  1. In that case it needs to be good "Out Of the Box" and not reliant on Modders to have to add all the missing things and fix the terrains and actually add more than 3 targets and target locations to campaigns.
  2. Yankee Air Pirate 2 compared to Strike Fighters 2?

I got the entire YAP 1 and the first YAP2 set - YAP1 was great at the time - really changed the game. You basically run the custom missions (the campaigns wont work) only - but they have good missions and challenges - including Helicopters - remember flying the Huey and others for missions - One you had to land in a compound in Saigon and drop some troops off. The AAA and small arms were deadly and there is lots of it. I think they had to stop at WOV 2008 because in SF2 TK removed some of the things like Ramp starts and ability to A-A refuel Cons WOV is single core only - and really best in Win XP. Nice graphical enhancements were introduced in YAP2 but I have to turn the settings right down even with the HDR mod on an i7 for it to run okay in WIn 7 64. Terrain still based on Dueces low res tiles from about 2004 Misses a lot of the changes SF2 brought like proper RWRs and better pits. The SF2V expansion pack is what you need really - it can be used as a great basis because it has the AAA levels similar to YAP (ie what SF2V should have out of the box!!) - but you can run campaigns. Also a lot of target and objects have been placed on the terrain - with a lot of work. I use this as a basis for my only Vietnam install and have changed the campaigns to work with my existing plane set and mods. At Apr 2012 level which I might leave it at I can run single missions from populated carriers as well. Porting Yap to SF2 If you have the time (a lot of time) - some of the missions wont work, some models can be used - but will need the SF2 changes outlined in the knowledgebase - and A/C will need FM changes, carriers need NA changes if running post NA install.
  3. It is harder with much more to learn - and you are also not taking into consideration that in DCS each jet will be different, with different radar modes that will have to be learnt for each jet with different switches to press etc - totally unlike SF2 where one very easy procedure fits all.
  4. Hes raised $13,000! - thats some going
  5. This one in particular http://www.simhq.com/_air/air_055a.html for manual delivery of dumb bombs. Guided LGB, Walleye and HOBOS can be used from the early 70s on the F-4. The A-7E and A-7D do have HUDs with CCIP from about 1970 also.
  6. Ha - every sim I have does things better than other sims - there were YAP features I would want in SF2V by default (target variety for one), but SF2V has better graphics, multicore support and AI upto (Nov 2011) F4 Allied Force had more lethal AI and you could be a FAC - but BMS has a 3D pit, better graphics, better avionics, environment, feeling of flight, and flight models etc. I like the Balkans terrain in DCS - the moving vehicles and features are a nice touch, graphics are nice - feeling of flight is very good, training missions are brilliant.
  7. KGB vs. Teddy bears

I can just see the next headline: GrViper wanted by KGB for posting anti KGB slander - 100 years minimum term
  8. 60 years ago...

Various interceptors including the CF-18 and Danish F-16s had lights on them so they could identify the target even at night - that's not exactly high tech is it - the main point of a manned interceptor is that it can properly identify the target! Shooting down a target you don't identify properly is no better in reality than firing a SAM at a radar blip.
  9. 55 years ago, 6 stood under atomic bomb blast -- on purpose Video and story: http://usnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/07/19/12834002-55-years-ago-6-stood-under-atomic-bomb-blast-on-purpose?lite Assume it was an AIR-2A
  10. Denver Shooting

Truly Terrible - RIP to the victims.
  11. Try to narrow it down to a folder first - just cut and paste out folders from the mod folder until the game works etc
  12. Dont forget the Kickyou! The only real waiting is for the INS to allign - but thats what time accel is for
  13. hmm I don't agree with that - the A-10C is light years away
  14. You could run the flippin Matrix on that Rig!!! - and SF2 still stutters Yes if you get an SSD the interface needs to be SATA 3 for the best SATA Data rate transfer - its about twice as fast as SATA 2. Your mainboard should support SATA 3 if its recent but check it otherwise you wont get the full rate
  15. Typhoid!

    Happy Birthday Typhoid
  16. Yes some Falcon knowledge is useful - however there are so many differences in the A-10 - I mean you would think not having a Radar would mean it was less complex - but no - there is a lot to learn from scratch if you wish and quite a bit to get used to regarding the avionics and weapons profiles. The training missions are very good - and you need to run through them quite a few times definitely. The seat height adjustment - might be going too far. If they can come up with a good SEA terrain and the Vietnam collection (albeit lighter on switchology)then it might be one for the future.
  17. Been flying without visual cues for years - with a TiR an hi res monitor its fine.
  18. Windows 8

I stick Win 7 on 4 to 5 year old dual cores at work - far more stable and quicker in performance than XP - old Intel boards support it as well.
  19. Impressive Artillery piece

    - stop dancing and just fire the bloody thing
  20. Pah - call yourself an aviation enthusiast
  21. The number of rivets must exceed 80% of the real aircraft
  22. Windows 8

I mainly want it for their Surface tablet thing - Will be great with USB ports and I can just use all my fave PC stuff (In theory)
  23. [borat]It is very nice![/borat] Switching everything on and taking off / landing the A-10C is very well done. Back to F4 for now though.
