Leutnant von Richthofen's first claim
Polovski replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
300 bullets and he was 10m away - I think we mentioned it was better to get in close but wow. -
Did you ever let your opponent go?
Polovski replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
It's a tough one, let him go and he will come back and maybe take one of yours, but we are human and you have to do what you think it right. BTW that's an example of AI running for home I mentioned that does happen. His craft is damaged or he's had enough. -
Thanks CS I think there might be a copy glitch afterall but we'll see.

Great, nice brooding atmosphere Dej.

Texture memory on the video card overloaded sounds like. Try turning something down a notch if it happens again. Maybe next time you see it, when you end the flight go to \OBDSoftware\CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields\Campaigns\CampaignData\ and send the OFFLog.txt to us and we'll see if there's anything else but unlikely.

Interesting debate but at the end of the day players have variable talents and preferences, so we research and build it how we feel it should be then add some extras for people to customize some that is all we can do of course. Sure, I didn't say dramatic large drunken ;) movements, but all the forces I mentioned will contribute sometime or other. Just a few small movements (1 or 2 inches even) would be enough at range. WW1 craft are also definitely worse and more effort to keep lined up than modern light craft. Yes too many forces and distractions. However the main point is getting in close is usually more effective. For most situations hitting the craft is not the point - hitting a vital areas is. Cecil Lewis and pilots came back most times with at least 30+ holes in the craft from combat and ground fire, mostly nothing vital hit.

Can the game-save path be changed to another drive?
Polovski replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
No you can install any drive you like Olham, but it always saves pilot names etc data to the game's folder, and also saves info into the CFS3 data files (to the path you gave above). These would need to match up of course. If you have 30 pilots in the off folder but the old data you restored to C: only knows of 7 then that would be likely problem. If you install OFF to a different drive then the pilots data saved into the OFF game folders will not match the CFS3 data stored on C: anymore (which is older restored data) So you need to backup all the data in ...AppData > Roaming > Microsoft > CFSWW1 Over Flanders Fields.. I'd say and also restore that after the older C: restore. if you installed OFF to C: too then at least the data in OFF and Appdata would match although newer pilots would have been lost of course if you did not backup everyday. If it's important to you then I suggest you do a DAILY backup all your cfs3 data files both in Appdata.. and in OFF campaigndata folder and zip them up somewhere every day? -
I don't think anyone is doubting that guns themselves are accurate. Or doubting that fixed guns are going to be more accurate in that they fire bullets with less spread (if the thing it is strapped to stays still). The main issue with accuracy is that it is the aircraft the gun is strapped to that is not accurate. not the gun as such. So when Bullethead says ".. free guns are affected by the airplane's own forward motion and fixed guns aren't." This very fact that they are fixed means that although internally the guns may not be affected, the aim and affectiveness is, maybe even more so than the free gun. If your craft is moving off target due to all the natural forces, so are your fixed guns. A rear gunner can redirect his gun against the change in direction of the craft - the pilot has to try to regain direction control and get the craft back on his needed line, whilst also trying to get his head in position to aim better or watch for tracer angle. Also don't forget the pilot too is affected by forces and wind whilst he tries to aim and fly. The craft is being affected by 100 mph wind from the airspeed with G forces applied, random air pockets and so on. So your effective direction of the craft, and therefore of the gun itself, will certainly not always be where it needs to be to hit effectively. For WW1 craft we also have other forces such as torque and gyro being applied which affects the craft directional control and therefore the aim of your fixed gun. Whilst trying to fly this quirky high drag vice ridden WW1 craft ;) your aim tools (head and Mark.I eyeball) are also checking your shoulder every few seconds in a dogfight. There could also be swirling from the air vortices caused by the craft ahead of you too which will push your craft and therefore your gun off target. Another point is this swirl would not affect a rear gunner (when the pilot is not directly chasing the enemy) who is aiming at a rear target instead. In all this we also would usually have a dodging enemy so getting in close would help ensure that when you did press fire, he is so big in your vision that bullets are bound to hit something. There are plenty of references to getting in as close as possible in WW1 craft many aces did so this cannot have been without good reason. No sim reproduces all forces applied so in sim is not the same, it's impossible to model everything.

Can the game-save path be changed to another drive?
Polovski replied to Olham's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
But were did you install OFF to? If it was also on C: and you backed it up as an image of C: then I can't see why that wouldn't work unless acronis skipped some files or didn't backup the registry?? If the latter, then of course you'd normally need to reinstall to get those settings back. -
Thanks for the boost guys we appreciate it.

No worries thanks Olham worth the discussion - P4 is well under way so many things we have already decided or planned so don't worry.
-
Yes absolutely. They are different models and specifically added to the VC as a feature. They are animated, and often without the head for the reason described. We also created new models for the exterior view from the standard CFS3 ones. No problem that's why I had to comment though obviously if they were mistakes we would not have left them in. Mostly P3 craft had pilots added, some do not have them as the models were already made previously, and we didn't have time to go and add to all craft for P3 given they have to be animated linked to controllers, rudder pedals etc.
-
Yes you can do it by mistake, but the models in the Virtual cockpit in OFF are specifically added, not by mistake. Of course we can't add the head of the figure you are viewing from, as yes you would see inside the object if you move your "eyes". Olham there are no headless objects in 2 seaters except the ones you are currently viewing FROM. i.e. If you extend or move your view extreme away from where your eyes are meant to be you will then see it without the head. The gunner if YOU are the gunner will have no head.

Listen to the pilot accounts in the Credits in OFF - the 2nd interview of a Be2 pilot who was very upset his corporal gunner opens up at a range around 150 yards (range was excessive he says) as the bullets were totally inaffective. I sure these guys knew what they were talking about, must be due to the wind and G-forces and movement in the air as mentioned. Its not impossible just often wasteful of your precious ammo (no one coming to bring you more in the air ;). MvR was hit by a long range bullet when he thought he was far enough away, as he must have done that many many times and never been hit. So possible to hit at range, but less likely.

What is controlling the AI?
Polovski replied to DukeIronHand's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
As we said before, if we made it so that if you ever died once in sim, just the once, then we formatted your hard drive and set fire to your PC so you can never ever play OFF again, you'd stay away from trouble at all times. I suspect that would take down the kills dramatically ;). A sim can never be real life for that reason alone, but we do make you care about your pilot which helps. Currently in P3 AI do run for home ( I see them often) they just are usually sitting ducks and get taken out by players or some players don't notice that 1 craft left the fight etc. We are looking at the AI as WM says lets see where it goes :) -
The feature list on the "Hat in the Ring!" expansion is shown on our website.. http://www.overflandersfields.com/Addon1.htm

Sounds like you forgot to patch BH&H first too before installing HITR maybe? Remove all traces of OFF (including anything in the full steps are clearly listed in the FAQ.. http://overflandersfields.com/FAQ#Installation_and_settings (maybe clean out what you have so far, http://overflandersfields.com/FAQ#A21 about half way through that question see "How to Clean OFF P2 registry settings in: Vista or Windows 7"

* * PHASE 4 WORK IN PROGRESS SCREEN SHOTS! * * FEB 2011! * *
Polovski replied to Polovski's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Just a heads up I uploaded some much newer shots of the HP and Snipe. Refresh on the gallery page to check for new pics, in Fireefox you may need to clear your cache completely to see the new pics. Firefox: Tools, Options, Advanced, Network tab, click "Clear now" which should remove any cached files. -
Starting to go off topic there Tamper someone asked for screenshots. If you zoom your view out you may see bands at the side if in cloud, zoom in a notch and see, or set to default view. Best to always post questions about issues in other threads. Anyway maybe instead try setting your view in workshop - Olham did a whole thread on setting that. Getting back on topic; of course it's been few weeks since the last update but we were planning to do an update shortly. Just hang in there guys we are a small team and very busy trying to get through the huge list of things to do for P4 as well as other things like updating the website, support etc.

Sounds like you need the multi core fix or something for AMD, maybe you need to check if you removed it or it becamne reset to normal/default mode?

Graphic Problems with Geforce GTX 460
Polovski replied to Andy73's topic in WOFF 1 2 3 / UE - General Help
If you installed any mods for OFF such as HDR Bloom dll or whatever remove it. That pic just looks like very high contrast or something. Also maybe check your settings in the video card display settings maybe you have high gamma or constrast setup somewhere or a colour profile for your old card. -
How to get another dvd as disc lost
Polovski replied to dsawan's topic in WOFF UE/PE - General Discussion
Hi Dsawan - sorry but unfortunately we can't offer free replacements for lost discs. I know in your case you still have the HITR download but for anyone else.. even HITR you need to backup (as you have) or buy download insurance to keep the link available. With regard to being laid off been there done that too as have others in the team so sorry on that. -
Slower because of the extra gun and ammo weight and extra drag.
