Air only Campaign
MigBuster replied to F117NightHawk's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
what did you change? -
What type is the bandit? - if its an F-22 it wont show up at 20 miles Are you using realistic avionics? If so - which radar mode are you using? only RWS or TWS for that range Is the radar on? check OVRD is not highlighted What range is the radar set to? Have you ever seen a radar contact (yellow square)?

Not really fussed these days - If I think it sounds good I normally listen to it. when i used to give a toss it was anything with a guitar preferably that heavy fast blues rock sound that I got into via the Stone Roses, which then went into Led Zep, Guns & Roses etc Today Iam listening to a Ministry of Sound 2011 Annual

A nice read with some detailed tech info -
Really sorry to hear that Teras - not a lot you can say to that - you must be going through hell! I really hope someone comes up with a solution to help you guys soon.

There are probably a few videos on you tube about on how to deal with missiles but no way to easily dodge any of them. The best advice I can give you is to use Dogfight mode and start on 1 vs 1 with 2 missiles each - without the practise and knowledge you need from this you will be ejecting everytime - especially at higher levels. In this sim the A-A missiles rarely miss.....
-
The radar generally works ok - the bandit has to be in the sweep though. Your solution is getting the hell out of there and regaining some SA or help from other assets - remember there could be a missile coming at you already. Any idea what range and altitude was the bandit at? - it is basically out of your sweep - or you are not letting it sweep long enough to get a return at a particular angle. TWS is a radar mode - do you mean you can see him on the RWR scope? The scan is limited, RWS and TWS modes are not very useful if the bandit is within 10 miles - because they are too slow - even after you move the antenna you need to wait for the return which will take a few sweeps - also the bandit can get above or below of the sweep at close range - in that case try to use the 60 ACM sub mode and scan for him visually - note this only applies to training modes where bandits don't have missiles.

WINGMAN PROBLEM
MigBuster replied to Cobhc's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Wingmen use the defined loadout in the loadout.ini - or you can change their loadouts manually in the loadout screen in game. Guessing that this is only happening with add on Jets - if you go to the loadout screen and there are no weapons loaded at all - then either the loadout.ini is missing/not set up properly, or you do not have the correct weapons installed into the game that it needs. Look in the data.ini for a section regarding the door and see if you can change the method to manual - as a hint you can probably do this the same way as opening cockpits manually and assigning them to an animation key. -
Wasn't sure if this was still going ahead: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-lincolnshire-13727908 Dam Busters dog renamed for movie remake The black Labrador was run over and killed during the planning of the raids Peter Jackson to film Dam Busters The Dam Busters' dog will be renamed for a new version of the classic war movie, it has emerged. Stephen Fry, who is writing the film's screenplay, said there was "no question in America that you could ever have a dog called the N-word". In the remake, the dog will be called "Digger" instead of "Nigger". The black Labrador was the mascot for RAF 617 squadron, which during World War II destroyed dams in Germany with Barnes Wallis's famous bouncing bomb. Owned by the squadron's wing commander, Guy Gibson, the animal was run over and killed during the planning of the Dambuster raids, and was buried at RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire - from where the operation was launched. Stephen Fry told BBC Radio 5 Live: "It's no good saying that it is the Latin word for black or that it didn't have the meaning that it does now - you just can't go back, which is unfortunate. "You can go to RAF Scampton and see the dog's grave and there he is with his name, and it's an important part of the film. "The name of the dog was a code word to show that the dam had been successfully breached. "In the film, you're constantly hearing 'N-word, N-word, N-word, hurray' and Barnes Wallis is punching the air. But obviously that's not going to happen now. "So Digger seems OK, I reckon." Phil Bonner, from Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre, a privately run Bomber Command museum, said: "I think for the Second World War generation that word was acceptable - but with my daughters growing up in Lincolnshire - they have been taught that the word is unacceptable now. "The film is not about the dog - my big concern would be if they watered down what the Dam Busters had achieved." The 1955 film, which starred Sir Michael Redgrave and Richard Todd, told the story of Barnes Wallis' struggle to develop the bomb and the subsequent raids on Nazi Germany - codenamed Operation Chastise. The remake is being produced by Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson.

Lucky BUFFs?
MigBuster replied to SandyC's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Actually Sandy I should have said that WOV does not take into account the Jamming support that would have been available by such fine aviators as Ezlead, let alone the pods carried by the F-4s! -

From what he describes I'm not sure we are seeing the entire photo there (where is the F-15?)- would need a higher res image - and not easy to tell the actual range either. -

Falklands 1982 Game Crashes
MigBuster replied to Jack Morris's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
So is that the 2008 version? The falklands mod was for a 2006 version of SF1 from what i remember - was there a 2008 update? and what does the read me say because it may need a lot of editing to get it working properly in WOE? To rule out Windows issues, make sure the game folder is not in program files, and run it as administrator - also check this which will apply to Win 7 too : http://combatace.com/topic/34221-running-any-thirdwire-sim-in-windows-vista-by-usafmtl-column5-jtin/ If it still crashes after checking this out its a older file that you have added in to the game causing the crash....somewhere -

A Vietnam Install for WoE?
MigBuster replied to Jack Morris's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I doubt there are any for WOE although you could search the download section - you might be able to get something to work in it but it would probably take a lot of work on your behalf. Suggest you get WOV - dirt cheap at TWs store now - if you have Vista / 7 with a multicore CPU though you need to go SF2V because it will run a lot better. -
