  1. Wow that's exactly what i'm doing, really weird. In fact it doesn't matter whether I choose 800x600 in the global settings or 1280x1024, it all looks the same. Maybe this might help some. I'm using a 9800GTX+ with the latest Windows XP drivers. FastCargo can you take a screenshot on the runway from the first training mission? I'd like to compare it to mine.
  2. Wow mine looks nothing like that. I don't know what i'm doing wrong and i'm patched to v1.17f and i'm using the same Glidewrapper 0.84c I tried Global settings and application specific override and it looks a little bit better but nothing close to the screenshot posted. Any idea what i'm doing wrong?
  3. Hey fellas I broke out my old copy of F-15. It runs only in 800x600 which was the standard res back when it was released IIRC. Anyways I tried a few Glide Wrappers and while it looks slightly better it still runs in the default rez. Any suggestions? p.s. If I can get this to work i' like to hunt down a copy of Longbow 2, and Jane's F-18. :)
  4. Thanks Cali for the generous offer. I still have a few left but when I run out i'll surely give you a call.
  5. Maybe you can ask them for me.
  6. I'm glad it worked out for you Cali, but my dealings with ED via email have always received the response "the activations/deactivations we gave you" should last a real long time. If you have a good reason and it's on a case by case basis we'll give you another key. If it were like rFactor where you call or email Trymedia and ask for an activation refill on an unlimited basis then there would be no worries here. That's not how ED presents itself wrt activation refills.
  7. Thanks BirdDog what you said worked. OFF BH&H looks awesome now.
  8. I installed the game yesterday for the first time using the 9800GTX+, I recently purchased and the game looks beautiful.
  9. Thanks BirdDog. I'm off to try it out. I now realize that I did everything up to #2 correctly. i didn't know that the other options appear after that.
  10. OK i figured out answer to#1. I inadvertently pressed the Q key and didn't realize it thereby turning off the sound. As far as the answer to the 2nd question. I went into Workshop. There are several options: * Setup the Sim Display * Resolution, AA and graphical * Detail Sliders: Press button If I press the first two choices I get a box that says Exists: C:\Users\Rodster\Appdata\Roaming\Microsoft\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields If I click on the Graphics Config box it brings up CFS3 configuration. Is that what I should expect or do I need to go into Appdata and make my changes there?
  11. 1) How do I select the display resolution in OFF P3? 2) I hear menu music and audio during the intro films but I don't have any audio during flight. Is there a setting for this?
  12. nvm, I solved the problem.
  13. Hi everyone, I just got around to installing CFS3 and OFF P3. I used the CD version I recently purchased while I await Von's copy as the basis for the original files. I installed CFS3 which is the 3.1 version. I further updated the game to 3.1a I started CFS3 and setup my graphics config and exited the program. I now was ready to install OFF P3. I placed the OFF DVD in DVD drive #1 and Disk #1 of CFS3 in DVD drive #2. I proceeded with the install by right clicking on the OFF P3 executable and running it in Admin mode. During the install I was prompted for CFS3 disk 1 which was already in one of my DVD drives. After the installation was complete I ran the latest Superpatch (Patch12Vpt32Superpatch.exe) and followed it with the 1.32 mini patch. I was ready to try OFF and was greeted with the following message: Component "wmp.dll" or one of it's dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid. And that's where I am presently. Any ideas what I have missed or done wrong? p.s. I got this same message before and after the patch.
  14. Yeah that's the only thing I really liked about Windows Vista. When I recently installed Windows 7 on my computer it found 100% of my drivers including the display drivers for my ATI 4670.
  15. Thanks everyone for the replies. My 9800GTX+ should arrive on Monday, now i'm looking forward to it. Maybe my original problem running CFS3 which was a couple of years ago was due to older nvidia drivers. I'll be using the latest Windows 7 WHQL nvidia drivers. I'll let you lot know how it goes.
  16. Thanks mate, yeah I thought that would be the case regarding the 9800GTX. Yeah I agree that the 4670 is basically a jack of all trades video card. The GTX 295 is a beast but it's still based on older technology. If nvidia had released a DX11 card I would have gone with that but sadly it's not available. The 9800GTX+ cost me $135 from Newegg with free shipping. Prior to my ATI 4670 purchase I had the 7900GTO which was nice and lasted me 2 years but showed it's age with newer games I wanted to play and it was based on 128 bit interface whereas the 9800GTX+ is 256 bit interface. I think it should hold me over until nvidia releases their DX 11 cards and the prices come down a bit.
  17. I had an nvidia 7900 graphics card and all the Microsoft combat flight sims looked terrible texture wise. I recently purchased an ATI 4670 which i'm kind of disappointed with the performance/drivers so i'm now considering an nvidia 9800 GTX to hold me over until nvidia releases it's DX11 GPU's. If you are playing CFS3 and OFF P3 with great looking graphics please let me know? I remember reading that Microsoft has compatibility issues with some of it's games that run on an nvidia card (texture issues) whereas it works fine on an ATI card.
  18. Thanks everyone for all your responses. It appears Windows 7 64 bit is the front runner as everyone's favorite. My concern is trying to run older games under 64 bit. I don't know if they'll work with my ATI 64 bit drivers. So I maybe forced to go with Windows 7 32but instead. p.s. As for not listing Vista. As a previous member eluded to, yeah I dod not list it because of it's perceived reputation. I personally thought the OS was garbage out of the gate even though it sure did look pretty. So it was love hate with Vista for me. I do admit it got a lot better with the subsequent patches but by that time I was eagerly anticipating Windows 7. Even though Windows 7 is built on Vista, Microsoft to their credit listened to it's customers and got sooooooo much right with the OS. I've been involved with computers since the early 80's and my favorite Microsoft OSes to date are MS-DOS 5.0, MS-DOS 6.22, Windows 95, Windows XP and now Windows 7. Oh and here are my specs my bad: E6750 CPU 250GB HDD, 400GB HDD and 500GB HDD 4 GB of RAM ATI 4670 1GB video ram 128 bit interface
  19. It was the same for me when I played Microsoft Flight Sim 4.0 on floppy disk and then I saw Flight Sim 5.0, the difference was HUGE.
  20. Have any of you tried running OFF 3 on both OSes and what was the result? Does OFF P3 run smoother in XP than 7 or is it the other way around?
  21. I'm with Pink Panther, i'm voting no with my dollars and just saying no, just like I did with Rise of Flight. This intrusive DRM is getting out of hand while the pirates are already playing the game with out DRM. Also there are many out there that occasionally like to do a clean install on their systems.
  22. I like how they ripped off the Microsoft Train and Flight Simulator fonts. The idea of operating a crane should be enough to warrant a 1.5 score

    OFF REVIEW

Fantastic review and thanks for the free science content.
  24. I'd be interested in one of those as well even though I just received my CDROM copy from Newegg.com, great timing (facepalm).
