Wings Over Flanders Fields - the CombatAce Review, part 3
Polovski replied to 33LIMA's topic in Game Reviews
One other point in training, the instructor messages won't appear top of the screen but if you bring up the TAC display your instructor will talk to you via that, includes such things as where to fly and how, and what speed and so on. -
Flying the Sopwith Snipe - Videos by Kermit Weeks
Polovski replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
It's a great thing he is doing letting enthusiasts who may never get to fly in one a taste of what it's like, complete with excellent info. He answers the sort of questions people often have, great stuff. -
Install the patches you can still get the old files from a section on the new WOFF website. There's a link on the front page, but.. http://www.overflandersfields.com/Previous.html Install the 1.32 and 1.32g updates, then click on "graphics config" in workshop. See the old Phase 3 FAQ too right at the start goes over all this. FAQ found on that page too. Step by step under " 1) HINTS AND TIPS 1.1) INSTALLATION SETTINGS AND GRAPHICS" Or better still get WOFF and be blown away with it (and the much easier setup and config ;) )

Superb UK_W thanks, makes you realise how many 1000s of photos must get chucked out each year all round the world not captured by a someone like him. He also only saw ones he noticed falling out, or in the back of the lorry so must be more even he missed.

Full interview with Cecil Lewis
Polovski replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Yes for once well done to the BBC for digging these out, wonderful to see him in the flesh so to speak. Also Norman Macmillan is a great interview too, him flying through a "tunnel" of arcing shell fire ground straifing - sounded like it really hit home the horrors.- 1 reply

Wings Over Flanders Fields - the CombatAce Review, part 3
Polovski replied to 33LIMA's topic in Game Reviews
Many thanks for a thorough review 33Lima - the detail we put in there needs a reviewer to take some time to absorb and explain and you have done a great job of that. -
For sure so many variables and few definitive answers :/. The weather was bad around 16/17th December in France not sure what it was like in UK or that specific area who knows - we don't even know if it was specifically a fine day in the area of the test or a particularly cold day. Same applies to any recorded figures out there from that time at least, and most modern 'replicas' are obviously not quite the same. As you say any given aircraft each day would produce a different test result then - sometimes wildly.

Sop Triplane 130Hp was fast, Lamberton 117@ 5000ft. The War in the Air H.A Jones 116 @6500ft K Munson 116 @ 6500ft AC in Profile 187kph@2000m approx 116@6500. Wiki 117 mph (187 km/h) at 5,000 ft (1,830 m) Sopwith Triplane Aces of WW1 Norman Franks, "120mph at 10000ft. " "...and as Dallas and the RNAS test pilots had discovered, the combination of this motor (130HP Clerget) and the Triplane's unique wing arrangement gave this machine a phenomenal rate of climb, exemplary manoeuvrability and a top speed of 120mph at 10000ft. (!) "as Naval Pilots found in 1917, the Triplane was generally 15 mph faster than the German Albatros DIII fighter, and the Sopwith machine could out-climb out-turn it." As always plenty of fudge around and debatable points and contradictory information, but there are a few.

Germans not interested in WWI anniversary?
Polovski replied to JimAttrill's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Sure Olham more sense if it's only the loss you are commemorating, and I am sure they will have an event for that too, but the start is a pretty world shattering significant date is it not? So it's very appropriate to remember it and hopefully by doing so other war starts may be avoided, even if one is then it's worth while. -
Germans not interested in WWI anniversary?
Polovski replied to JimAttrill's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I think usually it's a remembrance here in the UK rather than a "celebration", the word is used loosely if in that context, or we celebrate the men and women in wars who sacrificed - not the war itself. -
We are looking at the DV (and other Albatros craft at the moment) to see if there are any errors or improvements we can make - no promises of course but we also do not want to end up with unbalance either, something we did work on since the beginning of P1 even!
-
Just to clarify some things. Adding 2 degrees to the lower wing will not achieve what you think it will. We missed it because it will make no real difference in sim. The *.xfm txt file does part of the job - RexH's code interprets the data as required by the sim. For example the Gyro makes little difference to inline engines as he deals with it differently. Regarding breaking AI - it's not a red herring, we do not make daft statements for no reason . The AI are trained on every FM. RexH designed the AI and new FM changes so he should know. AI may break at various places, including when damaged, altitude, different formations or in rare situations etc, odd manoeuvres or other strange behaviour. The fact it's OK well lucky :) Just because some sources say x and 1 says y doesn't make the 1 wrong obviously but I am not going to get into a debate - also sometimes we chose to go various for all sorts of reasons, or because it makes sense to the AI or other reasons. The Merc engine was upgraded and improved all along for sure, we do not have many variants of each craft unfortunately. For every stat one way there are others another way, we think the balance is pretty good but yes you may not.

How do you guys get such dramatic screenies...?
Polovski replied to Hauksbee's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Most of us just press some buttons and look at the key guide or key bindings ;) Heck I even did that in BF4 -

Also there is the experimental observer view ("J"). See the FAQ on usage. -
Here I am at 12.20 am and need sleep just not enough hours in the day to keep posting in many forums often and keep working on WOFF so much wish I could. If you need to post all WW1 stuff and other sims then perhaps the forum name should be changed to "WW1 stuff?"
-
That's in RoF though of course? Probably wrong forum for that!
-
As Typhoon says, it includes ALL PREVIOUS patches. Also in the history of changes; http://www.overflandersfields.com/Downloads/History%20of%20Changes.txt ***** NOTE: Latest update patch always INCLUDES all previous improvements, changes, and fixes **** If it was not, new customers would have rather a problem to update ?

You can choose "air start" for missions even in campaign to cut out the take off and making your way to the mission point.
-
Sorry Hauksbee by the way we moved the post to technical section but lost it completely by mistake on SimHQ. One day maybe meant "maybe in the future once upon a time..." not it will take one day.

The Illustrated BOC News, December 11, 2013
Polovski replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
LOL Lou that's fantastic many thanks ;) Would look good on the website somewhere ! -
Thanks for those who support us. One thing, if you wait until later in 2014 to buy there may not be a sim to buy by then! We are very small team and need all the funds to carry on working on WOFF and pay the bills -one thing we will not be, from spending 4 years on this with little $ in the meantime, is rich. Serious flight sims in general are a very small niche market these days. So even though it's the similar price to BF4.. they sell a few MILLION copies more ;) For most people who will get many many hours of enjoyment there is so much to see in WOFF and so much detail and features added over 4 years. So we really believe with all that in mind the $ amount is easily worth it.
-
Great UK_W :) No you don't need to unsinstall P3.
-
Thanks Javito, exactly. We are not going to sell anywhere near those numbers of those types of products - WW1 is a very niche group (or flight sims in general) these days, and the dev work /return ratio is extremely poor so not surprising. We need your support to carry on guys.
-
Thanks guys, WOFF took a lot longer than planned. but also has more features in there than planned so we think it's very worth it, for the years of sweat and tears, and your years of enjoyment hopefully!
-
All of them I think ;)
