  1. Need help with graphics

The site in development is currently here, if anyone wants to check it out. Lou's made a huge difference already, but it's still a work in progress. So feedback welcome, as are reviews of OFFice/OFFbase/OFFworld if anyone's itching to contribute such. Also, would be willing to consider trading membership in OFFworld for hosting the site...
  2. Need help with graphics

Great Lou, I'll send you a PM shortly.
  3. Need help with graphics

Thanks, HumanDrone. If a WOFF falls in a forum and no one's around to hear it... Best way anyone can help my efforts to keep the community alive would be to join OFFworld. Even if you don't have time to play much these days but just wanna say thanks for OFFice and OFFbase and all my other mods and programs. And if you can find time to play, it truly is the most fun you've had with OFF in years. In any case, I really could use the support. Forgot to mention, free membership to OFFworld for the person who can contribute website graphics. Mostly need help making graphical buttons for the various pages, OFFice, OFFbase, OFFworld, and a few others. Same style as this would be awesome: (Siggi's? button from the old DiD site) But any consistent WW1-ish style would be nice.
  4. Hey folks. Version 1.0.8 of the OFFice incomparable campaign engine for OFF is now available at Combat Ace! Here's the full change-log: OFFworlders can play their Injured characters for encounters in the Infirmary, interacting with visitors, other patients, and of course the doc. Duty roster now shows claims as well as kills. Fixed 1.0.5 bug updating kill tally on duty roster--should sort itself out after your next mission. By default now disables promotions by OFF Manager in exchange for extra OFFbase Prestige from completing missions, based on your pilot's Aerial Skill and Professionalism. If you prefer the old system of rapid promotions from OFF Manager, you can disable this on the OFFbase page in OFFramp. OFFice includes the custom skin pack 'Skin in the Game' with historical skins by Bullethead, nbryant, Olham, RAF_Louvert, Robert_Wiggins, and UK_Widowmaker. Made a historically-appropriate campaign aircraft skin you think should be included? Contact Lothar of the Hill People at Combat Ace or SimHQ. Still working on posting a smaller update for just the software, but to make sure you get the skin pack and Olham's airfield imagery from 1.0.7, just download the whole thing. If you're interested in joining and supporting OFFworld, the multiplayer version in development, send me a PM.
  5. OFFice 1.0.8 with OFFworld now available!

HPW doesn't seem to be around these days, but can you confirm which version of his EW mod you have installed? Look inside your JSGME mods folder, an in the "HPW FM and EW Campaign Mod" folder there should be a file with the .vers extension. Open this in notepad or something and it'll tell you the version number and date. May end up just removing the DH2 and EIII from the mod.
  6. Embodiment of WOFF?

Is that one of the skins included with OFFice in the 'Skin in the Game' pack?
  7. Where do all the AI go?

Well, a major goal of my OFFice project was to bring all the mods together, sorting out incompatibilities between them and enhancing their features (the versions included in OFFice are often greatly enhanced over the stand-alone versions). The downloads section of CA (when up) is a bit of a nightmare with multiple incompatible versions of everything scattered all about. With OFFice, everything just works, and you have your choice of mods where appropriate (which damage model, flight model, even musical score, for example), with all the documentation on the mods right there to help you choose, in a nice graphical interface, making it easy to try different things without worrying about breaking anything. And it fixes a whole mess of bugs and other issues in BHaH/HitR that OBD's never gotten around to, while adding a vast array of other features, some unavailable in any other flight sim. As for multiplayer capability, mods do introduce more mismatching issues, but having everything organized and controlled through my OFFramp mod manager and the underlying OFFice scripting engine, the mismatch problem can be solved once and for all. Support OFFworld, and let's see what we can do together as a community.
  8. Where do all the AI go?

It's the mods which correct for the weight of AI planes so you can keep up with them that cause them to have trouble taking off (the AI don't "know" they're heavier). Take-offs are not a problem with stock P3, hence Pol joking about mods breaking things.
  9. Where do all the AI go?

    Haha, something like that Robert!
  10. Where do all the AI go?

The latest version of HPW's EW mod included with OFFice does improve problems with crashing on takeoff, compared to prior versions, but not sure if the problem's resolved completely with all planes and all airfields. Crashing into the trees on takeoff is because the planes are modded to be realistically heavier but the crummy AI doesn't always handle them properly. At the same time, heavier planes should stop faster on landing, perhaps reducing crashes into the treres at this end of the flight. Haven't done any comparative testing myself, though.
  11. OFFworld: Persistent Online Campaigns for OFF/WOFF

While downloads at Combat Ace are still down, subscribers to OFFworld are still getting new features and bug fixes, including updates to supported mods--and some early results of sharing data with Patrick Wilson and his Campaign Generator for RoF. It's been busy lately in the 94th Aero, and it's time to open a second shared, persistent, online squadron. Thanks to Olham's suggestion, you can now join the Germany war effort with the elite Jasta 5: Thanks also to Olham for the Boistrancourt airfield photo, also available in single-player OFFbase (when the CA downloads return!). It's shown here in OFFworld with my own hand-coded sepia-tone filter. Join OFFworld today. Having real people in your squadron (or squadrons now) with whom to interact is amazingly fun, bringing OFF to life like never before. And at only $12 (secured via PayPal), it's probably a lot less than you've spent on extra planes and add-ons for something like RoF. Just send me a PM to get started.
  12. Where do all the AI go?

A tip for OFFworld/OFFbase: If your squadmen crash on takeoff or landing, when you report it to your Adjutant, check both the "Crashed" and "Landed" boxes. This'll use more generous rolls for the crash and injury for these situations where pilots and observers can more easily bail and medical attention is right there. Well, unless your squad's Medic is an incompetent boob, in which case they'd have better luck crashing behind enemy lines haha!
  13. OFFworld: Persistent Online Campaigns for OFF/WOFF

Glad you're enjoying OFFice, Mud! OFFworld Phase I integrates the DropBox file-sharing API, hosted by Amazon's S3 cloud computing storage. No online connection problems so far, only worried about how it scales with more players. So the more playing to help me test, the better!
  14. OFFworld: Persistent Online Campaigns for OFF/WOFF

The 94th's Adjutant first broke the news about Kaische's new Ace: But the squadron's Chaplain had an idea: Jennings doesn't feel too bad about his hospitalization now, but it's getting crowded in there! But room for more... just send me a PM to get started!
  15. OFFworld: Persistent Online Campaigns for OFF/WOFF

Just checked in to the 94th Aero's "Hat in the OFFworld" campaign, and Captain Lindsay told me the news: Kaische's Capt. Jennings with yet another kill. My Lt. Hill wanders in to the Mess, and sure enough guess who has to rub it in? Captain Jennings made Ace... Great hunting, Kaische! Want to join in on the fun? OFFworld Phase I is only $12. Send me a PM.
  16. OFFice 1.0.8 with OFFworld now available!

    Seems to be working now!
  17. OFFice 1.0.8 with OFFworld now available!

The download for 1.0.8 seems to be broken at the moment. Combat Ace has been having problems with large files since the site rebuild, but I just messaged Erik and hopefully he'll have it sorted soon. Stay tuned.
  18. OFF and SuperFetch.

Yes SuperFetch was created for hard disk technology. But how it works is actively harmful to the lifespan of SSDs. If you're running SuperFetch you ARE HURTING YOUR SSDs, with far more small write operations refragging the drives to optimize caching than writing to a pagefile. I've provided references before, but only the links you provide seem to matter to you. Here again from Microsoft support: The whole point of having gobs of RAM is to avoid using the pagefile completely. Virtual memory on an SSD is still vastly slower than real random access memory and the stuff cached in it. So go ahead, drop your machine down to 256MB of RAM and enjoy the wonderful performance of your SSD pagefile lol! SSDs are great if you can afford a full system based on them. But there are tradeoffs! I still assert many gamers will find adding RAM and using SuperFetch a more cost-effective upgrade for general system performance than mixing an SSD into a system with lots of traditional storage and disabling SuperFetch.
  19. OFF and SuperFetch.

Tamper, your strawman "arguments" and hostile attitude aren't winning many friends. Hellshade never said anything even remotely close to 'because person "A" cannot afford the benefit of something, that no one else can enjoy that benefit'. Under no reading of his "law" does such a conclusion follow. You've done this kind of thing repeatedly to my arguments as well. That's not "sarcasm," just rude. The improved lifespan of SSDs comes from technology that distributes access evenly across all the flash memory cells, so no one cell is abused more than others. This maximizes the time before any one cell fails, and this the time until the entire drive fails. It's like laying down on a bed of nails, distributing your body weight evenly so no single nail impales you. This is why SuperFetch should be disabled when you use SSDs: the caching algorithm refragments how data is stored in a way that shortens the lifespan of SSDs. Not because SuperFetch becomes "pointless"--another example of you misconstruing someone else's argument. Because of this, in fact, adding a 30GB SSD to a machine with a lot of RAM can be a bad idea. Sure you end up speeding up the few things you can fit on that tiny drive, but at the cost of slowing everything else down. By disabling SuperFetch, your RAM is no longer used to precache all the stuff that's still read off your traditional hard drives. There are tradeoffs here. The best solution for you isn't the best solution for everyone else. But why am I even arguing with people on the internet?
  20. OFFworld: Persistent Online Campaigns for OFF/WOFF

Update: hehe. This really is fun.
  21. OFFworld: Persistent Online Campaigns for OFF/WOFF

Anyone care to join my 1st Lieutenant Luther Hill and the others in the 94th Aero's Mess Hall? Plenty to do between flights (though I'm just teasing Kaische!): Missions are flown in the same persistent campaign, what happens to you and your wingmen affects the development of the shared squadron. At this rate Kaische's Captain Jennings will be an Ace before me! Of course, I see that not all of his pilots are so lucky. I can visit the fellow Jennings replaced in hospital: Looks like this character'll be out for a few weeks yet: But you and your fellow squadmates can help injured fellows heal with support, both moral and otherwise: Already missions are more consequential, and thus more gripping and engaging, than ever. With your support, OFFworld can eventually feature full multiplayer combat missions in the same persistent online war. Just imagine if we were about to set off together to escort a squadron of human bombers... for a major multiplayer assault against a target protected by squads of human and AI Germans! So join the brave men of the 94th Aero, where Lt. Colonel Cullen is a master of arms and the violin. Or suggest a squadron for an OFFworld German campaign. Just send me a PM to get started. Help bring life back to the OFF community, and you'll have more fun flying than you have in ages!
  22. OFFworld: Persistent Online Campaigns for OFF/WOFF

It should, Lewie, but it's been a while since I've been able to test it. Install OFFice 1.0.6 and the 1.0.7 update and give it a try. Run into problems, let me know.
  23. Seeking advice from my OFF brethren.

Yep, you can always add a second drive later, though setting up RAID in the future may require a full system reinstall.
  24. OFF and SuperFetch.

No one has said that, Tamper (and I presume you mean for less cost). The advice is valuable for those who want a low-cost way to get rid of most stuttering. And it may even be free for people who have lots of RAM already but disabled SuperFetch in the past thanks to truly bad advice. There are tradeoffs, and your solution isn't the best solution for everybody. Even if you have an SSD, SuperFetch and lots of RAM would not be useless for caching all the stuff not on your SSD. Since SSDs are so much more expensive than traditional hard drives. While RAM is still much more expensive than SSDs per GB, its speed means smart caching can make a bit more RAM go a long way. Nothing is faster than RAM for throughput, so the more space to cache the better. In an ideal world, we'd have as much fast RAM to mirror our cheap storage, and cache the whole thing for instant access with no need at all for hybrid tech like SSD. If you dropped your RAM down to 256MB and relied on your SSD for virtual memory, I don't think you'd be that impressed with its speed any longer. Don't think Microsoft ever used the word "pointless", as the only reason you should disable SuperFetch with an SSD in your system is because the caching algorithm refragments drives to optimize loading most frequently used stuff into RAM, and this reshuffling of data is bad for SSDs because they have a limited number of lifetime write operations.
  25. OFF and SuperFetch.

My experience as well, hood. If your playing habits are fairly predicable, and you keep your machine running, SuperFetch will be even more ready when you launch OFF and hopefully get reduce those initial stutters further. Maybe not as perfect and dramatic a solution as a pair of SSDs in RAID, but certainly much cheaper.
