  1. Hmmm... - I'm not a big banana fan, but I'll post anyway, just for the sake of this fine place.
  2. Widowmaker, I miss you too, my grumpy friend - you were one of the first users I noticed, when you had a ranting, which ended with "Woff, woff!" How's your border collie? This is a persistent misbelief about the D.V, Hauksbee, and it seems that even the OBD devs fell for it. I just re-read Arthur Gould Lee's book "No Parachute", and there he wrote, that the Naval Sopwith Triplanes did not fear the Albatros D.III too much, but they said that the Albatros D.V was all over them, and they urgently wanted the new Sopwith Camel (yet in development) as soon as possible. This clearly shows that the D.V WAS better than the D.III. But when the SPAD, the S.E.5a and the Sopwith Camel appeared in larger numbers - by then it was of not much use anymore. The Entente planes were just so much faster, stronger and better at climbing. At this time MvR complained about this new Albatros being "of no use against the latest enemy fighters".
  3. Same here - checking every few days. And yes, why not have two places going? Combat Ace is definitely the place with all mod cons.
  4. I like RoF for flying online against other human flyers - but for single-flyers WOFF definitely offers the most immersive campaigns, a huge load of historical content, and the full Western front.

  6. Whales? We had whales in BHaH? (Mmuahahahahaaa!!!)
  7. Good point, Jim - the maps are too big for a thread at SimHQ, I think. Here, it is easy-peasy to maintain them, exchange old ones for new etc. This place allows technically more than the other, as I said already.
  8. You make up strong points for, as well as against keeping this place up, Hellshade, and I agree very much with the "pro" (and want to say it here again, that I like the technical and comfort side of this place better than the other's; and that I was always happy with the service of the site/forum makers here - it was just VERY bad luck that Eric got so ill back then). I admit that the "con" has some good logic. But I'm with the others - this place should remain the OFF place. There are so many user-made uploads here, like skins. And then there may still be many OFFers, who haven't become WOFFers yet, for whatever reason. And I'm with Jim - WOFF attracts the kind of user who invests some searching time and brain. When I came to OFF in October 2008, I had made a search for a "WW1 air combat sim" - and found it.
  9. Oh dear - I had no idea that TV was SO dangerous...?
  10. Mmuahahahahaaa!!!
  11. The place of birth can be treated by WOFF as just a written entry; here WOFF can use any characters. The pilot name though must be implemented in the WOFF Manager, and there it must be "script-save", which means: no special characters like umlauts. LIMA, I wonder if that Göring quote is true or propaganda. After all, it was an idea by the British industries, to write "Made in Germany" on all "Hun" products - it was meant to be a hint to turn people off buying them. Now, how can it be that it became a trademark for quality instead?
  12. I own both RoF and WOFF, but I use RoF only for online MP flying. WOFF is the top choice if you should be searching for the most immersive WW1 air combat single-player campaigns. It's alive, while most other sims are somehow without a soul.
  13. WOFF is a much improved new sim, Rodster. Seeing that the had given Phase 1 and 2 to the public for free, and sold only Phase 3 called OFF, I think it was about time that they received some money back for all their work. And WOFF is definitely worth it.

  16. In pic 3 you can see a crew meber on the right outer wing. Not sure if they had rubber boats, or maybe they were close to the coast? Perhaps someone else knows more.
  17. The "Wingnut Wings" website is not only a place to buy great WW1 aircrat models - they also show a rich archive of great WW1 photographs, which is getting updated quite frequently. http://www.wingnutwings.com/ww/photogallery?cat=1 Among the new images there are these photos from an attack on a Felixstowe seaplane, made by a flight of Hansa-Brandenburg W.29, end of July 1918.

  22. You made a typo in the title, Hauksbee - his name was "Sablatnig".

  24. Welcome back to simming, sixstrings! I missed OFF 1 and came to OFF Phase 2 in October 2008, short before "OFF - Between Heaven and Hell" came out. It was a great step forward, and WOFF was such a great step again. With the new shaders it is a "whopper" now! But careful, it will also be harder to survive, when you use full realism settings - the AI can be really tricky. All official WOFF stuff was moved to SimHQ; check there also: http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/forums/372/1/Wings_Over_Flanders_Fields
