It wasn't, it was an anniversary one. All air forces , with traditions, in the world have at least one made. If you have the F-4E_AUP, there is a skin there for celebration of 40 years of Phantom in Greece, made after the original. Having this idea in my mind I was asking you to make a skin for F-5.

WaterMap bitmap secret
UllyB replied to UllyB's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
UPDATE I tried to make a watermap for Sweden/Baltic Rim , which doesn't support carrier operations. Well, for USN works, the carrier is always in water, but for Russian it doesn't work. It seems it's not that simple. I noticed in Photoshop, when you work on the indexed file, in indexed mode, an Ox and an Oy pink invisible axes. I don't have a clue what they do and what is their role in the indexed file. -
WaterMap bitmap secret
UllyB replied to UllyB's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I managed to make a usable watermap for VietnamSEA map. I made it in Photoshop. I didn't even need to transform it in RGB , in order to modify it. I did it directly in indexed state and then saved it. In the meantime I will work, experimentaly, to build/modify watermaps for some terrains which won't support carrier operations. What does this parameter exactly do? What does mean "offset". I always had trouble with this word. I don't know what it means. -
ESCORT_JAMMER/NAVAL_SEARCH
UllyB posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I understood that A.I. Soviet bombers have some new (scripted) missions. CRUISE_MISSILE was already explained to me, but I would like to find out what does an A.I. plane when it has these two missions (ESCORT_JAMMER and NAVAL_SEARCH). Thank you. -
ESCORT_JAMMER/NAVAL_SEARCH
UllyB replied to UllyB's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
You meant all these for enemy A.I. right ? If so now it make sense. So it's not a syntax here, it's just the engine which decides about strike missions, through navalmap switch. All this for enemy A.I. only. -
Reconnaissance/Transport Missions Fail
UllyB replied to GunnySonics's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Try, for a change, a custom AWACS recon mission, for SF2 , similar to the SF1 counterpart from download section made by me. You take an AWACS model, make it recon &transport role only. Change, if you choose an USA AWACS, the formation type in formation.ini (you will have the AWACS with two escorts , one on each side or 5 symetric escorts, take your pick). Change for AWACS to easyradar so you will be able, like in an AWACS, to pick any air-to-air or air-to-ground target. Modify on each AWACS wing to allow every weapon you need for the escorts. You can add , separately, two fuel tanks so you can choose between two fighters (any other fighter you will choose after fixing the fuel tank names will fly without fuel tanks, obviously, but you can change the names for fuel tanks at anytime or you can create for every AWACS you get two distinct planes for them. Think COUNTRIES! F-14/F15/F-16/F-18/F-22 with a USA AWACS; Rafale with a French one etc) if you want them to load fuel tanks as well. RECON missions are long range ones so you will need fuel for sure, if the ecort fights. In a Soviet type (bomber) formation you can order to two wingmen, instead of one, like in US formation, with one command. No 2 and No3 will take the order and will blast everything in their path. When you have 5 escort planes everything becomes more interesting. You can order the other flight (No4, No5 and No6) to join the fight or send them to other corner to fight other enemy flights or send them to blast ground targets. These type of AWACS missions are my favorite especially when one try to escape with no scratch and your escort 100% alive. Here's some reference from SF1 of the matter: If you are interested PM me and I will assist as needed. Soon I will make something similar for SF2. For now I am busy with other SF2 things. -
ESCORT_JAMMER/NAVAL_SEARCH
UllyB replied to UllyB's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
How does the game "know" to switch to naval strike, if the syntax is not in aircraft (data.ini file) primary/secondary role written? It can't be just navalmap switch in terrain ini file, can it ? Or is it ? Or do you mean that A.I. switches to better weapons, when it "sees" navalmap=TRUE, with no correlation per sei with "naval_strike" syntax ? The naval_strike syntax, not appearing written in aircraft roles clouds my understanding a bit I'm afraid. -

yes I will someday. I am curious when it comes to what I like and military flight sims I love them! Thank you for your answers gentlemen. PS - I checked the stock A6E data.ini file, it has no that mission in its list. It has these only: PrimaryRoles=STRIKE,ANTI_SHIP SecondaryRoles=ARMED_RECON,SEAD,CAS By the way, you didn't tell me what STRIKE_NAVAL does. -

Then it's strange, it wasn't suppose to happen in Vietnam Sea. Copy this file I sent into your VietnamSea terrain and tell me if this fixed it. VIETNAMSEA_WATER.7z -
Enemy planes won't fight...
UllyB replied to amariani's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
- Look into data.ini, if wings are supporting air-to-air missile - Make sure you HAVE those weapons in weapons folder - Check the loadout.ini file to make sure the A.I. plane loads air-to-air weapons - Check the syntax in loadout.ini and data.ini files. One letter written wrong can mean an empty wing. - Make sure the plane's country is correct. - Make sure the plane has the correct COUNTRY attachment type - Make sure that A.I. can use the air-to-air weapons (some missile are not exported, make sure the export is checked and the export data interval correspond with the plane's life data) - Make sure the stations ID, in data.ini have the right number. If you have the same numbers on different wings, the loadout.ini won't load them. - Make sure you don't have restrictions on wings (length, weight, diameter etc). If the missile is longer, for instance, than it is written/allowed on the wing, game won't load it. -

I saw it often happened if you force on a terrain NAVALMAP=TRUE and it has no logistic to support carriers operations. -

Pay attention to HEIGHT and DISTANCE to the target. The higher you fly, the longer the distance you can release the LGB. Make a few runs and optimize the process. Practising is what makes you an ace. You don't need to steer the targetpod, you will be able to see (the virtual Laser camera mounted on your plane) when it hits the target if you don't change trajectory of your plane, you don't throttle the speed up and you don't release the bomb too close to the target. -

UllyB replied to MigBuster's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters Series News
No argument with your digital audio processing, but you are wrong about what a real flight sim demands. It dumps a heavy load on CPU and GPU, for creating the scene and the math behind the plane's trajectory, for example. You have no idea how much. It can bring down a computer depending on its power/components. Try to play a real sim with a low end CPU (with all to max, including geometry details etc) and you'll see what I mean. -

UllyB replied to MigBuster's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters Series News
DCS is well optimized, anyone knows that, that is why is works well with only a i5. In a flight sim there are two components which take the heavy load, one is CPU and the other is the GPU in matters of geometry calculation before rendering. Both, among other tasks, sustain the geometry making of the gameplay, especially the math behind the plane's "dance" in the sky, the missile trajectory etc. So CPU makes a BIG difference, whether you noticed it or not. A task manager or a tool like MIS Afterburner doesn't tell the whole story if there is the place you took your info, pressing ALT-TAB in the middle of the game. I know that from a guy who works for UBISoft (he worked for Looking Glass and DID, the "fathers" of military flight sims) and told/showed me these things 25 years ago. -
Is a Windows 10 version really needed?
UllyB replied to rlwicker1967's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
I am not aware of the fixer for Direct X 10 you are talking about. I will take a look. So , with this fixer written for FSX you mean that SF2 would look better or I missunderstood ?
