  1. The ground target(s) you seek are usually somewhere near the waypoints but probably not exactly at the end of any of the waypoints. You have to look around a bit for them.
  2. Multiplayer only

    OK, the last a/c the Nieuport 24 Bis Lewis is fixed for multiplayer use. We now have all the flyable a/c available to use in MP that are in the game (and more). If anyone finds another that has problems in MP just let me know and I'll have a look at it.
  3. What would you like to get in P4?

    Ambulances are already in the game. Just not programmed into any single player missions that I've seen. In MP I use them to receive the wounded that we bring back from our rescue missions.
  4. Multiplayer only

    Rather than modify the a/c to unrealistically carry extra ammo, we've opted to use the standard ammo loadouts but switch on "STRONGEST" gun settings on the host computer. This compensates a bit for the lag issues and the fact that the enemy is harder to bring down for all players that are not the host. Sure the host now has super guns and will get more kills than most of us, but al least now the other players can damage something! With the host on "NORMAL" or "STRONG" guns, the players have to put extra shots into the enemy to bring him down. Go figure.

    I'm making standalone aircraft from the defective ones. Remember the ones that are defective in multiplayer still work properly in single player so we don't want to mess with the original files. It seems that the "Long Name" , and/or "Model Name" in the .xdp files have too many characters. This has been known to cause problems in the regular CFS3 game and expansions too. I'm making standalones with shorter names and they now can been seen in multiplayer. Simple as that, but the solution had eluded us for so long.
  6. What would you like to get in P4?

    Hmmmmm.... it seems the "wish-list" contains some things that already exist in the game. In multiplayer that is. For large bombers: Axis Gotha and Zeppelin. Allied Short torpedo plane, RAF FE2d, and R-80/R-82 airships. Zeppelins with bases: There's already one in the game, but no single player missions are there. (hint: mission builder, most southeast airfield) Ships to be attacked: There are abundant MP missions for this. More variety of ground targets to attack: How about attacking a Large Factory or a Shipyard. Or an Opera House where the staff officers are attending a performance, or Buckingham Palace? We do it in multiplayer. And for single player More damage effects: Don't ignore Herr-Propwasche's new damage model (single player). It's by far superior to the stock one. If you haven't tried OFF multiplayer, you've only seen half of the game.

    Today I successfully fixed the Nieuport 17 Lewis and the Nieuport 24 Lewis. Tomorrow I'm doing the last one, the Nieuport 24 Bis Lewis. If it works then we will have all of the aircraft available in multiplayer and mission builder.
  8. M I A - Missing in action

    I'm here. I log-in every day and post when I have something to say. A better way to check on someone is to click on their name which takes you to their profile. There you can see when they last logged in and then you can click on "Find My Content". This will show you that I last posted in the Multiplayer section just yesterday. Checking the list again I can tell you that Red-Dog is active here, logged in on Saturday last, and posted the day before. He and Vasco and myself are flying OFF multiplayer daily. Stumpjumper is quite busy with his Pearl Harbor add-on to PTO but last logged in 18 minutes ago and posted Friday last. Capt. Winters' job is keeping him away from this hobby most of the time. He's only home a few days here and there and then back to work in remote locations. What I want to know is what happened to Loopy? Red-Dog, Loopy and myself used to fly the CFS3 WW2 expansions every day until one day Loopy didn't show up. That was a month ago and no word from him even by e-mail. I hope he's OK and just on a nice long vacation. I have a feeling that once bad weather hits again this year, and people are snuggled warmly in their home cockpits, a lot of M.I.A'.s will find their way home.

    I think I've figured out why some of the a/c don't work properly in MP. I've managed to repair the Sopwith Triplane 2 Gun and it tested sucessfully in a session with Vasco and Red-Dog. Tonight I worked over the Nieuport 17 Lewis and will be testing it tomorrow. I'll be working on some of the others soon and hopefully by the time everybody is ready for fall and winter MP sessions, we'll have a few more a/c to choose from. These are for MP only. The original versions all work fine in single player but are invisible in MP.

    I think I've found another pilot to join us. I'll be trying to get him installed and checked out ASAP before I leave on Vacation Sept 2 through 15th. If I'm somewhat missing in action until the 15th..... blame it on the Baseball season. If he shows up while I'm gone, don't scare him away with the hard stuff and maybe he'll bring in a few more friends.

  12. Sound Tweak II. 100% improvement

    I don't know why I didn't reply to this initially, but...... this mod is simply wonderful! I cannot imagine flying without this and the other small patch you made. It improves the sound dramatically and I highly recommend this to all. Everyone who uses it in multiplayer noticed the improvement as well. GOOD JOB! If anyone has not got this and the patch installed, you're missing out on a much more immersive sound environment.

    There's some add-on aircraft for OFF, but only available to play in mission builder designed missions or online. Some are: Axis Gotha bomber Allied Short 184 torpedo plane Axis Zeppelin Allied R-80 and R-82 airships Plus some fixes for existing a/c that don't work in multiplayer: Strutter 1A2 Strutter 1B1 N-17bis

    Ammo loadouts are defined in the aircrafts .xdp file. You can read/edit this in notepad. Since the ammo drums were carried in a common crew position (the front gunner was also the rear gunner) you could easily modify the amount of ammo for each gun. This is all fine for single player, but then if you play in multiplayer, the aircraft's .xdp file that you modified will mismatch with the host. This is to prevent cheating, making sure that all online players have the same ammo loadouts.
  15. What I'd like to see in Phase IV

    Good lord man. If you're going to speak for us multiplayers have the decency to join us just once to see what it's really all about. Our MP sessions are rarely against each other but rather in co-op mode on missions, campaigns and mini-campaigns. We are heavy into the use of 2 seaters and bombers. More of these are requested by our MP group rather than further tipping the scales with too many more scouts.

    Look in the bottom right of a post, there's a Green + and a Red - that allows you to voice your opinion on the post. In the past I have recommended that people come here to participate in our forum and mentioned that it was a great place to get help. I stopped telling others to come here because Uncle Al would tear into them viciously for no good reason on their very first post. I lost a few online friends because of this. Maybe now I can spread the word again.

  20. A better way to survive dogfights ?

    I believe that when you press "H" for help, only one of your flightmembers comes to help you (your wingman). Could it have been that the other members in your flight were under no orders at all? Perhaps they took some of the enemys attention from you since they were near you and in a non-attacking mode? I'd be interested in more of your results if you use this tactic exculsively.

    AI planes takeoff with 100% fuel and no weight penalty for it. This is verified in multiplayer because when you spawn into another aircraft near the end of a long mission, there's always much more fuel in the plane you just spawned into compared to your other multiplayer flight members. The lack of modeled weight for fuel and pilot makes the AI planes much more economical on fuel usage as well. Instantly the change happens, now the fuel weight (and pilot weight) is modeled when a human is flying it.

    As I understand it, when the AI flys a craft the weight of the fuel and the weight of the pilot is not modeled. The only thing that can be done is to make AI only aircraft and add an pylon with a non jettisonable dummy weight weapon in the amount of the fuel and pilots weight. I've done this in the CFS3 mods and then used mission builder to make custom missions using the modded AI planes. I have no idea how this could be incorporated into single player OFF.

  24. Leaning Mixture

    I always lean the mixture until the engine can be heard to loose revs then richen it slightly. I do it this way because in combat you can't be looking at the tachometer when you may need a mixture change. When decending you can richen up a bit and you'll learn how much with practice. On decent do it before the engine looses power. Mixture is best controlled with a wheel/axis/buttons on your joystick or controller. It's easier than trying to press the keyboard in the heat of battle. As far as the AI pilots outrunning you, well there's nothing you can do about that as the weights in the AI aircraft are different and they always have a higher performing craft. It's a CFS3 thing. Lead the flight and then you won't get left behind.

    No, reflections work fine for me under WinXP. I'm just interested in this shortcoming for the Win 7 users and the fact that nvidia chooses not to address it.
