  1. some have probably just given jets lots more thrust in the data ini. To do it without that you need to zoom climb - fly straight as fast as you can go before climbing - you may need to do this several times - the need for a pressure suit is not programmed into the sim.
  2. Probably viewlist.ini - this is the file to edit if you use a trackIR also.
  3. No - my advice is leave dlls well alone. aircraftobject.ini is in the object.cat
  4. How do you identify friend and foe?

Without AWACs you are pretty much blind without some hard work on the radar - even a MiG-21 can sneak up on you if you dont use labels. Sometimes AWACs dont get scheduled - this is where you need to take your first step at managing the campaign and making sure an awacs (E-3 or E-2) is not only airborne - but in range. What to do is in the AF manual - its right clicking on the map basically - and yes you can set up your own packages, fly to your own targets, set up other packages of jets, move ground units - but dont worry too much about that - you can still win by just flying and winning. For example - if you think not enough CAPs are being put up you can set up available Jets to fly them. For Janhas - you need to go to the AF section - most skins on there are for Open Falcon I think. Installing them requires a LOD editor. If you go this route I did include the editor with the F/A-18F skin in the AF download section on this site. The Gamers tools - you need to create an account it sounds like - then you get a link to download all those skins you see on there - with those skins you will need to download and install the skinpack installer - easier than the LOD editor - but depends on your computing knowledge really. The aeyes pits and hitiles are just simple double click .exe installers
  5. The mod folders are here C:\Users\<yourName>\Saved Games\ThirdWire\FirstEagles2 You need to create any folders not there Read section 1 here - its the same thing for SF2 http://combatace.com/topic/44026-converting-older-planes-to-work-in-sf2-a-basic-guide-by-migbuster/
  6. How do you identify friend and foe?

    1. Have you run through the training missions? they are the most important things - you need to learn to use the radar and its modes, and how to move the antenna up and down so you get get bandits above or below your radar sweep. Have only played with everything set to realistic - so would advise you to switch to realistic avionics to stop you wasting time with the easy stuff. WHen you see a blip on the radar - put the cursor over it and get AWACs to "declare" it - make sure it IDs the target as hostile before firing. Your radar in STT mode will ID a target when you have it locked (NCTR) - this may work at a certain range - but I hardly use it IFF is not simulated in AF for whatever reason - I understand in RL you would need an IFF Electronic ID, and an AWACs declare before shooting Some ways round this - 2. Lock the target up - if you hear "Buddy Spike" on the radio you have locked up a friendly. - 2. ask your wingy to attack a target - it will refuse if its friendly. 2. Hi Tiles is a must for AF http://www.hitiles.com/screenshots.htm There are widescreen pits for the various versions at Aeyes site http://www.cockpits.nl/ There are skins you can change - some at thegamerstools.com others at www.JanHas.net - Free Falcon and Open Falcon are two free large mods created by Falcon enthusiasts - they have never been that stable compared to AF but provide better graphics and more detailed avionics. The Free Falcons were large add ons for the Original Falcon 4.0 - I think however FF5.5 is now a standalone install for what I have read. Dont think it works on Win 7 though. Any way dont confuse your self with that go with one game install for now - because if you start another you need to re learn certain things.
  7. Brand new Russian BS OS

Hahaha - nice story! Worrying that the teachers fell for it though
  8. 1. A proper Meatball was never programmed in - afraid its a manual landing. 2. Assume you are talking about a WOV campaign like Rolling Thunder - if so check which dates you fly - if there is a significant time between missions then things will be repaired / replaced. 3. Create another install and try it - check which patch version it needs (latest is Oct 2008). 4. YAP2 is very good - each mission pretty much different - but suggest getting used to base game first - and getting YAP2 if you are into the Vietnam period. YAP needs to run on a 2006 version of WOV btw.
  9. In recent patches the AIM-9B does turn with MiGs sometimes - so its defo been improved to what it was and is probably about right now IMO comparing it with many combat accounts.
  10. You can change the params using the Weapons editor from 3rd wire - pretty easy.
  11. Lunatic Gunman goes on Rampage

The majority of people not owning guns is embedded in our society now which is why it works here. However if someone wants to get a gun and kill a load of people in any country including here - there is nothing to stop them period. Besides - there are 1000 ways to kill someone - but out of the lot using a Gun is probably the quickest and cleanest method - and IMO probably the easiest as you dont have to get close and personal with the victim - or risk them sticking your knife in you!
  12. Yeah its difficult - but with practise I have about an 80% chance of flying behind TU-16/22s and not being hit - you have to keep moving though - and I couldnt do it without a trackIR - its pretty much slash accross at angles. The AIM-9s often just take off a rudder after the missile proximity detonates behind (or is hit by laser fire) - but they will often down IL-28s - I recommend getting below the bombers and firing upwards with all missiles but aqain a lot will miss even when fired in params (The AIM-4D is a lot worse than the AIM-9B- leave it behind - its more use as a paperweight). You can of course add some friendly SAMs (Hawks) into the game - because anything other than an F-4/F-15 taking out large bomber flights is a nightmare - especially if your flight decides to go after the Escorts instead!
  13. Top Gun 2

Iron Eagle was alright - when I was about 8 - but watching it now....well I cant its just ..well - Iron Eagle 2 had a better story line for me - but the execution was just sooo weak - it was embarassing. The best Iron Eagle for me was something I found on the Web - someone had cut out the actors and just put the flight scenes from IE together with some music! - maybe thats how it should have been from the start! As Hollywood jet films go there is only Top Gun and Flight of the Intruder that hold any credibility IMO. There is tons of flying in Top Gun and its great to watch - didnt someone mention its quite an authentic breakdown of the training sylabus - I like the way the character of Maverick is portrayed as an exagerated mixture of Vietnam era navy pilots like Winston Copeland(put in Hack, lost his qualification as section leader etc). I guess if you think there is not much flying in TG you must have been looking at something else - lets hope it was Charlie Havnt seen anything credable for TG2 - but you never know ....
  14. You will - if they are fired in parameters - The AIM-9B is a POS and has limited firing parameters - as it was IRL. If the MiG is turning or you are pulling Gs dont bother firing - it needs a good heat source. The stock AIM-9B is better than it used to be in the game - however at the other end the AIM-9L seems too good IMO haha - didnt realise there was that many in 62 - I get rid of red planes from the map - good job too otherwise i'd be turning around and running also!
  15. Not so straight forward but can be done - see the KB http://forum.combatace.com/forum/190-adding-carriers-to-campaigns/
  16. What jet are you flying and what weapons? The only time I ever saw a #2 refusing orders when not damaged, on bingo fuel, not defensive/offensive was when I loaded 6 AIM-9Ls on all the stock F-16As - reduce it to 4 and for some reason all is well - not sure if this ever got fixed in SF2 because havnt tried it.
  17. Fantastic - thanks for putting that up
  18. You are saying that some of the add on planes don't appear in the single mission drop down box??
  19. Problem with May 2010 b patch

If you reinstall it - does it still run okay at all without 2010B? or do you get the same error?
  20. RIP Dennis Hopper
