RWR Texture in place of Radar !
MigBuster replied to joes_shop's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Someone posted a similar problem at 3rd Wires site so maybe worth checking there - although looking above it looks like you have totally screwed up the install - how do you have the SF 2 Vietnam folder in the First Eagles Folder? Firstly the only 2 games you have that can be merged are WOV and WOE - although my advice is don't bother. Uninstall the whole lot, remove the folders manually - then when you reinstall each game must go to a different location. It Doesnt matter what order you install them in without merging WOV and WOE - but you should end up with something like: Program Files / Thirdwire / First Eagles / Program Files / Thirdwire / SF2 Vietnam / Program Files / Wings Over Europe / Program Files / Wings Over Vietnam / -
Cool - thanks for that info - very useful

Jeez - he must be confident in the market! - whats its real value though? $ 1.5 million maybe

Harriers and hovering?
MigBuster replied to xclusiv8's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
LOL Its not that bad - FCs a jet pilot so tends to know a fair bit about these things. I think 331Killerbee worked on the Harriers for years - and from what I remember, one reason they don't take off Vertically with much of a load is also because of the amount of water required according to him. Also warmer climates mean less engine thrust - for example - in the Falklands the temperature may have been cold enough to allow for max engine performance. -
Exporting WoI aircraft to Woe/WoV
MigBuster replied to Nixou's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I assume you have WOV and WOE at the latest patched version (Oct 08 I think)- if not the newer avionics in WOI wont work in WOV/WOE!! Firstly use the newer catpack extractor which will extract everything from a cat file. You can then just copy over the bits you need. http://forum.combatace.com/topic/44027-extracting-files-from-sf2-series-cat-files-by-migbuster/ The bmp/tga files for the cockpit and avionics go in a "Cockpit" folder within the jets folder. however the cockpit.ini /avionics.ini file will sit in the main jets folder. -

A Quick Question On The 'MOD' Folder
MigBuster replied to Piecemeal's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
There isn't an actual folder called mod as such - the game automatically creates them when you run it for the first time. see step 1 here: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=44026 -
Well its a proven technology in combat - and has some weaknesses but also has massive advantages - so again - there is no comparison unless you compare cost or speed etc!! Also don't forget The F-35 sensors (DAS) and avionics suite should be far in advance of anything else out there.

Nice cockpit photos - and pretty funny reading some of the comments below it shame about the write up though which seems to suggest a whole host of 4.5 gen jets are totally comparable to a 5th gen stealth jet fighter - kinda wishful thinking and lazy journalism.

someone please tell me abot SF2E
MigBuster replied to Abhi's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Nah tons of actual underlying coding changes needed for the avionics/graphics/AI etc - and the work for the new pits would be immense - best off just buying it -
woi aircraft conversion
MigBuster replied to crisisloaner's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
You are talking SF Project 1 or SF Gold here yes? - in which case you need the newest patch for it from thirdwire. Then you simply extract the files for the jet you want from the object.cat in WOI - that may need to include the decals and cockpit files. stick them in a folder called F-4D for example put the folder in the Objects\Aircraft folder in SF - look at how 3rd party Aircraft are made up first to see what you need to do (aka download one from here). Should be something about it on the site already - or on here http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showforum=99 -
Oct 2008 update and Weapon Pack Compatability
MigBuster replied to Rayc's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Which weapons pack are you installing? If its one created before Oct 2008 then it will just over write things with old files and screw the game up if you just install it straight into the game. If you want to use an old pack you have to put the weapons manually into the game - ie install the pack to an EMPTY folder on the desktop then drag the weapons folder over to the exact location. -
Campaign issue
MigBuster replied to Nixou's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The pilot replacement thing is automatic - but might be controlled in one of the files (cant remember) - if you play a campaign over a period of time you will eventually get new pilots. -
With you on that - check out the death star grill :)

Mitchell and Webb are best in The Peep Show - a realistic based comedy where you get to hear what the main characters are thinking and see views through their eyes. Dont think they wrote it but its easily one of the best Brit coms of the last 10 years. The content is not for kids!

AFAIK None of the Canberras had internal guns - wing mounted or otherwise. The Interdictor variants (designated B(I)) could carry a removable belly mounted Hispano 20mm gun pack in the rear part of the bomb bay. The American B-57s on the other hand did have internal guns in the wings. -

BVR Combat Tactics
MigBuster replied to ShrikeHawk's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The Sparrow and Skyflash are Semi Active radar guided missiles - you must keep the enemy jet locked up on your radar otherwise it will miss. These types of missiles are almost useless at BVR and easy to evade - and the if the enemy fires back - you have to break lock also. Assess the situation - check how many blips you are fighting - use another wingmen section to engage and then attack from another angle for example No you cant evade an enemy you cant see! If you are close in only boresight mode is any use - you need to use eyes - or use padlock also. Pah missiles - the 60s were so much better :) -
