Any new (or old) SF2 mods in the works?
EricJ replied to malibu43's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I feel you though, sometimes you just have to find something else to keep you going. I'm probably not going back to LOMAC after awhile, I feel my time is done with it, unless they release modding tools, then I'd go back, but I've flown everything in that sim and I'll be good for awhile myself. But pending what things go on, I may get back into the skies. Sure TW sims don't have everything it has, but it's a good enough game to fire up and drop some bombs -

Hear hear. Adapting stuff is generally just copying and pasting. Tweaks here and there for sure, but overall? It's harder just finding the stuff to put the data into than actually doing it. If you don't know the real world values, use the default ones... I do. But I agree. It's a time to break off and do other things. I haven't lost interest as much as Super Dave and FC, but there's only so much you can do, and want to do before you need to look at a few other things as well in life. Well okay, once I make 180 hours on my pilot, I'll rest a bit -
WOV: Want some music in your cockpit?
EricJ replied to Dogzero1's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Pretty much. I just use Windows Media Player. Sure sometimes it's not the best way to do things, but alleviates some of the problems described above. -

I'll second that, using the stock SF2V map is just boring... -

I've converted on my own a couple things, but Dave is busy elsewhere, so not sure myself. -
Noob Jet Jockey...bit of advice please?

Note that also if you're getting SF2, 331Killerbee's pack is good too, basically Bunyap's but setup for SF2... -

Now that you mention it... not much does go south of Vinh... Though if you go west and attack the NW bases you'll get some MiG/or whatever attention quite a bit. As for the west.. most of it is pretty easy, since most of the defenses are concentrated on the eastern portion of the map (least SAM/AAA-wise). You can run the mountains quite freely, only consideration is MiGs pulling CAP or sweeps. And in foggy weather of course the main concern is possibly running into a mountain. -
RAZBAM sale has started!

Spinners, rename the folder first, that of course allows you to put it in the Terrains folder. Rename the ini's according to your new name, and don't forget to rename the .HFD file the same, or it's going to look funky. I did that last year with the Black Sea terrain for a storyline that I never really finished.. but it is doable. -

I agree, I got all three before and liked them alot . The Korea terrain for modern use isn't much... but since it wasn't built for it's not surprising. Although after reading a couple Falcon 4 articles, made me kinda wish it was.. -
The Double D's

Nice piece of work Lt. Cater, though usually if I'm visiting Hanoi I go inbetween 1,2, and 5, sort of a NE to E flightpath and then inside the area. Same with egress, seems always my favorite route, and usually if you go nape of the earth you can avoid the SAMs, but may get hit with AAA but if you do it right you won't get hit at all, especially fast and low. Only problem with that is getting Red Air in that pocket, and you're pretty much screwed. Tight area and defenses around you... And the NW corner of the Line of Departure, up to the forest edge (for lack of a better term) allows you to fly in and either take a Bullpup or Maverick shot and allows you to quickly turn around and dive back, allowing the mountain to shield you from any SAM or triple-a, provided of course your target is in range. Plus it's a great egress in itself, head west and head for the mountains if you hit your target. Sure you got the airfield at your South, but overall... it's a great route for infiltration. I admit most of my tactics are more modern focused, and therefore my weaponry tactics vary, but with eburger68 redoing the Bullpups, may be worth a way to get in. Regardless though, excellent post! 9. The Finger (as per image below). Simple Eest to West depression just West of The Garden, if you need to skulk in and get a good shot in, say at the PT Dock area, the airbase just North of it, and it's a good radar blind spot from everything North and South of that position. Egressing West allows you to hit the mountains and try to dodge Red Air if you need to, without sticking your nose out in the water. After that you can go to Ubon, and a few others just SW-W of that entrance. Note it's a good solo tactic. -

Mission Type Summary Table
EricJ replied to eburger68's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Not too shabby, just for Strike missions Escort flights are assigned to the whim of the game engine. Sometimes you get them, sometimes you don't. I would say 50/50 but more like 60/40 in favor of getting an escort flight. CAS missions and SEAD... I would say roughly 50% of the attacking force has to be destroyed in order to get a success, or sometimes just three to four tanks/infantry unit and it'll give a success. TRANSPORT to me seems only usable and seen in Campaigns, AIR_ASSAULT? I don't think that's a valid setup for now. Maybe TK threw it in there and just forgot about it... -

I've actually developed a "Smokey SA-8" for testing purposes. Nothing conclusive, though if you do get hit, you just get the effect, much like the AA-11 I did. Only thing is if it hits you, I'm guessing game logic is a culprit since once it shoots at me, either hits or misses, it doesn't fire anymore. Not sure if the SF2E SA-8 is a one shot wonder or what... but it wasn't like I was dodging it either. Anyways, here's a screenie of me being hit by one: EDIT: I figured out the problem, it shoots at you pretty well, had to adapt it for the SA-8B and it fires as it should. Forgot about the upgrade issue. Anyways, it uses the same missile so if you get tagged, it just explodes, no damage. -

That's what I thought... I downloaded the "Summer" version and felt the same. Too bad Wrench is being an old geezer and not completing his one he posted last year, or earlier this year... -

That was one of my ideas JAT But I'm sure if you ask him he'll help you since I'm not real good with the ini portion, or at least the startup of the aircraft. -

I was considering that... is it good for modern setups? Or is it just a Korean War style setup, not really much going on there? ------------------------------------------------------ "What took you so long?" "Traffic"
