CFS3 expansion Mediterranean Air War
Winston DoRight replied to Winston DoRight's topic in Virtual Squadron Chat
Here's the links to the new location. After you get it installed, we'll meet on Teamspeak and I'll give you the small MAW update and all the extras we're running. Let me know when you've got MAW installed and running OK. I'll need to know what OS you're using. Download all these and place in the same folder. Unzip the .zip file and follow the install instructions, usually method 1 install. Don't do anything with the .D0x files. They just need to be in the same folder with the other install files. http://aussiex.org/SOH/MAW/MAWinstallation_v1.3.zip http://aussiex.org/SOH/MAW/dr_cfs3maw_c1_v1.3.D01 http://aussiex.org/SOH/MAW/dr_cfs3maw_c1_v1.3.D02 http://aussiex.org/SOH/MAW/dr_cfs3maw_c1_v1.3.D03 http://aussiex.org/SOH/MAW/dr_cfs3maw_c1_v1.3.D04 http://aussiex.org/SOH/MAW/dr_cfs3maw_c1_v1.3.D05 http://aussiex.org/SOH/MAW/dr_cfs3maw_c1_v1.3.D06 http://aussiex.org/SOH/MAW/dr_cfs3maw_c1_v1.3.D07 http://aussiex.org/SOH/MAW/dr_cfs3maw_c1_v1.3.D08 http://aussiex.org/SOH/MAW/dr_cfs3maw_c1_v1.3.D09 http://aussiex.org/SOH/MAW/dr_cfs3maw_c1_v1.3.D10 http://aussiex.org/SOH/MAW/dr_cfs3maw_c1_v1.3.D11 http://aussiex.org/SOH/MAW/dr_cfs3maw_c1_v1.3.D12 http://aussiex.org/SOH/MAW/dr_cfs3maw_c1_v1.3.D13 http://aussiex.org/SOH/MAW/dr_cfs3maw_c1_v1.3.D14 http://aussiex.org/SOH/MAW/dr_cfs3maw_c1_v1.3.D15 -
Windoze 7 new driver problems are with the light reflections and specular reflections not working anymore. Seems to be a Windows 7 issue and not a Nvidia one. Not much of a problem because OFF does not take advantage of these. Now if you're flying ETO, PTO, or MAW, you'll then see the lack of "shine" and "reflection" on the aircraft skins. It's a Win 7 issue only as those with XP don't have this issue with the new XP drivers. I'm still using 197.xx in XP. If it ain't broke.... don't fix it! I only upgrade Nvidia video drivers every 6 months or so. The last several updates haven't yielded any visible improvements or framerate increases for me.
-
Straight from nvidia's website: Q: Do I need to uninstall my older driver first? A: No. It used to be the case that an uninstall was first required. Today the recommended method is to overinstall the newer driver on top of your older driver. This will allow you to maintain any current NVIDIA Control Panel settings or profiles. Works for me. I haven't used driversweeper in my last two updates. Win 7 users are reporting problems with new drivers. Reade here before you upgrade if your Win 7: http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/showthread.php?t=38816

I read that forum as about the same number of people still dissatisfied with the product as are happy with it. Could it be that the force centering has been improved with the firmware and software update but the 'sticks sloppiness around the center due to physical build tolerances still remains? Something still tells me to hold onto my money and get a few more flights out of my aging Thrustmaster gear.
-
Unfortunately you didn't score any actual kills at all. I'll bet your wingmen swooped in and put a round or two into each of the planes you had going down, and when they do that.... they will score the kill. Tough break. That's the way the game scores it. Whoever hits the plane last gets the credit. Happens to me quite frequently, but then again, there's so many more sorties to be flown. You'll get plenty of other chances.

MP error message - Help required
Winston DoRight replied to Tippers's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - Multiplayer
I'd guess it's a Windoze 7 issue. I'm running XP and have no knowledge of that OS. Go to SoH and read the Win7/Vista mp issues topics there and good luck. -
What happened to the nice OFF skin for this area? This one sucks. I don't want to see C-130's dropping flares or F-15's, F-18's, etc. And there's no links to the OFF website. Open for discussion.........

The jets are dead! Happy, happy. Joy, joy! -
So here we are almost one year later and what has Logitech done to improve this product? ..... Nothing. Nada. Zip. Nil. No improved quality control during manufacture and no software improvements? Not even one software update that fixed anything? This 'stick is soooooo loose in the center, it's way beyond reasonable. I lusted for one of these for a long time until I had a chance to try one out at my local Fry's. They were setting up a flight simulator and were taking the brand new G940 out of the box when I noticed it. I used it for over an hour and really was trying to like it. I loved the throttle, and hated the sloppiness of the 'stick at center. Also my feet kept slipping off the pedals. I could fix that with some type of anti-friction applique I guess, but that 'stick center play is horrible.

Well, since I mostly don't like to trudge along with the rest of the herd, how about something just a liiiiittttttle bit more appropriate to our era? (Thanks in advance for anything you can do to dump the jets) -
Multiple CS3 installations
Winston DoRight replied to themightysrc's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - General Help
Yes, it's a wonderful thing. And great for making a backup of your OFF installation when you're sure everything is working properly. If you have any problems down the road, you can simply delete the faulty folder and play the game from your backup folder. Beats reinstalling any day! -
Multiple CS3 installations
Winston DoRight replied to themightysrc's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - General Help
You don't re-install anything. Just right click on your folder and "copy" then paste it where ever you want. Rename it to what ever you want. Presto, another working folder that you can mod to your hearts content. -

Winston DoRight replied to Tippers's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - Multiplayer
Here's two files from my installation: "dlgmp_dogfightscores.xml" and "dlgmp_teamdogfightscores.xml" Not saying this will fix it but try putting the one you need into your "dialogs" folder and see what happens. http://drop.io/qgvhxgr -

You may want to read the stickies at SoH about Win 7 and Vista connecting in MP : http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/forumdisplay.php?f=7 There's a wealth of info there and maybe something else you need to do. We are flying XP and Vista 32 & 64 together but it doesn't hookup without some extra steps to the Vista machines. I'll check my HD later today for that file. -
problems with nhancer
Winston DoRight replied to Creaghorn's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I never found a need for nhancer. Tried it once and it seems my games plus the standard nvidia control panel was enough. So when I reinstalled my OS this year I did not install it again. Could you get rid of nhancer to confirm that this is the problem or not? -

Winston DoRight replied to Tippers's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - Multiplayer
I've done a lot of multiplayer but not seen that one yet. I suggest you search your OFF folder for that file and move it out somewhere temporarily to see if the game can repair itself/generate another file. Don't delete it in case you need to put it back. -
OT: I Know It's Not OFF, But Still...
Winston DoRight replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
The Gladiator is a nice plane. We are flying them in multiplayer Mediterranean Air War expansion with Blenheims, Hurricanes and PBY Catalinas off the Egyptian coast. I used to fly IL-2 but CFS3 has a much better mission builder IMHO, or at least I have more skills in using it. -
How do I turn off the information text about Health etc?
Winston DoRight replied to vonOben's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Key F5 toggles the blue text about engines, fuel, health, etc and the extra popup gauges. The gauges can be cycled and turned on/off with the Ctrl-Shift-1 through Ctrl-Shift-5 keys. Both the text and the gauges can be moved around with your mouse (you just have to find the right spot to enable you to drag them. If you want extra gauges but not the text, you can drag the text off the screen so it doesn't show. -
Need some advice regarding escort missions, please
Winston DoRight replied to vonOben's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
A small cheat but it works well. We use it in multiplayer a lot: Select one of the aircraft that you are escorting with your 'TAB' key. Make sure it is highlighted yellow on your TAC. Now throughout your mission don't select any other aircraft. When you press your padlock key, you'll snap your view towards your target, in this case the planes you should be escorting. This will work at extreme range too in case you get well seperated. Don't use warp on a escort mission. Suck it up and fly it all in real time or risk warp taking you where you shouldn't be going. -
Cure for the stutters
Winston DoRight replied to John Chorm's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - General Help
If you replace the 0 with another number, that will limit your frame rate to that number. So if you're normally getting 40-60 fps, set it to 30 and it will reduce the stutters but not eliminate them completely. This works only if "Vertical sync" is off in your Nvidia configuration. Other causes of stutters can be: 1. you need to cleanup and de-frag your hard drive 2. other programs running (check your task bar tray and stop ALL programs that arent needed while your playing games) 3. insufficient memory 4. a clunky operating system (is it time to re-install it fresh?) 5. Virus programs need to be in gaming mode or it's best to switch them off while playing. -
Here's what we are doing lately since everyone quit flying OFF online. Red Dog's P-40 Winston's Wellington The B-24 My newly designed Norden Bombsight Stumpjumper, Red Dog, Loopy and I are flying Mediterranean Air War, a free expansion for CFS3. Looking for new squadron members, wanna join? Fighter Pilots make movies. Bomber Pilots make history!

When 'not' OFFing
Winston DoRight replied to Winston DoRight's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - Multiplayer
Good idea Ax. We are flying MAW every day starting at around 10:00am Pacific time. We usually fly about 6 hours or so. We also fly PTO if the Pacific Theatre is more interesting to you. Requires a vanilla CFS3 installation patched to 3.1, then 3.1a Get the patches here: http://www.microsoft.../downloads.aspx if you want to use the mission builder, install it into your vanilla CFS3 installation before installing MAW. Available here: http://www.microsoft...px#missionbuild Free download of MAW here: http://aussiex.org/S...lation_v1.3.zip http://aussiex.org/S...maw_c1_v1.3.D01 http://aussiex.org/S...maw_c1_v1.3.D02 http://aussiex.org/S...maw_c1_v1.3.D03 http://aussiex.org/S...maw_c1_v1.3.D04 http://aussiex.org/S...maw_c1_v1.3.D05 http://aussiex.org/S...maw_c1_v1.3.D06 http://aussiex.org/S...maw_c1_v1.3.D07 http://aussiex.org/S...maw_c1_v1.3.D08 http://aussiex.org/S...maw_c1_v1.3.D09 http://aussiex.org/S...maw_c1_v1.3.D10 http://aussiex.org/S...maw_c1_v1.3.D11 http://aussiex.org/S...maw_c1_v1.3.D12 http://aussiex.org/S...maw_c1_v1.3.D13 http://aussiex.org/S...maw_c1_v1.3.D14 http://aussiex.org/S...maw_c1_v1.3.D15 Place all files in the same folder. unzip the installation zip file don't do anything with the .Dxx files, they're database files and contain the installation files. read the instructions for a easy install. Works great in Win XP 32 bit. If you have Vista/Win 7 32 or 64 bit, Loopy and /or Red dog can show you how to set it up to run, just meet us on teamspeak. configure it like you did in the original CFS3 and set up your controller assignments Read the OFF setup instructions here: http://combatace.com...ent&event_id=49 or here: http://combatace.com...ay-mp-sessions/ Everything is valid except the new teamspeak2 IP. Get that here: http://combatace.com...ayer-important/ Once you get on teamspeak, I'll give you links for the extra aircraft we're using. They're easy installs. We're flying mostly custom made co-op missions made by Red Dog and myself, but if we had more players we could fly some of them as adversary. -
Need some advice how to survive ground attack missions, please
Winston DoRight replied to vonOben's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
ONE pass only, from low altitude. Get out quickly and take stock of your condition. If you're damage is light count your blessings, claw for altitude and head for home. -
Questions about fuel
Winston DoRight replied to Check Six's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
As you press your START button in all CFS3 expansions the mixture is automatically set at full rich, as it should be for proper engine startup. No mixture adjusting is necessary as the temperature of the engine changes. As altitude increases you must LEAN your mixture. If you don't you cannot get full power. As you decend you must richen or the engine may starve and die. This is modeled quite well in CFS3 No, small changes in altitude can be ignored when combat give you other things to do. But if your opponent dives for the deck, you better richen your mixture as you follow or your engine will cut out on you when you need it the most! The SOUND your engine makes as you lean/richen the mixture is the key here. Try this test: After starting your engine, gradually lean the mixture until the engine begins to loose rpm (sputter). Going much farther will shut down the engine. When your engine just begins to sputter, richen the mixture by just a few presses. You are now at optimal mixture for the current altitude (verify this with tachometer if equipped). As you climb you can lean it even more, just remember to richen it as you decend. Flying inverted problems were not solved in WW1 with inline carburated engines although by wars end several aircraft had automatic mixture control devices. Positive "G" had to be maintained when upside down to keep the fuel flowing. Inverted maneuvers were brief, with positive G's and performed infrequenty by inexperience pilots. A good example; In the new "The Red Baron" movie, while flying an Albatros, Richtofen needed to get the attention of his flight members. He abruptly nosed over his Alby and it coughed and backfired loudly when the negative G's momentarily interrupted the flow of fuel. After awhile managing your mixture will become a sixth sense. You'll do it automatically and without really thinking especially if you have an "axis" or a programmable rotary knob on your controller(s) to assign to the mixture to replace the keyboard strokes. -
Is HITR expansion DL copy protected?
Winston DoRight replied to Over50's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I backed up my HitR executable to a DVD and reinstalled it later with no problems. I didn't run it from the DVD though, I first copied it to my hard drive and ran it from there.
