No fly Zone over Libya...
MigBuster replied to Slartibartfast's topic in Military and General Aviation
BBC are reporting this - but say its unconfirmed: French warplanes have shot down a Libyan plane in the first incident of its kind since enforcement of the UN no-fly zone began, a US official said. The incident happened near the besieged western city of Misrata, reports said. Dozens of coalition missiles have already hit military bases, with the aim of ending Col Muammar Gaddafi's ability to launch air attacks. UK officials said on Wednesday that Libya's air force no longer existed as a fighting force. Coalition forces have pounded Libyan targets for a fifth consecutive night. The French military said their planes had hit an air base about 250km (155 miles) south of the Libyan coastline, in an incident apparently unrelated to the shooting down of the Libyan plane. French officials did not give any further information on the location of the target or the damage. One US official quoted by Associated Press news agency said the Libyan plane shot down by France was a G-2/Galeb, a training aircraft with a single engine. The French plane involved was a Rafale fighter, the same US official said. from http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-12850975 -

Behind him his F15 Strike Eagle was a burning wreck. He had parachuted into a field of sheep somewhere near Benghazi airbase and needed to escape - his fellow crew member had landed in another field nearby. Raising his hands in the air he called out "OK, OK" to greet the crowd. But he need not have worried. "I hugged him and said don't be scared we are your friends," said Younis Amruni, 27. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/africaandindianocean/libya/8397953/US-jet-crashes-in-Libya-airman-would-not-have-known-if-he-approached-friend-or-foe.html Make of it what you will Looks like we even get the Serial number of one of the AIM-120s from that BBC vid

Tornado F3, 111 Squadron operations coming to a close
MigBuster replied to Viggen's topic in Military and General Aviation
Thanks for the link - the Tornado F.3 was one of NATOs best interceptors of the cold war IMO - not my type of fighter but great in its role. Sad to see it go. -

Crikey - No way to tell from that video what hit that - an explosion underneath with no indication of the source direction(ok maybe not from directly above ). Any Allied jets there by now? What happened to the ceasefire they declared yesterday!! -
Any Hi Rez TW F-16A Templates About?
MigBuster replied to steelflanker's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - Mods & Skinning Discussion
Nah - only got as far as the tail as a template - but good enough if you are doing standard Grey - you can use bits from the complete 2048x2048 hi res skins: http://combatace.com/files/file/10845-f-16a-hi-res-tail-template/ http://combatace.com/files/file/10777-pack-3-hi-res-f-16a-royal-netherlands-rnlaf/ http://combatace.com/files/file/10778-pack-4-hi-res-f-16a-usaf/ http://combatace.com/files/file/10776-pack-2-hi-res-f-16a-royal-danish-af-rdaf/ http://combatace.com/files/file/10774-pack-1-hi-res-f-16a-belgian-af-baf/ -

Space Shuttle Discovery final flight...
MigBuster replied to Slartibartfast's topic in Military and General Aviation
No technology will ever be 100% reliable and the shuttle has proven to have been very reliable in its service period for what it has to do - you may never see anything as reliable again! Like Concorde retiring this just seems like one giant leap backwards for me (Despite the issues with both) Where do people get the notion that going into space is an easy formality and should be risk free!! -
Take care SidDogg

The explosions on the BBC site as well - lets hope the leak gets contained. Found these:

Terrible scenes on the news - a sad day and little anyone can do against that kind of force.

Newbie Help.
MigBuster replied to OneoftheLost's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
The games only go to about 1983 max as standard - and yes they are keeping it that way - its their target audience! A time period not really covered much but far more interesting - especially when other sims have been nothing but WW1/2/post 80s sims. You will need to learn some new ways to fight. So basically you need to do some modding if you want to give it a more modern time frame. -

Correcting Flight Mode
MigBuster replied to Wad Cutter's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 2 Series - General Discussion
Thats not really a useful comparison unless you are flying jets in IL-2? With single engine props you often get a constant roll in one direction caused by the engine torque AFAIK - you wont see this in jets - unless you are carrying an asymmetric loadout. Wind force and thermals etc are not simulated in SF either that I know of.
