Hey guys I'll keep this short. I'm working on a sci fi story with some futursitic combat. I have a character who is a roookie to the Celestial Marine Corps and during a battle he disabled an assault mech with a depleted power cell he found from crates. He didn't single handedly save the day he just helped even the odds as he and the others (after seeing how he did it) rigged the power cells to blow. What would you nickname such a person? Scrap Toolbox Tool Just curious. I'm looking for something short. Thank you for your time.

Would ACDC Shoot to Thrill be an okay song for Combat Ace?

And the funny thing is there is more computing power on a modern cellphone than on that thing.

Help: Trying to come with a nickname for my sci fi character
Skyviper replied to Skyviper's topic in The Pub
You know I just might use Wrench it flows so well with the story ... if the thing becomes a movie I'll make sure the Combat Ace guys get some tickets ... hell Wrench can have mine. I hate theaters ... for lots of reasons other that high ass concessions. -
Help: Trying to come with a nickname for my sci fi character
Skyviper replied to Skyviper's topic in The Pub
Wrench kept coming up in the list too. I didn't want to deal with the whole ancillary and perpetuity rights thing. I like the other nick names too and I thank you all for chipping in. I'm going to play around with some these to see how they work out. -
Don’t forget that, in addition to physical prowess, American Football also for some physiological tactics too with a number of trick plays designed intentionally to fool the competitor also, as a side effect, create excitement for the spectators (if and when successful or great anger should things not work out very well.) But with all of the “physics” of American Football it’s pretty simple. Hit the guy holding the ball, try not to let the other guys score, and protect those on your team who are holding the ball so your team can score. And when there is a score everyone is supposed to perform the well rehearsed and choreographed touchdown dance … I’m kidding

Military Question a point of accuracy for a sci fi short story
Skyviper posted a topic in Military and General Aviation
Hey I'm working on a sci fi short story and I have some parts that call for an arty strike and another that calls for Air Support. I've never served so I don't know the protocols for these. I would like to know, if possible, how the calls would be transmitted. What would the officer or spotter say to the artillery officer or what would the artillery team leader say in reply? Same for air strikes what's some of the basic chatter that happens before an airstrike is started and or after? I want these segments to be true to life or at least well enough so when someone reads the story they know I put some dedication into getting things done right. Thank you for your time. -
Military Question a point of accuracy for a sci fi short story
Skyviper replied to Skyviper's topic in Military and General Aviation
Cool guys thank you all so much for taking the time to chime in on this. I will have the human element there even when I use a somewhat automated system. My arty team is on a big freaking ship above the planet though. Think about a Star Trek or Star Wars ship meets AC-130. Don't get me wrong the ship can do actions without a ground team because the enemy in this scenario is subterranean. Any opfor that is above ground is wasted almost immediately. Ground forces are there to clear the enemy out underground. The enemy uses tech that prevents a lot of drones from being used in their tunnels. This story has humans invading an alien world (we get some for a change). Why? You'll have to read to find out. Once again thank you all for your time. -
Some nice aircraft porn there.

Military Question a point of accuracy for a sci fi short story

Futuristic very futuristic lets say for sake of argument 300 years from now -
So I was talking to my buddy Pete the other day and he told me I had no sense of humor. I shrugged and told him that no one can be funny like him. He said he got that from his parents. I told him that his parents had a really great sense of humor and how they had some really funny jokes. I also mentioned that they made a joke funnier than the rest. He asked what me the joke was and I looked at him and said "you." (true story slightly edited for your enjoyment)

I wonder if I can do that in America. Also along these lines something else you might like to do I got this idea watching a show of Strek Trek with the Ferangi entering a home. They charge admission to entering a home when a guest comes over. I like that idea. People stop by they pay you a few bucks for entering your house. So know you're making money off the phone calls and entry. I really want to do this so when the tele marketers call it will actually pay off. Shoot I'd give my number out to every last add company out there and let them call me all they want too (might set up a seperate line and set that sucker to ring on silent or something.) Thanks for sharing that I can make a killing doing that.

So I took a blast to the past ... Yeah that's right Top Gun on NES brought back some memories both good and bad. ... Landing on the carrier is still a pain in the ass. Found this to be a bit funny too knowing what I know now. But I moved on from Top Gun and into another favorite of mine. I gather that pretty much every mission consists of you rescuing people and these guys needing you to help out because all of this dangerous stuff is right your alley. I didn't have time to snap a picture of a fifty jets taking on a lone helicopter and shooting a crap load of blue staticy balls a.k.a missiles. But I did snap a picture of the take off sequence that featured and the refueling scene. Then I went to a favorite from back in younger years ... F-15 Super Strike Eagle :) Its a Carrier based F-15 with Maverick missiles that destroy entire Airfields in one shot, take out four tanks or scuds with one shot, destroy a cruiser in one shot ... its still fun to play. Carrier Launch A little air to air action I figured I share these photos with you guys.

Slewable radar cursors, are possible somehow?
Skyviper replied to Stratos's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I remember talking with thirdwire a long time ago about certain aspects of their engine. They mentioned that the costs were astronomical and that certain features were left out so they wouldn't alienate a certain crowd. Unfortunately they felt as if they already had which killed their market. Personally I would like to manually target objects using the FLIR camera as there are times in game targeting system does not select a target of interest. It would also add a new dynamic to the game with the ability for a fighter craft to laser designate targets for a B-1 that is nearby. You clear the enemy fighters and then point out the targets for the B-1 to strike. All things are possible if given the time and effort I think meaning certain modifications would have to be made to the current engine to allow it. Until those modifications are made then its going to have to be a no. -

Two women were on their way home after a fun night out at the bar. They needed to pee really bad and had nowhere to go except for a nearby cemetery. The first one used her underwear to clean with and the second one used a ribbon from a nearby wreath. Later that night their husbands are the phone talking to each other. The first says "My wife is not allowed to do this again." The second asked "Why is that?" "I came home and she was passed on the bed with no pants or panties on. I don't know what was going on but they aren't doing this girl's night out thing again." The second husband said "Well hell my wife was passed on the bed too, she had on no pants or panties and there was a card stuck in her butt that said from all of us the fire station no. 3 we'll never forget you." ------- Number two A Scottish man was making his way home from the pub when passed out drunk on the side of the road. A few hours later some girls saw him on the side of the road and they tried to wake him up but he didn't reply. So the girls wondered what was under the kilt of a Scottish man and so they looked and saw what he has been gifted with. To prevent others from seeing they covered it up. When the Scotsman woke up we stumbled over to a nearby tree to pee and when he looked down he was surprised to see the blue ribbon tied his pen*s. And he said "I don't know where you've been but apparently you won first prize."

Leroy Jenkins was the only black guy at a Louisiana Party some millionaire was throwing. The millionaire got bored and had a fourteen foot man eating alligator brought in and offered $500,000 to the first person that could defeat the alligator. Within seconds Leroy was in the pool and fighting the animal. The two went down the bottom of the pool and after a brief moment of silence the alligator floated up dead. Leroy crawled out and the millionaire offered him the prize. Leroy refused saying "All I want is to know the name of the person that pushed me in the pool." Police officers in the United States fired 280 rounds at a cop killer. A reporter asked an officer on scene why they fired 280 rounds. The officer replied "We ran out of ammo"

I got into a fight with a little person. We were invovled in a traffic collision he stepped out and said "I'm not happy." And I asked "so which of them are you sleepy, dopy, which one? That's how the fight started.
