  1. Thanks at least i know I have the proverbial needle in a haystack ! I'll keep at it. I actually think of my 8800GT as "new" even though I know its not. I try and get as much as i can out of something, before I go on. New is good, but sometimes old is good too. As a good example just look at what planes were flying. Simple planes without HUD's you fly by the seat of your pants. But you can't make 8800GT's "fly" so I have to do the best with what i've got, at least for now.
  2. It was a great paperback I use to read over and over, just wondered If anyone else read it and what they thought of it?
  3. Thanks to all for your responses, although I wish I would get an email to let me know I had responses ! Now that I'm in the poor farm for buying all the drinks(guess I'll have to just sniff the castor oil and hope for the best !) I'll let you know I've killed at least 7 pilots so far. Only about 3 died from being shot down, the others shall we say had an early demise by hitting old terra firma, and/or trees. It amazes me you ca shoot anything down at all. I'm not the best shot in the world but seeing constant pcs flying off and then seeing the enemy flyaway, or wprst yet come back and plaster you is amazing. Most of the fights were instant ones, with me taking off and trying to get enough altitude so as not to crash into the ground. BTW I am using the Thrustmaster stick X and it works very well. The most difficult part is just seeing the enemy. I now flt from an outside view most of the time, except when in an actual dogfigh, and even then i might pop out to see where he went. I tried one campaign, however i was supposed to attack a railway hub , and never did find it at all, soI strafed an airfield instead. When i returned I was told to keep up the good work.So far the only plane I could shoot down the Fokkor DVII with was the Sopwith Tripe, although the pup isn't bad, seeing out of it is rather difficult. The rear engine DH2? is great for seeing out of ,but it moves along in a rather liesurely fashion. And who flies in the rain in these things anyway, its hard enough seeing where your going !
  4. Actually I have read and reread verything quite a few times, I've also changed settings a number of times with the same results. What I'm looking for is someone with the same card and basic system. So yes I did read it, and yes i will continue to bump around as you say until I find the answer or give up, which is what happend with Red baron eventually. maybe this is as good as it will run on my system, I'm not sure.
  5. By configure what do you mean? I set the resolution at 1050 x 1680 x 32, I set the antaliasing at 0. As far as other settings I was hoping someone also had an 8800GT, and could try there settings as well. As far as iRacing goes I have that set and it works very well. I think you can strike a balance where all the sims you can run , are smooth enough to make them realistic. I've had systems that run all the "eye candy" and in the end it doesn't make the sim any better. I'll take smoothness over eye candy everytime. But with this system I have now, everything is a bit of a compromise anyway.
  6. map freeze

I'm not sure whether this is a cure, but I had the same exact problem as well. I have found that If I'm not in the cockpit, and I'm say in an outside"view" looking at the aircraft, and i hit the M key the map doesn't freeze. I'm not even sure If it works allthe time, But I did play about 4 hours wity it over the weekend and it worked ok. Something to try anyways. Besides If i stay in cockpit view i never even see any enemies coming, all I hear is machine guns and I'm either in flames or spinning like a leaf !
  7. Hey guys , I was at SimHQ, but was told this is the place to be, so here I am. I have read the FAQ's page, but I'm still a bit hazy on a few things. First and this will probably sound crazy, how do you turn down the music and effects in the User interface, and when I start a mission, the startup of the engine right after the guys says "Clear!". Don't get me wrong the music is great, but for some reason the rest of the ingame sounds are just right, but the music is really loud !! I did try turning the general sound down , but for some reason the music is way louder. Yes i know you can shut it off, but I did try that and nothing happened, besides as I said the music is really good. Next is getting the sim to run smoothly ,here is my system: Gigabyte P35-DS3L, Intel E6750 duo-core 2.66 Ghz, 2Gb ram,Nvidia 8800 GT video card with 512 memory. So far I can run it at 1680 x 1050 x 32 with everything at 2 except clouds, those when on 2 turn it into a slideshow. I have heard you can turn shadows off, but I got lost trying to find it, someone said click on hanger, but wasn't sure where that was. Any of you familiar with iRacing should know i can run that easily with framerates in the 100 - 250 range. I'm using a Thrustmaster T-Flite Stick X BTW and it seems to work pretty well, although I haven't programmed anything yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  8. New to OFF

Thats the thing, I think the reason for the slight stutters is when I'm close to the ground where there are lots of trees. I'm just not sure where to change that for just the ground textures. I did read somewhere in the User interface, that you go to a hanger and then hit something, and that gets you into somewhere where you can change these things plus things like shadows.
