  1. Jasta 37, Foucaucourt-en-Santerre, late April 1918. We are based in the front line bulge caused by the last big German offensive, "Operation Michael". Yes, flying with all those black Albatros has a sombre, sinister touch - reminds me of that book title: "Death is a Master from Deutschland". Shudder! Maybe we need that for our own reassurance though - most of us know we can't win it anymore.
  2. For my ATI 4870, I can say, that the new driver 11.5 works fine.
  3. Yes, Herr Prop-Wasche is working on the FM (flight model) and DM (damage model) for several planes. He asked me to testfly the Albatros versions, which I am doing right now. So far I have only tried out the Albatros D.Va, and I must say, that he did an excellent job on it! I had complained, that the craft was powerless far below it's service ceiling already. Now he has found a way, which keeps the impression of heavyness (heavy on the controls), but eliminates the weakness at higher altitudes. The craft felt absolutely true - a heavy fighter with a 185 PS engine, as it should be! When HPW has these models finished, he will make them available for all to download.
  4. Your thread title is a bit irritating, Duke, as GAS (German Air Service) is an English shortage, but I'm glad I checked what it is about. A great find - thank you for posting! Some of those pictures, which were kept by the Richthofen family, I had never seen before. There is confirmation for you JFM - the family also says it's Roucourt in that picture.
  5. That's why I mostly start my new campaigns at the beginning of May. I like good weather!
  6. I didn't want to copy an existing plane, elephant. I just hadn't seen any pics of "Number 9" and thought it wasn't photographed. So I used it for myself. Do you know, which number wasn't used and is therefor free for me?
  7. I have always been flying with skins on "normal resolution", because damage isn't shown in "high resolution". But testing Herr Prop-Wasche's new FM for the Albatros, I though I should try out, how my new Jasta 37 skin would look on "high res". And I must say, it DOES make quite a difference! I wonder, if any of you guys tried it, or are even flying "high-res" more often?
  8. Flying defensive patrol over our airfield at Fouilloy, which is neighbouring to Cachy, we got attacked by several high flying S.E.5a. All the training we had absolved for such situations payed well now. While Jasta 37 lost one Albatros, the Tommies saw 4 S.E.5 going down in flames.
  9. LIMA, since I recently updated my rig I don't have any stutters anymore. But I didn't upgrade the graphics - I still use the same HD4870 card. What really brought the improvement must have been the faster Intel i5 QuadCore CPU.
  10. Thank you, Shiloh - I liked the very sinister appearance of late Jasta 37, made me a black Albatros, added the "9" (many of them had such numbers at the front), and the German colours from anther skin by Paarma, and ready was the dark craft. Did you know, that Böhme wanted to shoot himself after landing that day? It was Manfred von Richthofen, who held him back. Boelcke was their great mentor - without Boelcke Jasta 11 would perhaps not have been what it was. They all learned so much from him.; his death was a great loss for the German fighters.
  11. Good one, Parky - insisting blondeness!
  12. This is a nice shot and aircraft, Widowmaker! Good to see you flying again!
  13. Reason No. 1 for me to lose a pilot is collision. I just had a sortie with my 1918 Jasta 37 pilot, who is not one of my "serious" flyers. Still though, I try not to do any careless or too extreme flying. Now, when I was chasing a Camel, I could have found my end despite all care though. RL ace Ernst Hamster decided to chase the same craft, and as the Camel was hampered already, he performed barrel rolls to reduce his forward speed. That way, he must have seen me in the last second. We had almost collided. A real close shave that was. .
  14. Yer right there, flyby - they should reduce the show-part in the word Airshow to just showing us the plane flying. Now that there are no real Mosquitos anymore, here are the CGI generated ones again, with the Rolls Royce sound. I know I posted it twice, but it's so quiet in here - let's make some noise! Short, but shu-weet! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNJ8rIEPLOo
  15. Hasse Wind, the higher settings don't add clouds. They make the bitmaps (or whatever format the clouds are made of) simply finer/higher resolution. I have mine on 5, and they appear more soft; not so pixelated. The Anti-Aliasing of my ATI card may also help there. Yesterday I switched over to "high resolution skins" to test some, and I could swear, the clouds appeared even more soft. But that maybe a trick of the mind.
  16. I wouldn't go so far as to say, these old birds shouldn't fly no more. But they would have to be owned and serviced by some people who have the monitary and technical resources and knowledge to keep these birds in perfect conditions. The Bf109 owned and restored by MBB (Messerschmidt-Bölkow-Blohm) got all this. Still though it crahsed twice. This was due to her tricky start and landing behaviours. Her powerful engine and prop cause a spiral airflow, which needs to get parried with good right rudder. So, these old birds also need very good pilots - pilots who know the not always very modern-style behaviour of their warbirds.
  17. The guys maybe right about the card. But you could try one thing: set the slider "Scenery detail" to "2"; and then try the cloud slider on "4" or even "5". It may sound paradox, but I have read from several people, that the performance improved, when the clouds were pushed UP. Worth a try, I think.
  18. Indeed, shredder, indeed.
  19. Ah, I see - I underestimated your sense for business, Flyby. Sorry - great website! The OFF stuff I do at my workplace - the computer - is skinning. I will soon present some generic Albatros skins for everyone's use.
  20. Wow - did you do the capital of the column yourself, Flyby? Boy, you don't need the hope that someone walks by accidently - you need a website for your stuff! The rich guy you hope for won't walk. But he may be browsing websites in search of something he can spend his money on! So find yourself a person who can do that. Nowadays, even scholars can do this, for little money.
  21. Don't you talk him into that, Pol!
  22. When OFF addiction becomes a problem... !
  23. Teasing is the only fun you devels know besides all that work, eyh?!?
  24. It may become a new sim all together. I still remember the giant step from P2 to P3.
  25. ... and the song in full length - I love this tune! Oh, swinging sixties, oh psychedelic sixties! ...
