  1. Anybody else using an eyefinity setup?

This guy is eating crumpets and hay for the rest of the war so I have declassified some of his widescreen shots! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v725/l88bastard/Shot12-04-09-18-17-39.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v725/l88bastard/Shot12-04-09-18-19-01.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v725/l88bastard/Shot12-04-09-18-23-12.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v725/l88bastard/Shot12-04-09-18-23-26.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v725/l88bastard/Shot12-04-09-18-28-47.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v725/l88bastard/Shot12-04-09-18-29-51.jpg

    Something like this
  3. Anybody else using an eyefinity setup?

OMG you poor SWAMBO bastards! I can understand SWAMBO if the children need braces, or the car needs a/c, or if money is really really tight. HOWEVER, if you have the money for a toy that makes you happy and all of the bills are paid and the kids are well fed, and SWAMBO gets those new pair of shoes every month, then what is the problem? My God man, my woman does not swambo me and she is beautiful! Lol shes actually the one that encouraged me to step out of my IL2 box and get OFF! SWAMBO should be happy that you are sitting at home playing the computer where she can monitor your activities instead of you going out, doing God knows what, God knows where at all hours of the night! Besides how would swambo notice something like this!

Well you live in blissful ignorance and that is perfectly alright! But gaming is a hobby for me, I enjoy building my own computers and tinkering with them. I don't throw money away at strip clubs and bars, nor do I smoke, so not having those vices allows me to have this vice! If you were to play on a triple screen setup you would probably throw your computer out the window and then proceed to max out your credit card at your favorite computer electronics retailer.
  5. Anybody else using an eyefinity setup?

Eyefinity is definitely the way to go because SoftTH is not as optomized, however, SoftTH is the cheaper way to go because you don't have to have the latest and greatest ATI 5000 series card. SoftTH is a good staging ground for people to see if three screen gaming is for them without breaking the bank. Unfortunately there were no performance gains between a 5970 and a 5870 because OFF does not appear to support multi GPU crossfire gaming, so only one GPU works. I am getting better performance with my 5970 because I overclocked it faster than stock 5870 speeds, however, you can overclock a 5870 higher! If you only play IL2 and OFF then I would only recommend a 5870 because both of those games do not appear to support crossfire. I WISH WISH WISH WISH OFF supported CROSSFIRE! I have two 30" 2560x1600 monitors sitting on the floor and instead of buying a third one for eyefinity I am going to sell them both because it is just too many pixels for one gpu to push with the settings I want. Its a shame because I have a 5970 and a 5870 and I would love to crossfire all three of them with OFF on three 30" monitors!
  6. Anybody else using an eyefinity setup?

Here is a video I made of a 40 man dogfight, I was gettin 45-60fps with my new 5970!! The second video i was just messin around trying to show off the ground detail. Sorry about the picture quality, I recorded it with my cell phone, but you can get the gist of it....kinda not really lol also I was flying with my left hand and filming with my right...i am right handed so it was a bit of a disaster! I will record better sources if anybody has any advice on how to do that, fraps maybe?
  7. Anybody else using an eyefinity setup?

The first photo is of my eyefinity setup. Eyefinity is available with the new 5000 series of ATI graphics cards as they all have two dvi outs and one displayport out. You can run three screens off of one 5000 series card! The only caveat is you need three monitors set in the same resolution. You can use different size monitors but they all have to be set at the same resolution. My eyefinity setup is three dell 2007fp 20.1 monitors at 4800x1200 resolution and I am getting 30-60 fps with everything set to 4 except for plane detail at 5! You can find the 2007s on ebay for $100-$150 so it is not too expensive and they are IPS panels to boot!! The second photo is when I take my 30" 2560x1600 out and rotate two of my 20.1"s in portrait mode. The only thing that will allow you to use three monitors with different resolutions is SoftTH. I have posted a detailed way to make softTH work with OFF over at widescreen gaming forum. The thread for that is here: http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=17276 If you dont have a 5000 series of ati card you will need two graphics cards to make SoftTH work, but the second GFX card does not have to be the same as the first and it does not even need to be very powerful either. Here is SoftTHs page: http://www.kegetys.net/SoftTH/
  8. Anyone use an HD TV as a monitor?

    Mines 120" ;) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v725/l88bastard/091920096389.jpg
  9. TrackIr is fantastic!

Track IR is amazing, now you need to get yourself another two monitors and Eyefinity or SoftTH and come to the three screen party! I am running three 20"s at a total resolution of 4800x1200 with a XFX 5870 and all the settings are on 4, except for aircraft on 5 and I am getting 40fps on average! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v725/l88bastard/120120098500.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v725/l88bastard/120120098501.jpg
  10. I made this for IL2 Storm of War, feel free to use it if you want, lol
  11. Hello gals and gents, Well I have been playing this game on my XFX 5870 and it runs very nice (everything set to 5) at 2560x1600 and I have even been able to use SoftTH and play with good frame rates at 4960x1600 (everything set to 3, except aircraft at 5), so I stepped it up last week and purchased a Sapphire 5970 and I got nearly the same frame rates with that as I did with the 5870 :( I was actually getting slightly less frames with the 5970 as it is downclocked lower than the 5870, however, that should not be a factor as it has TWO GPUS in it versus the 5870s one gpu! So what gives, when I had my 8800 ultras in SLI there was a huge improvement in FPS versus only one card. Does ati crossfire just flat out suck with this game or is there something I was doing wrong? For the record, I had the latest drivers installed... but I would also like to add that due to a defective fan and major screen artifacting/distortion, I ended up RMAing the 5970 so I don't have it to test right now. However, I am considering telling them to just refund my money if OFF does not support crossfire.
  12. Is Crossfire supported at all?

well I am running at a resolution of 4960x1600 and I would like to be able to take advantage of my TriFire 5870 + 5970 setup to play OFF with Hi settings at this massive resolution. As it is I can only run with settings set to 2s and 3's, and I wish my favorite game could take advantage of all this power. Here is what multi screen gaming brings to the table: And here are my cards
  13. So after loosing my flyboy that had over 24 hours of flying time, 21 confirmed, the blue max, and all of the broads and booze available within all of flanders... I decided to switch to easy and see how that went, and you know it actually sucks! It takes all of the tension and nerves out of playing, I was actually in a dogfight with a pup and he pissed me off so I said screw it and purposely rammed him cause I knew there would be no consequences...im actually bored with the game like this, so back to DID I go! So what is our obsession with playing and investing hours and hours of time into something that is destined to die and die soon, lol? 24 hours and all I got is a shoe box full of medals that sometimes dissapear and fading memories as I continue to fill the DID graves next to Hornswagge Von DiamondWulf with his cousins of lessor glory!
  14. Lone Wolf

I usually get one after I did really bad on a mission! I usually lone wolf it anyway when they try to assign me the suicide missions deep into enemy territory. Usually I will just find a nice set of FE2s, Be2cs or N17s and exhaust my ammo and then take it home...my DIDs a premadonna lol.
  15. Selling my CH gear

Hi Guys & Gals, I'm selling my CH gear; Fighterstick, throttle, & pedals on Ebay for $75.00 apiece. All three are USB! I'm sorry if this is not allowed to be posted here on the forums, but I figured it is ok since they are very relevant to what we do here and maybe there are a few members out here looking to pick up that last component to finish off their HOTAS setup, but don't wanna pay retail. Given the limited amount of space that I have, I can't setup my hotas properly (I want to build a cockpit eventually, but I need a house for that) so I am using my xbox 360s ace edge to pull double duty with IL2 Sturmovik, OFF and and birds of prey on the 360 so I am not without a hotas setup after I let these go. The components are in excellent condition and I have had them for almost a year. Please let me know if you have any questions, and sorry if this is not allowed to be posted here. 16. Pedals

Yes and stay away from the CH pedals as they suck! Yea they are built like a tank and can take a ton of abuse, but they are clumsy, too close together, and just totally feel unnatural. I have never tried the Saiteks but I hear they are great. I am currently using the logitec g940 system and love it!
  17. Selling my CH gear

    Sold on ebay for $102.50
  18. CH Products Announces Military Grade Controllers

very good news indeed, a10 tank killer, red baron and aces over the pacific stole half of my childhood lol
  19. Joysticks...

This^^^^^^ I have the G940 and it is amazing, sold my CH sticks the minute I got my G940 and do not miss them one bit!
  20. I know that this really isnt an OFF problem, but my OFF gaming is now suffering as a result... maybe the collective minds can help me on this one. Ok, I just got the 5870 today and I love it. Here is a sexy screen shot of it posing in the nude with my old 8800 ultras. And after installing it and playing with it for a while, I have packed up the ultras and put em on ebay. Apparently I am an ATI man now, and I am getting almost double the FPS in my favorite game, "Over Flanders Fields," at 2560x1600... went from 5-15fps to 25-40fps with all of the eye candy turned up! 5s on everything!!! Unfortunately, I have a problem. Since Eyefinity does not support my PLP 20x30x20 =4960x1600 setup, I figured that I would just use SoftTH and enjoy the power of the 5870 with my setup. I had no problem gettin SoftTH to work with my 8800 ultras, however, it does not work with my 5870. I even went out and bought a crappy 4670 to use as a second card but I get the same exact result with the second card as I do when I just push out all three displays from the 5870! It will not let me set my resolution in the CFS3Config file and hard locks my computer when I try and fly a mission. Im running Vista ultimate 64, and a 20x30x20 =4960x1600 display setup. I specifically play over flanders fields and it will not let me open the cfs3config file at all to set my resolution. It let me open the file prior to adding the SoftTH files, but once I got those files in the directory it does not bring it up. What is supposed to happen is CFS3config will open and let you change your resolution, but I cannot get to that step with the 5870 like I was able to with the ultras. Can anybody help me? Has anybody got SoftTH to work with a 5870?
  21. SoftTH problems with a 5870 :(

I got it working. Basically I had to stick with beta 1.7 and had to add the 2560x1600 resolution at the bottom of the list and then put auto after it. Then I had to subtract the difference of 2560-1200 and make that negative adjustment so sideExtraWidth=-1360. Then I told it to half the display of the side monitors to 600x800, which surprisingly gives a decent quality while keeping the main at 2560x1600. With these settings I'm able to run at 5,4,4,4,4 and get 35fps on average for 4960x1600 running on a single 5870! 22. SoftTH problems with a 5870 :(

Some progress has been made here. I have found that the 1.7 version works but not too well (versions 1.9 & 1.8 dont work at all). For some reason it only recognizes my 2560x1600 monitor as being 1600x1200 and it forces my 1200x1600 monitors to a 1200x1200 resolution. Instead of giving me 4960x1600 + 300 for borders = 5260x1600 resolution option it only allows me these choices: And here is how crappy the 5100x1200 option looks... its all distorted :(
  23. SoftTH problems with a 5870 :(

lOOK I know all about the terrian lol. If I get tripple screen working I am aware that I will have to dock that down to 4 or 3, because 4960x1600 is an insane resolution. HOWEVER, I can leave it at 5 while I play at 2560x1600 resolution because the 5870 actually is quite the beast.
  24. SoftTH problems with a 5870 :(

No, I really don't need the ultras anymore. Its time to sell em, regardles of whether they support SoftTH or not versus the new ati card, I don't need em anymore. They are great cards, but the 90nm tech just runs too hot for me and the 5870 is really more powerful than both of em put together. Besides, this is the final point for the Ultras as there is still a market for them now, but come another year from now, they will be completely worthless. So I sell em now and recoup some of my upgrading money, while I can. I am planning on getting a 5870x2 when it comes out (supposed to be this month) and then running it in Trifire with my 5870. My plan is to continue on with my watercooling from my processor and watercool the cards as well! I have a q9650 and a quadfire capable mobo on the way, should get here Monday. I am planning on pushing the q9650 to 4ghz a core on water. Im aware that I will have to move sliders down if I get SoftTh working, thats fine. With the Ultra I had to move everything except planes to 2, which sucked and even with both ultras in SLI, I could not go over 3 for terrain and the other one. The 5870 is an exceptional card. It reminds me of the 9700pro days! I have tried to do the config in the workshop and also in windows explorer and no dice. When I try in workshop nothing happens it just stays in the workshop, when I try in windows explorer it comes up with the hourglass (which shows loading) and then the hourglass dissapears and then nothing! I looked over the ATI link you put up, but honestly when I ran on my single display, I had none of those problems! Thanks for your help! And please get some sleep, we need you fresh for your next sortie!
