DCS 70% Off On Steam Daily Deal
ianh755 replied to Dave's topic in Digital Combat Simulator Series General Discussion
Maybe not - All my DLC's are knackered I can play the stock DCS World (SU-25T) but none of the DLC's I bought work, they all crash DCS back to the debriefing screen with "Can not open debrief" message and the Steam forums are full of people with the same issue. -

Help with a Sci-Fi kinetic kill SAM.

I tried something similar and I also found that the faster a missile flies the more it corkscrews making it virtually unusable. I think this is down to the coding TK used to make A-A weapons "wobble" in-flight so when you push a missile too fast the wobbling effect alters the flight path too much. -

IAF & USAF packs - release due within "2 weeks" -
Hi All, I'm having issues finding out how to do this so I thought I'd ask here. I can already create a dotted line in PS (using Brush tip spacing) but how can I create a Dashed line instead i.e ------------- not .............. for things line warning signs etc When I try, the dashes stay in the same direction so a vertical line has horizontal dashes _ _ _ _ _ instead of I I I I I has anyone got any ideas? At this point I'm think of going back to a normal straight line and using the eraser to remove bits as it seems easier, if a lot more time consuming! Cheers!

I took me ages to get this texture right for the high grip non-slip coating on the Navs foot rest but I think it looks pretty damn good now! -
How do I create a Dashed line in PS CS3 (NOT dotted)?

ianh755 replied to ianh755's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Thats kind of what I'm doing now - I make a layer of dashes by drawing a line and deleting sections, and then duplicate that layer and rotate it for what ever angle I need. What would be nice is if you could draw a shape using line/rectangle/circle tool and then click a brush option for dashes and the use the Spacing slider to make them bigger/smaller so I don't have 115 line layers as I do currently (before I finally merge them all into one). -

These would be a bit excessive I think but good for a demo of the 45' effect you want - Down, left and aft would be Ejectvelocity=-9.00, -9.00,-3.00 Down, right and aft would be Ejectvelocity=9.00, -9.00,-3.00 These would be 9m/s down + 9m/s left/right (giving 45' angle away) and 3m/s rearwards. You'd probably on need a velocity of around 2m/s I think rather than the 9m/s I've put here which is a bit OTT Have a play with the figures to get the look you're after just remember to keep the 1st two figures matching (regardless of +/-) the you'd get a 45' angle away from the A/C. The Chaff/Flares use the same setup and I'm forever fiddling to get it looking just right -

Hi there, if you're running the July '13 patch you'll need this HotFix which "should" prevent the CTD's (although each patch upgrade seems to break new stuff every time!) http://www.thirdwire.net/files/dl/SF2_Jul2013_Hotfix.exe Hope that helps. -

F-15C mini IRST style ball on nose - Any ideas?
ianh755 posted a topic in Military and General Aviation
Hi all, just flicking through some pics on a photographer forum I use and this guy caught some F-15C's going through the Mach Loop in Wales UK (rare for "C's" to use it) and I noticed the IRST looking ball just behind the radar. Anyone got any info/ideas as to what it is or was I right with my guess? - Here's the pic -

ianh755 replied to ianh755's topic in Military and General Aviation
Yeah, still not sure what it is though, there's one top and bottom - -
I've got it and it's "interesting" There's some fairly good parts but there's a bit too much use of a Get of of Jail Free plot device involving either "Innovative Thinking" or "Secret Tactics" by the UK military that always saves the day (i.e radical ideas proposed by junior officers which work flawlessly). Sadly from my experience we just don't have the right breed of officers who can do that kind of innovative thinking in places where they could make a difference any more. We've become almost Russian in our slavish adherence to Training Manuals and woe-betide anyone who even thinks about doing something outside of the extremely rigid "Only do what the book says until we've spent years thoroughly examining every aspect of any proposed change" current military thinking, by which time usually the original threat has now changed probably twice more meaning we're even further behind yet again etc etc. Not that I'm bitter you understand

VTOL Afterburner
ianh755 replied to Veltro2k's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
What we did with the Kestrel was to borrow the harrier setup where the 4 lift engines do everything (90' down for hovering and then rotate for forward flight) with the 2 rear exhaust positions joined so that it looks like there were only 3 engines. Then we added a 5th engine with no thrust but an AB effect to the tail pipe for the visual effect so while in reality all the thrust all comes from the 4 lift engines it looks like the power comes from AB effect on the 5th engine instead. What I considered doing (but never got around to) was adding an AB to the 4 nozzles but with no visual effect so that when the 5th engine AB effect kicked in there was an extra "shove" which the current setup lacks. It may have made hovering a little more tricky though -
VTOL Afterburner
ianh755 replied to Veltro2k's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Had the same issue with the Kestrel and I tried using both ways (real AB vs visual only AB) ended up with AB as a visual effect only because it was too easy to to hit AB during a hover and flip One thing you can try if you've got just one AB nozzle (F35/Kestrel/Mirage IIIV) is having an invisible AB added to all the engines (no visible effect added) and a visible effect on just the rear engine. This would give you the added power of AB, the stability in a hover (I'd hope, not tried it) and visual look of only 1 AB. -

************************ Royal Navy Sea Kestrel FRS.1/2 for STRIKE FIGHTERS 2 V2.0 ************************ Due to technical internet issues Cocas has asked me to release this for him as he's unable - This is the V2.0 update of Cocas and Spinners fantastic "Sea Kestrel" pack and is a fairly comprehensive overhaul of the original pack with almost everything either new or improved! This pack includes all the Effects, Weapons and Sounds required to run on a standalone setup but it has only been tested on an Full 5 Merged setup. Installation ------------- Unzip then copy and paste the Effects/Flight/Objects/Sounds folders into your Mod folder (usually C:\Users\YOUR NAME\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2 **or whatever yours is called**). AIRCRAFT ------------ Aircraft Specific Info - ---------------------- Sea Kestrel FRS.1 ('88 - '05) - Designed for the Royal Navy as a Fleet Defence Fighter with a secondary ground attack role. The Sea Kestrel's hovering ability allowed the Royal Navy to keep it's carriers smaller and therefore cheaper. All 3 Sqns were painted in Extra Dark Sea Grey with High Viz roundels. Sea Kestrel FRS.2 ('06 - '20) - This massive upgrade saw everything from the engine to weapons to the avionics all hugely upgraded, especially the weapons. It included a new Nose mounted FLIR camera and the ability to carry the more advanced weapons that the RAF had developed for the Navy. All 3 Sqns were repainted into Medium Sea Grey. OTHER INFO ----------- Issues - ------ Hovering is quite difficult at 1st. With a fuel weight of under 25% and no weapons you can hover at around 55% thrust but without a working Nozzle gauge it's difficult to tell where your nozzles are pointing, especially as the 3D model nozzles stop moving at only 40' visually! My recommendation is to apply fully forward nozzles (98.5') and then slowly move it backwards until the engine exhaust dirt looks like it's pointing at 90' but it's not ideal (see Alternate Cockpit below). The mapping is "interesting" in some places with stretching, especially on the 2 Booms. The 3F skin (winter Camo) was really tricky, so much so that I wanted to punch a thousand cute kittens by the end after spending hours/days trying to get the edges to match up! So sadly it's not as good as I'd like but the PS templates are out to so hopefully you can improve on my skin. *******If you find any issues or find that I've got something wrong please contact me on CombatAce - http://combatace.com/user/64030-ianh755/ ******************* ------------------------------------------------- Alternate Cockpit Usage (for Advanced Users only) - ------------------------------------------------- Included in this pack is Bobrocks fantastic Harrier AV-8B cockpit which, as it includes important Nozzle info, makes hovering much easier. However the Cockpit is more limited in comparison to the Kestrel (F-23/29) version so, if you're not bothered about trying to hover that much, I'd stick to the original Cockpit. Installation is simply dropping the Cockpit folder with it's 2 ini's into your A/C and altering the aircraftname.ini to point to the 2 new ini's. I'd make a backup before you though just to be safe! Please use at your own risk, if you don't know how to alter ini files then please don't attempt to install the new cockpit in case you break something! THANKS -------- Massive thanks to Cocas for creating the 3D model and patiently modifying it everytime I asked for any/every crazy little thing! Spinner for his fantastic work with the original Pack. Dels for creating his superb F-23/F-29 cockpit used here with his kind permission. Bobrock for creating his amazing AV-8B cockpit used here with kind permission. Ravenclaw007 for the stunning weapons he makes and I continue to enjoy using. Spillone104 for his Improved Afterburner Effects. The Various Modders who've made the Pilots and Seats which I used from my install but sadly I can't find out who you are to give full credit (please PM me and I'll update this with your name) but I think its' EBurger68, ChrisBV, Ravenclaw007 and EricJ ************************************************************************************* Have fun and thanks for Downloading.............................................IanH ************************************************************************************* -
