Help on "contextualizing" this great game
Polovski replied to stefnuts's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
It's such a large subject it's hard to condense it, I can highly recommend "The First Air War: 1914-1918" by Lee Kennet which gives a good overall view. It gives the build up and also discusses attitudes to aircraft usage early on and so on. Probably best to research a couple of squadrons, or aircraft types, and then try them in the sim as a start. -
The sliders are not the same as CFS3, they are generally +2. So 3 = 5 now in OFF etc. So if it doesn't like high settings that's because your CPU/GPU/memory isn't happy so set it lower ;) Terrain and Scenery are massively improved from CFS3 and so high sliders will tax your system a LOT. Set those two to "3" is the best general rule and see if all is well, then maybe try 4,4 on high end systems. Best avoid 5,5 even on high systems.

Some installation questions
Polovski replied to Blackdogkt's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - General Help
The screenshots and movies on the website are what it looks like on a good system you need to check you have installed it properly if it's no where near those. Follow the FAQ closely at the top. -
Loosing my "automatic sign in "
Polovski replied to CW3SF's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hi CW3SF, if you mean the forum, I always seem to be logged in, usually firefox or IE (later versions) ask you if you want to remember the password and auto logon next time when you log in and then stay logged in as long as the browser is up (unless you are talking about your bank then they will kick you out after a few minutes of inactivity on their site ;)). If you change password, Firefox would ask you to remember the new password instead, not sure with IE. I never have a problem with it auto logging me out thought so not sure why that would be. Might be best to post in a more general forum if no WW1 fans can help more. -

CFS3 Configuration won't save in Windows 7?
Polovski replied to MikeDixonUK's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Oh the other important thing, mentioned in the FAQ, if you have trouble setting up graphics or controllers.. install DirectX 9! http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=3b170b25-abab-4bc3-ae91-50ceb6d8fa8d AVG has been known to freak a little with OFF Manager in the past, so if the above doesn't work disable it temporarily and see if that works - not that it's Cfs3.exe but just a thought. -
Great thanks for posting those ReDDot they will help others. Glad you like OFF. If you don't mind I may update the graphics tips in the FAQ with your tips there given it's for the new ATI driver?

CFS3 Configuration won't save in Windows 7?
Polovski replied to MikeDixonUK's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
OFF works fine in Windows 7 so something it screwed somewhere ;) If you installed to various places sounds like you may have some mix ups on folders or registry. Best to clean out all traces from all places before installing again. That includes registry (see FAQ) Answer 21 Make sure you updated properly BH&H then 2 patches for it , then HITR if you have it and it's patch. Make sure it's the CFS3.exe in your "CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields" folder that you set the compatibility mode to. Check you have not got more than 1 folder now with OFF installed to. Use the "Config Graphics" button in OFF "Workshop" to launch the cfsconfig instead. Check you have no AV blocking the CFS3Config from writing to the app data folder check it;s log or try disabling. Using MSE by any chance ? default: C:\Users\YOUR LOGON NAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields You can attempt a Reset CFS3 in the workshop see if that helps before the reinstall. -

P4 isn't finished so all the details are not available and not released yet, but it will be fully independent of any current release. -

Some installation questions
Polovski replied to Blackdogkt's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - General Help
Welcome Blackdogkt and crash101. @Blackdogkt: The freeware Phase2 is officially unsupported. Our very small team is slaving away on p4 currently so cannot offer much help on old free Phase 2 questions but you may find help in the P2 sub forum if any user is there who can help in similar siuation. Also there is info in the FAQ which although for the commercial Phase 3, will in part will apply to Phase 2 in some areas - such as regional settings - although P3 needs less tweaking in that area normally it still may need some as in the FAQ). Yes there are registry settings left over and a clean uninstall is required, again search through the FAQ you'll probably see similar for Phase 3 mentioned on removal (can't guarantee it as a lot has improved and changed in P3 +) One caution, older versions of OFF such as Phase2 may not work on Vista or Windows 7 (OFF P2 was made way before). Newer versions such as Phase 3 and the Hat in the Ring expansion were well tested on Vista and also works fine on Windows 7 (32 and 64) with a couple of settings (FAQ). @Crash101 For Phase 3 there is a manual (3 in fact) in the MANUALS folder in \OBDSoftware\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields. Also again see the FAQ right at the start it tells you this, plus points to some great key guides. Cheers Pol FAQ is linked from our main website as per my signature. -
Yeah if you have the TrackClip pro thing then move the TIR (v4 or v5) to your left a bit. (mine is about 1/4 from the left hand side of widescreen monitor). If you don't have that could just need adjusting (angle of sensor, move it away a bit etc).

Great, free W64bit DDS Viewer
Polovski replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Sounds interesting will check it. As an alternative, Irfanview works for me too in Win 7 64. Open 1 dds in Irfanview, press T, loads of thumbnails load up (size configurable). Only downer is it doesn't save DDS but you can open and then send to another app such as DXT2BMP or Photoshop whatever to edit. -
Seems mainly so carrick I recognise a few.

Seems the 1938 one follows this closely but great to see any WW1 movie :)

P4 DEVELOPMENT SCREENSHOTS UPDATED
Polovski replied to Polovski's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
We do not have a complete feature list yet, so I won't say a complete list at this stage apart from what has already been seen in the screenshots. Morane L is currently 2 seater version, but I can't say if other versions will be there yet - possibly. We do not have many modellers (!) so there won't be dozens of new craft coming out all at once. So far we have shown new craft such as Gotha G.IV, HP O400, Snipe, Morane L, Aviatik, Rumpler. We also have one or two brand new replacement models of other craft (DH2 for example) not yet shown. Replacing or updating dozens of cockpits is a big enough job for our tiny team (other sims have several times more people) and given the time needed to make a complete working craft in the sim apart from the externals there are obviously the associated other jobs from basic textures, cockpits, FMs, DMs, Squads in the manager and sometimes code to support them, squad skins etc as you know. When we have things almost ready we'll be more prepared to say all the features These new screenshots are to give you a taste, they are not the whole picture, and are not intended to be! -
Skinning Woes
Polovski replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - Skinning / Modeling Help
nbryant you mean the _S texture? Best if you start as you do already I think then manually lighten and darken areas as required where you want shine if that's what you are referring to. Otherwise not sure I tend to use the burn and dodge tools myself on new copies of the layers for darkening, and use various blending on layers and various opacity settings. The artists and skinners would know more. -

P4 DEVELOPMENT SCREENSHOTS UPDATED
Polovski replied to Polovski's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Thanks guys, yes Aviatik is there and a Rumpler (work in progress). I have flown the Snipe to test for WM, looks great and the pit view is handy enough for picking out the enemies. FM is still WIP but so far is good fun. -
Skinning Woes
Polovski replied to UK_Widowmaker's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - Skinning / Modeling Help
BTW be careful not to open a DDS you have previously saved to do more work on it, each time you do you will add more noise and corruption as a DDS is compressed. Always keep a PSD or BMP etc original. Also check what DDS type you saved as, some will not work in CFS3 properly. Aircraft ones should be saved as DDS1 / DXT1 no alpha usually. -
eBay bargain, grab it now for $10.00,
Polovski replied to RAF_Louvert's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
I love it when Frank talking about flying the Eindecker E.III says "...Boelcke and Immelmann received the Pour le Mérite flying E III's... ...and as far as this slightly chicken aviator is concerned, anyone who would loop the E III and then half roll on top deserves this decoration" -
TIR Attack problem - help needed please!
Polovski replied to vonOben's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Yes you can use Freetrack there's a link on the compatibility page (from Combat Flight sim 3) to an extra util you would need TIRattack (not tried it) Also see FaceTrackNoIR http://facetracknoir.sourceforge.net/home/default.htm they have added OFF support too (there is an OverFlandersFields.ini ) see their website. I tried v1.4 briefly with a webcam and it worked.
