  1. The last time I touched these was Dec '12 according to the JPG dates and I don't know whether Russo even has the models any more so I'd definitely say "2 weeks"
  2. Myself and ChrisBV were working on some new Sea Harrier bits but the nose of the model needed a lot of work and the model needed some smoothing and SF1 issues sorting which Russo started to look at for us but his work load was pretty high at the time so it was never finished and I didn't think it was good enough in it's current state to be released (originally a SF1 model so lots of issues with animations, decal bleeds, rough straight lines instead of curves etc). The Pic above has the right wording for the colours but the colours themselves are wrong, i.e it correct says Extra Dark Sea Grey (which is grey) but shows blue etc. Here's what the correct colours looked like - There was also two Twin AIM-9 rails built into the model for the '83+ model of the Sea Harrier but I don't have any pics of that right now. ***EDIT*** - Found a old menu screen with the twin rails -
  3. Hi all, I've just watched this on a different forum and the logic of it's use/inception escapes me. DARPA has spent millions of dollars creating a robotic mule to carry the troops heavy packs, extra water/food/ammo etc through all kinds of terrains but surely the KISS of it would be to just use a real Mule. It's cheaper, better over terrain, quieter (the Robo-Mule uses a diesel engine) and less likely to break down. True, there's some extra costs to buy, house, feed and care for a real mule but it still must work out cheaper per "unit" that the Robot version, surely! There's a smaller "Dog" version which was the original test unit and they'd like to make these too but once again, we've already got trained military dogs which do this job, how is a robo version going to be significantly better enough to justify the costs? The only advantage I can see is that they are less likely to be spooked during contact and run off which is always a possibility with animals.
  4. Another 777 lost

I'd say the people who fired the missile are "ultimately responsible" there hrc, being that they are the ones who actually killed people. All the other talk of who is right or wrong (airlines, governments etc) doesn't change the fact that the people who fired those missiles are the only ones Directly Responsible, it was "their" decision to kill people by shooting down a plane (regardless of who they thought was aboard it), nobody elses.

************************ Iranian Weapons for SF2 **************************** This pack is designed for use in the Op Darius Mod. The weapons in this pack were originally made for SF1 by Lindr2 back in September '08. I've converted them to SF2 standard and reskinned them to be more "realistic" than the original skins were, however 99% of the work was done in Paint so don't expect miracles with the skins! I've tested it in Op Darius with the Nov'11 Patch and everything seemed fine but let me know if you find anything. All the following have been tested and work on all the Iranian jets, however because of the "AttachmentType" nations used for the various Iranian jets in Op Darius these weapons will be available for most Aircraft. To make the pack compatable with the Aircraft in Op Darius I've had to make a few changes to how the Radar guided Anti-Ship Missiles work so they are now IIR guided (that way you won't have to mess with A/C data files to get them to fit on the pylons) ***************************************************************************** Installation Drag and drop into your Op Darius Mod Folder - Usually C:\Users\YOUR NAME\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 Op Darius (or whatever you've called it) ***************************************************************************** Weapons List - Due to sanctions Iran has it's own indigenous weapons program so I'll try and explain what each weapon is and it's guidance system. AGM-379 Zoobin - TV Guided 1200lb Missile Farj-e-Darya - TV Guided 300lb Anti-Ship missile Fatter IRM - Heat-Seeking Air to Air Missile GBU-67 Qadr - TV Guided 2500lb Glide Bomb GBU-78A Ghassem - TV Guided 2000LB Glide Bomb HK-55 Granat - Inertial Nav Guided 3300lb Cruise Missile Kosar 1 - TV Guided 210lb Anti-Ship Missile Kosar 3 - Radar Guided 250lb Anti-Ship Missile Nasr - Radar Guided 750lb Anti-Ship Missile Noor-A - Radar Guided 1350lb Anti-Ship Missile Noor-B - Radar Guided 2000LB Anti-Ship Missile (extended range) Retarded 750lb LGB Retarded 1000lb LGB Retarded 2000lb LGB Sattar 1 - Laser Guided 1000lb Rocket Sattar 2 - Laser Guided 1000lb Rocket Sattar 3 - Laser Guided 1000lb Rocket Sattar 4 - Laser Guided 1000lb Rocket Toophan 2 and Launcher - Wire Guided Tow-Style Anti-Tank Missile Yasser - Laser Guided 1750lb Rocket TIS-33 Laser Designator Pod ****************************************************************************** Issues - The original models and skin mapping weren't perfect so I've done the best with what I had to work with, however there are several issues which are beyond my control. The worst of which is the model for the Sattar 1&4 wasn't mapped fully so there's a thin slice where you can see through the model. 2nd is the Retarded LGB's only use a tiny section of the skin map meaning the text on the skin is repeated in mirror image on one side of the bomb. There's other minor issues but those are the biggest. ****************************************************************************** Thanks to The following - Lindr2 for the original weapons. Dave & Edbuger for the Op Darius Mod and the weapons ini help. Ravenclaw007 for the Skinning ideas & templates. ****************************************************************************** Change Log V1.1 - Weapon .ini's updated to SF2 standard, FRANCE added to nations (For F1-EQ) ******************************************************************************
  6. Question from a gun ignorant

The AIAW, M24 and M40 family all have a floating barrel, the stock is just very close (2-5mm) which makes it look like it's touching but it's not.
  7. Awesome missile there, as per usual
  8. I was supporting the air Ops from October 2001 and remember when an ODA team also took friendly fire. That was traced back to a simple mistake using the handheld Laser Designator which, when the batteries were replaced, gave your current GPS co-ordinates until you acknowledged that your GPS location was correct. Only then would it show the targets co-ordinates and in the heat of battle the FAC missed the acknowledgement and thought the GPS co-ordinates the LD was giving him were the targets and called the strike in. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2001_Sayyd_Alma_Kalay_airstrike http://time.com/2854306/the-curse-of-friendly-fire/
  9. I deleted those tanks a long time ago as it was a different set Soulfreak was after.
  10. ValAstur - What resolution do you run the game at? Your screenshots always look much sharper than 95% of the other folks on here and it makes the game look even more impressive!
  11. Its coming over this year.......

617 disbanded about a month ago. I had a great time on 617 so it's a shame to see them go and I'm gutted I missed the disbandment party, I heard it was epic!
  12. On a Beer & Aircraft related theme - Our very own Dave helped me out in 2012
  13. Your fav "BAD GUYS" Cold War plane as a youth?

The Su-22, it looks like the angry love child of a pissed off MIG-21 and a bad tempered bear thats been kept in a cage and beaten with sticks daily just to make it more angry! However the Su-30 is possibly the most beautiful aircraft I've ever seen apart from the MKI versions I saw up close which looked a bit uncared for sadly (even though they were well maintained).
  14. Mother of God....

The 1st trailer left me thinking "I wouldn't mind seeing this". That second one changed that to an "Oh Hell Yeah I'm definitely watching that"
  15. CombatACE Editors and Staff

Seconding the thoughts already on here, well done folks.

************************ Royal Air Force Kestrel GR1/3 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2 V2.0 ************************ Due to technical internet issues Cocas has asked me to release this for him as he's unable - This is the V2.0 update of Cocas and Spinners fantastic "Sea Kestrel" pack and is a fairly comprehensive overhaul of the original pack with almost everything either new or improved! This pack includes all the Effects, Weapons and Sounds required to run on a standalone setup but it has only been tested on an Full 5 Merged setup. Installation ------------- Unzip then copy and paste the Effects/Flight/Objects/Sounds folders into your Mod folder (usually C:\Users\YOUR NAME\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 **or whatever yours is called**). AIRCRAFT ------------ Aircraft Specific Info - ---------------------- Kestrel GR1 ('87 - '05) - Designed for the RAF as a purely ground attack aircraft alongside the the Royal Navy's Sea Kestrel FRS.1 it had the Radar removed and had the new Angle Rate Bombing System (ARBS) fitted instead but was otherwise virtually identical in performance. The 4 RAF Squadrons equipped with the GR1 were given different paint jobs to reflect their different areas of speciality with 1F & 20R Sqns painted Green for Central Europe, 3F Sqn painted in White/Green winter camo for Northern Europe and 4F Sqn in Desert sand for the middle East. Kestrel GR3 ('06 - '20) - This massive upgrade saw everything from the engine to weapons to the avionics all hugely upgraded, especially the weapons. It included a new Nose mounted FLIR camera with RWR and the ability to carry the more advanced weapons that the RAF had developed. All 4 Sqns returned to a Grey paint job for the GR3. OTHER INFO ----------- Issues - ------ ARBS - I've tried to be tricky here and made the ARBS system a laser designator but with no range. You'll need to fit some LGB's to see it working but if you want to actually drop LGB's then you'll need to add a separate Laser Pod to do the guiding. It does look pretty cool though! Hovering is quite difficult at 1st. With a fuel weight of under 25% and no weapons you can hover at around 55% thrust but without a working Nozzle gauge it's difficult to tell where your nozzles are pointing, especially as the 3D model nozzles stop moving at only 40' visually! My recommendation is to apply fully forward nozzles (98.5') and then slowly move it backwards until the engine exhaust dirt looks like it's pointing at 90' but it's not ideal (see Alternate Cockpit below). The mapping is "interesting" in some places with stretching, especially on the 2 Booms. The 3F skin (winter Camo) was really tricky, so much so that I wanted to punch a thousand cute kittens by the end after spending hours/days trying to get the edges to match up! So sadly it's not as good as I'd like but the PS templates are out to so hopefully you can improve on my skin. *******If you find any issues or find that I've got something wrong please contact me on CombatAce - http://combatace.com/user/64030-ianh755/ ******************* ------------------------------------------------- Alternate Cockpit Usage (for Advanced Users only) - ------------------------------------------------- Included in this pack is Bobrocks fantastic Harrier AV-8B cockpit which, as it includes important Nozzle info, makes hovering much easier. However the Cockpit is more limited in comparison to the Kestrel (F-23/29) version so, if you're not bothered about trying to hover that much, I'd stick to the original Cockpit. Installation is simply dropping the Cockpit folder with it's 2 ini's into your A/C and altering the aircraftname.ini to point to the 2 new ini's. I'd make a backup before you though just to be safe! Please use at your own risk, if you don't know how to alter ini files then please don't attempt to install the new cockpit in case you break something! THANKS -------- Massive thanks to Cocas for creating the 3D model and patiently modifying it everytime I asked for any/every crazy little thing! Spinner for his fantastic work with the original Pack. Dels for creating his superb F-23/F-29 cockpit used here with his kind permission. Bobrock for creating his amazing AV-8B cockpit used here with kind permission. Ravenclaw007 for the stunning weapons he makes and I continue to enjoy using. Spillone104 for his Improved Afterburner Effects. The Various Modders who've made the Pilots and Seats which I used from my install but sadly I can't find out who you are to give full credit (please PM me and I'll update this with your name) but I think its' EBurger68, ChrisBV, Ravenclaw007 and EricJ ************************************************************************************* Have fun and thanks for Downloading.............................................IanH *************************************************************************************
  17. I bought both the Strike Eagle - The F-15E at War and the Warthog - the A-10 at War books from Amazon - Great reads, especially the A-10 one which ended up doing so many different mission types as their Desk at the main Ops HQ kept saying - "We can do that if you want"
  18. Also GPS homing was broken by one of the numerous patches. You used to be able to drop it anywhere and it would still guide, even behind you but now it's much harder and only seems to work randomly (some missions 100% accurate, others 0% with the same drop parameters).
  19. Did you really just call that Harrier a "BJ" I must have a fairly dirty mind!
  20. As your mods are done to the StrikeFighters2 NorthAtlantic folder then place the BulletObject.ini file into your StrikeFighters2 NorthAtlantic/Objects folder.
  21. Quick and dirty way - Go to the Objects/Aircraft folder in your Mod folder - open the Typhoon folder - open the Typhoon_data file - Right at the top there is Start and End dates, edit those and save.
  22. Could you not just alter the ParticleLifeTime= figure (so the smoke lasts longer) and the ParticleSize= figures to match (so the smoke gets bigger over the new longer time)?
  23. Lone Survivor

If, and it's a big "IF", this film hadn't used the line "Based on a True Story" then I'd have rated it much higher because the action is very well done, the stunts are genuinely bone breaking (1 stuntman bust 3 ribs and a lung) and the "made-up" story would have been more credible. However, because they did say "based on a true story" then my problem with the film is the fake "Hollywood" ending they gave it with the Taliban and villagers fighting and Marky Mark knife fighting someone with a broken back because neither of these things actually happened and, if they decided to fake these bits for a better story, then what other bits they fake. If the original "true" story isn't good enough for Hollywood and they decide to change it to make it exciting then they should also remove "Based on a true Story" from it, as it no longer is one, and change the characters names from the real life people involved as a mark of respect because you are no longer telling the truth about them, just some made up "but it looks better on screen" story which is a lie. I'd be surprised if Luttrell, who was there during filming, didn't say anything about the ending as people who don't know the real story will actually think that he did all those things when he knows himself that it's a lie, and that he'll have to explain to these people that none of it was real, which has got to be extremely embarrassing for him.

This is the new Photoshop Template for use with the New V2.0 pack of the RAF, RN and USMC Kestrel aircraft by Cocas which can be found here - RAF - http://combatace.com/files/file/14039-raf-kestrel-gr1-gr3-pack-by-cocas-v20/ RN - http://combatace.com/files/file/14040-royal-navy-sea-kestrel-frs1-frs2-by-cocas-v20/ USMC - http://combatace.com/files/file/14041-usmc-av-16a-av-16b-kestrel-ii-by-cocas-v20/ Have fun!
  25. On the 20th December I bought myself a lovely low mileage (72,000) 03 plate C5 RS6 Avant in Daytona Grey. It's engine is a monstrous 4.2L Twin-Turbo V8 with 450hp & 428ft/lbs ***There's some more pics at the bottom*** It was completely standard (except for being de-badged of the RS6 on the rear) and I'm the third owner, with the 1st one taking obvious care of it with a service book full of Audi stamps and receipts for nearly 9 years while the 2nd owner appeared "more relaxed" about the maintenance side of ownership for the year he owned it before part-exchanging. For a ten year old car it's in extremely good condition. The paint work only has 2 very minor scratches, the engine bay is spotless, the interior looks brand new and it's had the brakes & timing belt replaced 10K miles ago (see Bottom for more Timing Belt info). I've had a few performance and V8 RWD cars previously (450hp Nissan R34 - BMW 740i etc) and I'd originally test drove a C6 S6, E60 M5 and a Merc S65, all of which were "OK" but seemed to be missing something for my tastes, before finding an RS6 with a History I was happy with. Even after all the other test drives I knew within seconds of that 1st "booting it" moment that the RS6 was the one for me as I grinned like a loon almost none stop during the test and actually giggled after one particular overtake Current Issues - No 2nd hand car is perfect and this hold true here although the problems are minor. The Left Rear mid-bass speaker is blown (works but sound crackly/farty), the paint had bubbled on one of the rear parking sensors intermittently sending the system haywire (see's a object when there not) and the Carbon Fibre ash-tray trim piece is loose. Not bad really! So, my plans for the RS6 then - Performance - Due to the previous owners apparent lack of quality maintenance I've got a visit to MRC Tuning (Audi Specialists) booked for Friday for the RS to get a thorough going over - Gearbox service, 20K service inc MAF/DV/N75 replacement and Health check - and if everything gets the all clear a Stage 1 remap (500hp and 510ft/lbs). However if anything big needs replacing during the health check (leaking intercoolerss, exhaust, failing DRC suspension etc) then I'll hold off the remap, replace any parts with performance versions and go for a Stage 2 remap instead (530hp and 580ft/lbs). Audio - Removing the old Sat Nav stereo (Navi-Plus RNS-D) was my 1st mod while I waited for MRC to re-open after Xmas. In it's place is an Alpine INE-W925R head unit with more connectivity than you could shake a stick at and including DAB & Sat Nav, meaning the standard aerial has been replaced with a "sharks-fin" style one due to the different DAB/GPS aerials. Other - I'm an engineer by trade and think that more is better than less regarding maintenance so the Timing belt will need doing this year. While it was done earlier than it should have been at 65K miles, there's no receipt for the work (only the parts) and only a few other bits were replaced, not the water pump etc so as it hits the 80K mile mark I'll get it done again. After that it'll just be keeping it ticking over waiting for the inevitable DRC and Gearbox failures to raise their head! Cheers for reading.......................................Ian
