  1. British Twoseater Campaign

No, AI craft and player craft of an aircraft type use the same settings from the same XDP files. If to some it seems to use different settings I have no idea why. Note if you mod one, you need to mod ALL copies of that model to be the same or yes, you will see different things from AI flown craft and player craft. We try to get some kind of realistic behaviour by using more realistic commonly used arc areas i.e. where the gunner may usually fire from in normal use. Yes we have to restrict the arcs in some craft differently to give a better overall experienc and balance for certain craft. AI does not feel G forces for example and has no idea what a "fuselage" is on your craft ;). You would die all the time approaching an unrestricted AI arc. Phase 4 is totally different but we shall see :). 4. On the gun mounts; of course we know how real ones worked but making extra pivots and new ways to move is too much work currently too many issues would arise. There are many odd mounts too that would all need special code and animation to cope with (for example some craft have odd mounts or multiple mounts with 1 gun). P5 or P78 maybe if we don't shoot ourselves with the modded gun mounts first.
  2. Rear Gunner Questions

Lol Olham, we are full of surprises eh?
  3. Rear Gunner Questions

It doesn't "cheat" in that way and as far as I know uses the same code for gunners aiming if you are in the craft as pilot or not, but as many didn't like the fact that gunners could shoot down through their own tail we had to limit it some (was a poll at some point I think). So it is what it is. AI isn't clever like a human we take so much for granted that a human does, but when you come to make a computer think or behave like a human it's very difficult and detailed. There usually no "ooo there's a tail in the way and it's mine, perhaps I'd better not shoot it off". There's so much to it when you delve in (BH will know this I am sure). Anyway just a note P4 is a whole different ball game ...
  4. Stupid anti-virus question!

NOD32 for me all day long superb program used it for many years, extremely low resources and good protection.
  5. A couple of OFF "cheats" for you.

Some good things in there at least :) BTW silly accidents even at low speed can kill people we know that from all things in life. Even just falling over can kill. IIRC one of Cecil Lewis' friends was taxing on the airfield and was killed when his craft hit a pot hole and flipped. All those bullets with intent did nothing, but a simple pot hole on the ground got him.
  6. A couple of OFF "cheats" for you.

No worries HPW there will be errors even though we check and recheck stuff as we go, always unexpected ways to mess things up let alone the human brain fuzzing! Yes BH I'm sure you have had those moments, I wouldn't care if I hadn't spent so long trying things out checking for wheels on the ground thousands of, and then wing scrape tests etc. Problem was going back to older backups was no good as it had been corrupting for some time :/
  7. A couple of OFF "cheats" for you.

There are 209398484 amounts (+/-) of data to check and several human errors in contact points is unavoidable. Also all that going through 3+ versions of OFF and the fact that each one has to be measured and entered manually including x,y,z and +/- to indicate direction and with slightly varing models variants. Just the contacts alone (and the 2000 tests per craft) where enough to drive me insane let alone the FM testing. Also through 20 or 30 or can't remember versions of AirWrench (a fantastic program by Jerry, but like all good programs still has some bugs over the years). At some point Airwrench unfortunately actually altered many numbers of contacts due to a bug which copied the PREVIOUS aircraft contacts cfg settings to the next one. Boy that was a joyous moment discovering that and then redoing them ALL It will make NO difference to any issue above if you adjust the upper wing contact by .3 of a meter believe me. When we come to check things like contacts again send me anything you find HPW please, much appreciated.
  8. Yeah plus the sesqui-wing on the Noops and later in the Albatros gives a goodish down view to compensate. Some might have a super windscreen but horrible wing placements (DH5 great forward, awful behind) or engine (DFW cough).
  9. The screens are as they were, and the heads are placed where they should be. Many of the Nieuports' windows you could not fold down, and they were cramped. Try zooming out a notch or two with [ ] keys? or change the FoV in workshop. Or press F3 and have a totally uncluttered view. Nice and easy but not realistic but we can't change them without changing the aircraft to something it wasn't? For me this is the whole point of flying WW1 - tasting the difficulties pilots had to deal with back, when you cannot trim out many craft, or they are often poor view, (Dh5 rear?) poor power (Pup), with poor guns (most early Allied!) and us poor sods have to fly these deathtraps ;) Try the DFW if you really want to see what a poor view is like ! With TIR it helps you can move around some, plus you can lean in to the glass to see more or move back etc. Or press F4 to get an outside view for ultimate comfort :) Once you have oil soaked goggles in the 100mph wind I'm sure the real one would quiet be tricky too so at least we don't have that to deal with I guess.
  10. Head bob please

That's fine if you are happy, but I totally disagree with that for TrackIR at least. If you are moving that far with your eyes and head then you need to adjust the sensitivity up a lot. It should be a subtle movement of your real head - mine I move about an inch either side to look fully right left so don't notice it. Set it with a suitable dead zone area to avoid twitches moving the view too much. You can also have an exponential curve so as you move more the on screen head increases movement. After a week or so you should not even think or notice the TIR being there. If you do then it needs adjusting more. Maybe some of the free ones need more tweaking don;t know I can only refer to TrackIR. The fact you can look over the side and down looking for aircraft or targets or when landing, or lift your head and look over the wing in an instant or track an aircraft yourself even ducking under a wing to see, or lean trying to REALLY align the gun sight to your moving target - so many things make it so much more realistic. These all help to avoid the static view effect. But each to his own. Almost everyone who tries TrackIR finds it amazing but occasionally someone doesn't like it that's fine but I wouldn't let that put the vast majority off from enjoying it.
  11. Does P4 get it's own name?

Wow Matt found this thread from June 2009 yikes, and resurrected it lol. We should probably do a competition again. I'd like a name that is very very short as I am fed up of typing it in full!
  12. Head bob please

Given we are well along development so not easy to plonk in new graphic changes even if possible, BUT TrackiR gives you a lot of this feeling, it makes you free and you are then moving all the time and it definitely isn't stactic at all. It's like going from a keyboard to Joystick for a flight sim, it's that revolutionary and necessary. If you cannot afford it there are several cheap or free head tracking kits using cheap web cams so I would try those Wodin.
  13. Engine damage questions

I agree knowing too much spoils the magic, something that curses you get when start digging into things as a developer. But saying that Phase 4 has us enjoying flying again so something must be good :)
  14. Engine damage questions

Fuel loss from direct hits will vary plus don't forget if you sit there flying straight in tests you WILL get hits all over the "target" area. All pilots know where to aim just some can get more on target. The fuel tank in the DM is usually where the main tank is in real life where possible - often near the pilot or near the engine etc. Normally you are jinking to avoid getting holes of course. There are many "empty" areas for bullets to pass through, craft are wood and canvas of course so basically in real life many bullets will travel through until they hit something that stops them - you (partially), the fuel tank, oil tank, engine or perhaps a metal cowl or strut. We carefully represent that by allowing parts to be seen from the rear at some angles. As far as I know CFS3 engine doesn't allow for bullets to go through damage boxes, although you can link them to give very rough % split but we try to avoid that. So we have to allow some bleed from the rear. We could in theory shrink the boxes so they are much smaller than the actual area the object takes up - and this would make it tougher. Some people will not like the toughness then and it's harder to vary if the model itself has hard coded boxes. HPW can beef the Phase 3 damage amounts as he has in his mods, and as we had previously in Phase 1 and 2, or we can beef it some by shrinking actual damage boxes to be smaller than the parts (MAY be possible in P4 depending on other changes) but of course then it is hard coded more - we shall see anyway. Engine's can fail from damage and oil can leak etc. Oil pressure gauge is on some craft (plus dark smoke behind helps ;))
  15. P4 DEVELOPMENT SCREENSHOTS

Hehe as WM says perfectly good reason then :)
  16. P4 DEVELOPMENT SCREENSHOTS

See you left the party early then turn up again late and miss all the good chat ;) - we said all along the campaign is being improved but just currently we don't want to talk about exactly what is new in there. AI was being redone we have mentioned a few times. You must have missed those posts being away for a while BH.
  17. changing Squadron roll

BTW your bomb loadout is always configurable on craft that carried bombs. If you want to fly with bombs then choose them in the loadout box (bottom right in the mission briefing screen in campaign). i.e. you can choose to always take some with you. Some craft you cannot use of course, but most 2 seaters and some allied fighters have the choice (Se5a for example), rockets on some others.
  18. Hat in the ring expired

lederhosen it doesn't make any sense, there is no expiring license with it. If you mean you went to download it again and had a message about expired link then.... from the FAQ "OTHER KNOWN HITR ISSUES" PLEASE don't forget to make a good backup of the OverFlandersFields_HitR.zip file somewhere safe for future use (on external USB or on a backup DVD) in case you need to reinstall HITR after rebuilding your PC for example. Due to the time involved we cannot re issue downloads if you did not purchase download insurance when you purchased, and your initial link has since expired." If you buy download insurance the link is active for two years or something. Did you order from our website? Otherwise what do you mean exactly, what did you click on and what did you see?
  19. P4 DEVELOPMENT SCREENSHOTS

Thanks Olham no problem I just wanted to make clear it's not only driven by a choice but more to do with hours-in-the-day (and night). Maybe one day we can just ask a computer do it all for us - I tried asking my mouse like Scotty in Star Trek 4 but so far no go :) We will be more specific with what is there and is not when we are closer to done. We have posted at least some pics of most craft.
  20. Just back from WWI fly in at AF Museum

Super pics HPW thanks. That baby seems to have very thick wings interesting.
  21. P4 DEVELOPMENT SCREENSHOTS

Sure I would like to do a FE2d but time is ticking on, and many other things need to be completed so no time at the moment. We have always wanted more 2 seaters but most people want all the main fighters first. Most of the new craft in Phase 4 are 2 seaters we cannot do more than we have as we have a very small team (smaller even compared to the other "small" teams other sims) and we decided we also like to sleep sometimes! I know very selfish but the 100 yard stare was frightening the missus. We live in a instant world but this all takes silly amounts of time. It takes many weeks for us to fully complete a really good 2 seater (with all the parts to it, exterior (easiest bit), 2 cockpits, artwork and a lot of other mostly unseen work plus FM, research, exterior skins, Squads, Manager options, testing and fixing etc. If we had not updated all the aircraft and cockpits we could have done more of course but they had to be done. The lady pic is still there BH ;), just pinned under the left side inside the pit. The smokes were funny but not in keeping with the rest of the craft (and were bad for you so we had to remove, but bullets whizzing by as you sit near a fuel tank passed Health and Safety checks with flying colours hurrah!) We can do all things and make them all super perfect if we released in 2021! BTW the Snipe only took 3 or 4 years of begging ;)
  22. Just back from WWI fly in at AF Museum

Sounds great HPW but yes its time for that emoticon Looking forward to some of those :)
  23. Tame opposition

Of course mods are often fine, and we all like using mods for sims and games. The problem is things can go wrong with user side too - installing, moving or editing files for example. Or say sometimes the modder had no idea that the developers changed the meaning of a setting or variable that can cause knock on effects is another example. Anyway for these reasons and more it's impossible for us to help anyone with altered files (most support is on the same basis). Led - if you get it clean and still have a problem also check which AI you have set in workshop if you have HITR installed. Also make sure you fully patched BH&H first before installing HITR if you have it, and patch HITR too. http://www.overflandersfields.com/FAQ.htm#Installation_and_settings Also check no AV is blocking OFF.dll or OFFManager.
  24. Engine damage questions

Fuel leaks are there (as are oil, coolant). Sometimes from different locations but some could be small /feint. Also check the effects slider make sure it's on 5.
