That's about how I feel about the movie. The acting was great, and me being oblivious to most of the technical aspects certainly helped (although there have been some points made about said aspects which are by the way very good points). I feel the same as you do about Norman I wasn't too sure about him. I think they had him there so we could connect to him because we the viewers were new to the crew like he was. It was interesting to watch him make that change from being passive to agressive. And the chow scene was a bit off for me; it was funny just a little and then just off. I think they could've did that better but I'm not going to be that guy who makes a great movie horrible because of one thing. It's just my opinion and even I don't care about it I do agree with Brain32 about it made war look like hell. It didn't glorify anything too much (like a video game would) I wonder though do they have movies about support roles that were in war. Cargo, troop transport, why not? I think it says a lot to take a unarmed vehicle into the heart of hell and try to make it back in one piece.

I can put together a nice little promo video if that kind of thing is acceptable if not ignore me and move along. If so can anyone do video capture of this? Just give me one maybe two good dog fights, straifing run, bombing run (with no screen counters or watermarks). That's the only way I know how to help. Other than wishing you my best.

I've thought about (a long time ago) an F-14 mixed with an F-117 or F-22 -
Just finished it. I don't know much about tanks to formulate an educated opinion on the technical aspects of the movie. It wasn't bad but I don't see me watching it again.

Skyviper replied to russouk2004's topic in Military and General Aviation
Saweet Russouk! I know you had to have some fun, I had some fun just watching. Reminds of a flight I took when I was 13. There is was (maybe still is) a program called Young Eagles. It got kids under 13 interested in aviation by brining them on board a plane and taking them a flight. So at the age of 13 I flew (with a pilot's assistance of course) my first plane. What a memory, what a feeling, and this video did a great job of bringing that memory back. It was a Cessna 157 by the way. (Been up twice in a cessna, once in a helicopter, and once in a hot air ballon (even though it was teathered to the ground we went up and came down as we were above 100 ft I call that a flight ) Nice video though thank you for sharing. Listening to this can put a feller to sleep (like the C-130s that constantly fly over my house) So was it a bumpy ride Russouk? -

CombatACE Developer Interview: Into the Stars Generally aiding and abetting is a crime; however, in this case CombatACE is willing help out a few recent escape artists. No they didn’t escape from a federal prison; however, they did escape from traditional game development. A new company Fugitive Games is comprised of a few good men that have backgrounds with DICE, CAPCOM, and SCEA. They’ve worked on games such as Battlefield, Medal of Honor, MAG, Shadows of the Damned, and Lost Planet. So what does this have to with CombatACE? Several weeks ago a video was posted featuring their new game Into the Stars. Many of you seemed interested in it and I thought you might like to hear more about the game from one of the developers. One, Mr. Ben Jones a Co-Founder to be a exact, has taken the time to chat with us about their new game. Thank you, Mr. Jones, for taking the time to do this interview. To begin could you tell us, what inspired you and your team to break free from the big gaming companies and start making your game? Getting a game greenlit at one of the bigger publishers is extremely difficult, but we all have ton of fun ideas that should be enjoyable, even if they aren’t destined to be $100mm blockbusters. By breaking away and forming our own team we are free to pursue these types of games and we simply couldn’t pass up the opportunity to do so. What do you enjoy most about creating games (now that you’re free from the chains and shackles of traditional gaming)? For me it’s the process and seeing your ideas move from paper to reality. When the game comes together around Alpha and you’ve got all the puzzle pieces in place, that’s when things are truly exciting. That and putting the game in a strangers hands for the first time and seeing how they react are my favorite aspects of development. What inspired the creation of Into the Stars? Several of us wanted to make an Oregon Trail type game and our Project Architect Marc really wanted to try that out in space. Once our Art Director got the 3rd person / Captain’s Chair functionality rolling we knew we were on to something. The space genre has had a lot of influence on us over the years, so it’s nice to be working in that universe. How long has Into the Stars been in development and what are some the challenges your team overcame and still face today? Development has been staggered as we rolled on at different times, but less than a year in total. How will your game stand out from other space action games? We feel the game sets itself apart by focusing on the Captain experience. Giving you that perspective and control is really powerful, and it’s going to be exciting to see how each new Captain approaches the journey. Our star system is also quite dense as we’ve taken an action-oriented approach to world building. We don’t want you flying for hours on end twiddling your thumbs… there should be something around every corner to keep you engaged! Your development team has experience with a lot of popular games. Not only that your game’s music is composed by Jack Wall. So with all these wonderful backgrounds meshing together, what can players expect from your game? What are some the features that will draw them in and keep them playing? First and foremost they can expect a polished, highly replayable experience. We’re very focused on the core game and want to deliver a game that’s fun in both short burst and long play sessions. What I think will keep people coming back is the difficulty of the journey, the number of options presented the player and the simple joy of flying through a star system packed with life and opportunity. What is the story you wish to tell through your game? We want each Captain to write their own story. The game provides a beginning and an end, but what happens in between is completely up to you. Will you reach your ultimate destination and what will remain of your ship, crew and civilians when you get there? Each step of the journey will have an impact and play a part of your unique experience. Will players be able to mod Into the Stars? If so will Fugitive Games have limits on what can and cannot be modified? We’re focused on delivering the game at the moment, but having come from the mod scene I would love to see support for that community down the road. There were some amazing mods for FTL and we imagine they could take things in a direction we never thought possible. Do you have anything you would like to tell your supporters? We are incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received, especially because it gives us the ability to build the game to a high degree of quality, which is ultimately what everyone deserves. Once again Mr. Jones thank you so much for taking the time to answer all of these questions For those you interested in learning more about the company and thier title you're more than welcome to visit the link below for more information.

Haven't seen a Super Bowl in a while but WOW! That was a sick catch by Sea Hawks ball landing back in his hands (after he fumbled around with it) The interception when the Seahawk were about to make a comback. Two yards to do go and boom their chances of hope ... gone. Done. With 20 seconds left on the clock. The fights! By the way I support neither team I just like a good football game.

So at work I come across some cool stuff (I work for a charity that help builds home for low income famlies Habitat for Humanity) from time some cool things come in that range from Tom Clancy book, Naval nick knacks, action movies, books, old items you'll never see again, etc. I don't skim off the top but this time I did. A computer game caught my attention Age of Pirates I read the game and it reminded me of a little rainy day game i played called Tradewinds. (a very simple no brainer game that is fun to play if you don't mind 2d graphics and reading what people say). To me the game looks like Tradewinds but with swords and guns and a feelt of ships (Tradewinds 1 you could have a freaking armada if you wished Trandwinds 2 you didn't) On top of that I got a store credit of $50 so I'm thinking why not. Get home and install it. I only three hours of sleep the previous morning yes 3 hours and only 3 hours. So this little box with Star Force asked about verifying the game. My tired mind remebered hearing something about Star Force but couldn't recall. So I clicked yes. oops. Windows and Norton Anti Virus went bat shit crazy. Windows was saying drivers that were not registered was trying to get loaded, Nortan was screaming Trojan, and I was shitting myself (metaphorically speaking of course) I was looking forward to getting a nice night of rest. I was watching my old gal undergo some heavy stuff. Windows wouldn't fire up, I couldn't get into the set up menu to fix the problem. I thought I lost my old system. Finally I was able to do a restore and got things working right. I checked on how to get rid of Star Force and then later found out that windows has never allowed it to install. Norton on the other hand was trying to fight something that wasn't there. It was calling in airstrikes, tank assaults, and sending thousands of rounds down range. By the time I got norton lined out there millions of steaming craters and a mountain of cassings. All systems are green. and I'm A Dumbass. Moral of story don't mess around with your computer when you're half awake and stay away from Star Force related items! I'm taking my butt to bed now.

Star Force is a program that software publishers back in the day used. It was to verify that someone has bought the game. Back then before the days of steam you had to enter long freaking key codes (that were published on youtube) or you had to call a number and get the code to enter, or get an email. So Star Force comes along and publishers used it like crazy. But Star Force in addition to making sure your copy is legal installs drivers without the user knowing it. These drivers do not I say again DO NOT work very well with the other programs on your computer. Because of this many, many users find that their systems DO NOT work correctly. Star Force jacks up software, hardware, everything. It will shut a computer down and will make you go buy another one. If it doesn't shut your system down it will render some of your hardware useless.

Well said.

That's the thing .. right there. If the servers are down you're screwed. Origin for instance taught many that lesson one day several years ago with Battlefield 3. They shut down and no one could play there game. That and certain areas have sorry internet connection so Steam based stuff is pointless. Viewing content is one thing spending 13 hours downloading it is something else. Not to mention that if some people are like me. If I drop $20-$40 on a game ... you bet your ass I own that copy and I'll be damned if you do whatever you please with my money without my say so. I still own Homeworld 1 and 2....on disc. This looks promising. I'm glad they're doing it and it makes me want to fire them back up.
