View File SF PATINO CLASS OILER FLEET PATINO_CLASS AO / AOR / ESPS / 13-15/07/2017 SF2 E / NA Spanish oiler Pati?o Pati?o is a replenishment oiler of the Spanish Navy. It was named after the Spanish navy minister Jos? Pati?o Rosales, who reorganized the fleet on the orders of Philip V of Spain. The ship was ordered in December 1991 from Navantia. It was launched on 22 June 1994 and completed in June 1995. Pati?o was commissioned in June 1995 with the pennant number A14. The vessel's homeport is at Naval Station Rota. The design of the ship is similar to HNLMS Amsterdam of the Royal Netherlands Navy, the vessels were developed in cooperation. Pati?o was mostly a civilian design. The vessel is 170 metres (560 ft) and measures 17,045 tons but displaces 7,780 tons. The oiler has a crew of 148 plus 20 extra berths. Pati?o is designed to carry up to five - 5 - helicopters. It has a normal complement of only three -3- Sikorsky SH-3 Sea Kings with 19 air crew provided. She was the sixth ship (and second cruiser) of the French Navy to be named after Jean-Baptiste Colbert (the previous one was scuttled at Toulon in 1942). She was designed as a powerful ship, the second of the De Grasse series, able to overcome all threats solely by her guns' weight of fire - she had 57mm and 127mm turrets for a firing rate of one shot per second. Launched on 24 March 1956 in Brest, France, starting her trials on 5 December 1957 and officially entering active service on 5 May 1959, she was made part of a 15-ship squadron, with the main aims of protecting aircraft carriers from air attack, shore bombardment for ground operations, command hub for naval operations and evacuating French expatriates from overseas. Originally named Achéron and intended as an ammunition transport ship, she was converted to repair ship after her keel had been laid. Jules Verne was long based in Djibouti (she was featured on the 10 000-Djiboutian francs banknote). In 1997, she was assigned to the Force d'Action Navale. She was designed to replenish, refuel and repair the ships of an operational force at sea.
