  1. The F-5E stick actually has a paddle that the pilot pulls when he is lined up with the runway that extends the nose gear oleo strut some 5 inches. This "cocks" the aircraft to the proper angle of attack for takeoff. From the outside it gives the aircraft a "raked" look and appears similar to what I have seen in pictures of the RN F-4K/M series look like on the catapult ready for launch. I have played around with the following in the F-5E_Data.ini file and have not had much success other than losing the front tire into the runway. Can anyone help me? [AircraftData] EmptyMass=4410.0 EmptyInertia=43106.59,3770.14,46876.72 ReferenceArea=17.30 ReferenceSpan=8.13 ReferenceLength=14.45 CGPosition=0.00,-0.75,0.00 OnGroundPitchAngle=3.0 <-------- Added this ......... [NoseGear] SystemType=LANDING_GEAR Retractable=TRUE DeployTime=5.0 AnimationID=1 DragArea=0.25 HideGearNode=TRUE ModelNodeName=FrontStruct InsideNodeName= ShockNodeName=Frontdump ShockAnimationID=5 <--------Changed to FGRMk2 (F-4M) shock animation ShockStroke=0.4 <--------Changed to FGRMk2 (F-4M) shock stroke //ShockAnimationID=2 //ShockStroke=0.25 ........
  2. This did not appear to work either. I am thinking that some sort of animation would be best since it is a pilot initiated action on the runway ready for takeoff. However, an animation is way beyond what I can do now. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.
  3. Your picture reflects what I am talking about as does this F_5E_Loading.bmp from Airliners.Net by Karl Drage You can see the extended nose wheel oleo in the "cocked position". Flying the F-5 was not very different from flying the T-38 other than the feeling of a more sturdy frame and more powerful engines. The jet is relatively simple, quick and reliable. Quick in response to every input, she was small enough to really 'feel' throughout the flight envelope. She is very difficult to see in a dogfight and is about the same size and performance as a MiG-21. That is why the USAF and the USN chose her for adversary training. She fades in comparison to today's fighters, and has always had inadequate (if any) radar, but she is still a shot in the arm to fly and deadly if not treated with respect to adversaries.
  4. Thanks AmokFloo. I am a beginner at modding the INI files and I know I am nit-picking about the F-5E looking right for takeoff, but she is so cool when she is "cocked and locked". I now know what not to do. Anybody else have any ideas?
  5. Happy Birthday......

Happy Birthday! Having birthdays beats the alternative any day.
  6. Met an ANG bloke who had a patch on his sleeve declaring the F-86 as the last of the sport models and I think I agree with him. It has only been lately that the aircraft industry has been able to match the nimble Sabre for pure maneuverability. Can you imagine a Sabre with a current turbofan in it? In advance, kudos to USAFMTL and all others who are bringing the skies over Korea back to life.
  7. The only real picture here is the U-2, which was fully carrier qualified. Had a tailhook that could be installed, the flaps could be adjusted to go 40 degrees down (normal max is 30 degrees), and the wingtips folded to get down the ship's elevator. It was so easy with an approach speed of 70 mph that the carrier normally would have to slow down. With a good sea breeze, you could literally hover over the deck and fly to the space they wanted you to park. After landing the carrier had to slow to just headway until the U-2 was stored as it has a tendency to fly off of the deck unless clamped down securely. NAS Lemoore had a carrier deck painted on its landing strip and we used to fly down to practice there from Beale AFB, CA. No offense to the tailhook types, but there really wasn't much to it. Have to admit that I never tried it in a Rhino at night and in a bad sea state (except in this sim). My hat is off to those who have done so.
  8. Then again, real men don't need anyone to tell them how to be real men! You are or your are not.
  9. Really nice work. Look forward to the release.
  10. OK, I am going to build a machine to fly the Third Wire series with everything turned on and expecting the full experience. What do I load it up with? What is floating around in your hardware dreams you need to get out into the open. I have an unlimited budget until my wife finds out about it, so I need stuff I cannot give back. Cut loose, guys. Let me know what you would buy where you could do it all!!!!
  11. Well, I took the Test today......

Best of luck to you SidDogg.
  12. Anybody think TK might have in mind a WWII playground? It is the only missing part of his kit. Wouldn't that be sweet and a real reward to the modders out there who have produced such quality WWII stuff.
  13. SHACK!

Bounder, Good research, thanks. And to our warrior in transition, welcome home, a job well done.
  14. My vote is for the F-101 Voodoo, the F-102 Delta Dart, Tu-128 Fiddler, Su-25 Frogfoot, and the Bucaneer
  15. At the dollars per unit level, I am of the opinion we should buy some too. Replace our aging F-15 fleet.
  16. Moonjumper put an IDF F-4ES Phantom here and I downloaded it 5/12/2006. Is this the same bird brought up to spec for the various patches? Nice work anyway.
  17. You gentlemen do excellent work. Well done! I cannot wait to take a F-111 through the mountains as fast as it will go. Lifting a wake over the water at low level and blowing a path through snow would really be a neat effect, wouldn't it? Sorta like the Firefox blowing through the Urals in the movie of the same name.
  18. Wow! This is so good! Where is it available for download? Am I, once again, the last to know?
  19. You are not alone. Been waiting for two days myself. This had better get easier to do, or I will quit being lazy and make my own missions.
  20. Love to be a fly on the wall at Boeing military after the announcement. Bunch of fat cats standing around wondering when their time is to put their neck on the block. They don't understand that that time arrived about two years ago when they started putting their plan together. I still hate to lose jobs to the European companies, but looks kind of good for Alabama. Congratulations to NG and to our military for the decision. Business as usual may have moved a bit. We shall see if the politicans will really move this back across the pond. Aren't they fun to watch squirm and aren't they soooooo predictable.
  21. I do indeed. What's the fix, remove the entire effects package?
  22. Any cigar smokers out there?

You've broken the code there, girl. Most guys smoke cigars to run off the insects when they are playing golf and to run off the women in the poker room. No offense, it is what it is.
  23. Any old double-ugly with a gun. However, the skill of the front seat gunner and the chemistry between him and the GIB (guy in back) makes the most dangerous, and, thereby, my favorite, Fox Four. Put the Cunningham team in the driver seat and my bet would be on them driving a Navy (yikes) B model armed with nothing but piss-poor Aim-9Bs.
