy thing, a holdover from CFS3. Maybe in some future phase for OFF, the devs might find this is something worth looking into. In the meantime, your best bet is leading your flights yourself. Then you can climb to whatever higher altitude you feel necessary to avoid being at such a large altitude disadvantage. -
Winston's Saturday MP sessions
Winston DoRight replied to Winston DoRight's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Sittingduck found this deal online: http://www.gearxs.com/gearxs/product_info.php?products_id=12760 Walmart has a few decent ones in the $15 price range. newegg.com has an enormous selection and some of the inexpensive ones are quite good. I've had my Turtle Beach $20 'phones for so long I'm about ready to splurge on a quality set soon. -
It looks real good. More like the map that should have come with the game. This looks like it will be a valuable resource for the no TAC flyers.

OFF or RoF? Help the n00b!
Winston DoRight replied to vyrago's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I, like many of the others who have replied here, cannot comment on RoF because I don't own it. But I do know how it works and that's why I refuse to support companies that have such intrusive and unreasonable DRM as RoF does. You have to be on their server while you play single player? Sorry not for me. With the way the price is dropping on that title I'm guessing they wont be in business forever. No servers and that title will then be collecting dust on your shelf or you'll be using it as your most expensive coaster. I believe it's best to support software companies that use reasonable DRM/copy protection. Don't let this type of DRM become the norm by purchasing them. -

spawning order for MP missions
Winston DoRight replied to VonGuber's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - Multiplayer
Thanks, that's good to know. It makes perfect sense. I ran into problems when I tried moving one of my bomber flights because I didn't want players respawning into them. I didn't realize at first that I was trying to move the flight that I was to be escorting! Needless to say when trying to load back into MB it would have none of that! Moving any other flight works well though. -

Thanks to all you guys for helping me sort out these missions. I'll be ready soon with the new Saturday sessions!

Can someone explain to me what in the heck just happened?
Winston DoRight replied to Javito1986's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Are you using the keyboard for flight? If so, get a cheap joystick w/ throttle and see the difference. IMHO this sim really can't be flown properly with digital keystrokes where analog input is used (pitch, yaw, roll). -
Alternative Shellmusic
Winston DoRight replied to Creaghorn's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Absoloutely marvelous work! I'd like to urge the dev team to incorporate these into the next patch. Perhaps alternate the menu music with the existing theme by Milne? And if possible if the code permits, auto switch/detect the german and english files as appropriate for whichever side your flying. -

Amigas "Wings" Diary
Winston DoRight replied to Creaghorn's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
If some of you young pups don't know what Wings was, it was a flight simulator on the Commodore Amiga computer. Quite advance for the time, around 1989 wasn't it? Look here: -
24 Sqn RFC Online Campaign
Winston DoRight replied to Vasco's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - Multiplayer
Well said Von Baur and Duck. I recently repaired my computer from a complete burnout with the sole purpose of getting back to some MP in OFF. Imagine my disappointment when I took that most humbling flight with Vasco last week and realized that I would not be able to fly effectively and have any fun with the labels off. At 62 years old my eyes are a little slow to react and the only plane I actually put rounds into was a friendly! Not to mention that I was always in the clouds at altitude and could see absolutely nothing of the aircraft that the others were seeing. Nobody is going to want me near them in a shotting match, so with the TAC only settings, I had little choice but to retire. I haven't turned my gaming computer on since. I really hope I'm the only one who is not playing because of this, but it seems that may not be the case. The poll here shows the voting for aids to be rather close to the barbed wire style vote. Add the votes for all kinds of aids together and it is clear that aids are requested. I've played flight sims since the '80's and have always enjoyed the fact that "aids" makeup for the limitations of being in a simulator. Not being able to see as far in a sim or to distinguish the difference between friend and enemy at realistic ranges here is "aided" by the TAC and labels. Now you have a campaign scheduled with 2 flyable aircraft that you really can't see behind you, another case point for aids. It's going to be hard to attract new MP players or encourage an interest in online play if they need to be of advanced skill status in order to participate. I understand the need to move on in search of the realism that fulfills you leaving the less skilled ones behind, but is this the message you want to send to the rest of the OFF community? Enjoy the campaign guys. Vasco has put a lot of hard work into the missions and the aircraft you'll be flying are a challenge in themselves. Hope you all stay alive and become aces. Watch out for the ground fire. In 1916 it shouldn't have been a factor but it got me twice in the test mission. Wish I were joining you. Cheers.
