SF-series: is there a logfile ?
MigBuster replied to Sokol's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I'm pretty sure it doesn't tbh - at least I havent found one. Do you get any messages when it crashes? If you are playing on a recent patch (which I hope you are) the crash is almost certainly down to a mod. Have you added any mods recently? Did any of those mods include old ini or dll files that are now overiding the games newer ones? Are you using the correct weapons editor to compile the weapondata.ini? -
Excellent - well done Nesher

MigBuster replied to daddyairplanes's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
You should leave the exe where it is - just create a shortcut to it and put that on the desktop -
The whole thing sounds truly pathetic - but what else do you expect from politicians. They use the the word racist to put down people who don't agree with them because they know that the majority of sheep will join them shouting racist racist racist at the person without even thinking. Sounds like when people used to be brandished as a Witch centuries back - Great to see nothings changed really.

Make a copy of the exe - keep it in the main SF2 install folder with the other exes rename it to daddy1.exe for example double click it to run the game - then exit go to your mod folders there will be a new one called daddy1 -

i have some questions
MigBuster replied to EzmeniO's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Do you mean the timing between each bomb dropping? You can change the amount of bombs that fall at a time in game using the [ key to toggle through the amounts. To change the timing between bomb drops its the ] key in game. -
Even with a different system they would still have to iron out a few thousand bugs like this one - and even then doesn't guarantee they wont lose control of it at some point. I thought the thing was supposed to revert to a default course if it lost contact?

Kanye apologised this morning apparently - made himself look like a right arrogant Muppet - which I'm sure he's not http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8253909.stm You wouldnt think Taylor Swift would be that bothered - lets face it she probably saw more talent than Kanye West when she last blew her nose.

WOE V .08.30.06 on vista
MigBuster replied to dobbo999's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Yes WOE is not officially supported for Vista - which is why there is now SF2:E The best thing to do in your case is you need to install the latest Patch for WOE (Oct 2008) from Thirdwires site. Only patch over a clean install with no mods If for some reason you cant patch it there is a Vista fix thread in the knowledgebase for it -
I'm not sure who has really heard of Alan Turing on here - but today the British Prime Minister Gordon Brown on behalf of the Government has apologised for the way he was treated after World War 2. Alan Turing was a mathematician who's work and seminal papers have him labelled as a father of modern AI and a pioneer in computing in some texts. During World War 2 he headed up a team a Bletchley Park that was responsible for breaking the German Enigma codes. After the war they found out he was gay, so effectively sacked him and as a "cure" is said to have been given an experimental chemical castration treatment!! Anyway 2 years later he killed himself - although tbh the government of the time had managed to do that anyway - truly sad. from: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8249792.stm PM apology after Turing petition Gordon Brown has said he is sorry for the "appalling" way World War II code-breaker Alan Turing was treated for being gay. A petition on the No 10 website had called for a posthumous government apology to the computer pioneer. In 1952 Turing was prosecuted for gross indecency after admitting a sexual relationship with a man. Two years later he killed himself. The campaign was the idea of computer scientist John Graham-Cumming. He was seeking an apology for the way the mathematician was treated after his conviction. He also wrote to the Queen to ask for Turing to be awarded a posthumous knighthood. The campaign was backed by Ian McEwan, scientist Richard Dawkins and gay-rights campaigner Peter Tatchell. The petition posted on the Downing Street website attracted thousands of signatures. Mr Brown, writing in the Telegraph newspaper, said: "While Mr Turing was dealt with under the law of the time and we can't put the clock back, his treatment was of course utterly unfair and I am pleased to have the chance to say how deeply sorry I and we all are for what happened to him." National legacy He said Mr Turing deserved recognition for his contribution to humankind. In the statement he said: "So on behalf of the British government, and all those who live freely thanks to Alan's work I am very proud to say: we're sorry, you deserved so much better." Mr Turing's three nieces said they were "delighted" and "very glad" to see the injustice recognised. It's fantastic there has been an apology, says Dr Sue Black of Saving Bletchley Park Welcoming Mr Brown's move, Peter Tatchell of gay rights group Outrage! said a similar apology is also due to the estimated 100,000 British men who suffered similar treatment. "Singling out Turing just because he is famous is wrong", he said. Alan Turing was given experimental chemical castration as a "treatment" and his security privileges were removed, meaning he could not continue to work for the UK Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ). He is most famous for his code-breaking work at Bletchley Park during WWII, helping to create the Bombe that cracked messages enciphered with the German Enigma machines. However, he also made significant contributions to the emerging fields of artificial intelligence and computing. In 1936 he established the conceptual and philosophical basis for the rise of computers in a seminal paper called On Computable Numbers and in 1950 he devised a test to measure the intelligence of a machine. Today it is known as the Turing Test. After the war he worked at many institutions including the University of Manchester, where he worked on the Manchester Mark 1, one of the first recognisable modern computers. There is a memorial statue of him in Manchester's Sackville Gardens which was unveiled in 2001.

The guy was a genius and obviously had a big hand in shaping today's society. To think they couldn't let something as pathetic as that drop for one of our finest minds and a war hero - just shocking. IMO an apology is the least they could do even though its too late. The quote above from Peter Tatchell annoys me a bit tbh "Singling out Turing just because he is famous is wrong" wtf - there is 'famous' for this guy who made some real changes to the world - then theres 'famous' for a film star that....um acts a bit...sometimes - just NOT the word to use!!.

From:http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8244028.stm Flight site hacker 'identified' Avsim is one of the largest sites serving the flight sim community The publisher of a flight simulator site targeted by a hacker in May says it has presented a file of evidence to UK police identifying the perpetrator. Avsim said it had "incontrovertible evidence" about the hacker's identity. The attack wiped data held on two servers and "effectively destroyed" the site, which is still being rebuilt. The US firm said it expected the criminal complaint, filed with London police, to lead to the alleged hacker spending "time behind bars". "We will not name any names, but have incontrovertible evidence of the individual that performed the hack," said Tom Allensworth, the publisher and CEO of Avsim. "We have protected the forensic evidence and provided that evidence to the London police. We are committed to bringing justice to bear on this case." Mr Allensworth told BBC News that the evidence was submitted on Monday to the Southwark division of the Metropolitan Police, which was "acting on behalf of another constabulary". 'Next level' The US site, launched in 1996, covers all aspects of flight simulation, although its main focus is on Microsoft's Flight Simulator. In addition it hosts a forum and allows enthusiasts to download extra content for flight simulations, such as new landscapes. The firm claims it is the most-visited flight simulation site on the internet. "Its contribution has been immeasurable," said Derek Davis, editor of PC Pilot magazine, following the attack. The firm said it had spent $50,000 (£30,000) to bring Avsim back online since the 12 May attack, including $25,000 from users. It said it had filed the criminal complaint after giving the alleged hacker "two opportunities to settle" the case. "The individual did not avail himself of the opportunity - in fact, he has ignored our proffers," Mr Allensworth said in the statement. "We are now doing as we promised this person we would do: ratcheting this up to the next, criminal, level." "We fully expect that the criminal complaint...will result in the perpetrator spending some time behind bars - under UK law." The firm said it was seeking prosecution under laws that "deal with unauthorised use of a computer, unauthorised and criminal theft of data, and numerous other violations of other computer and online laws". The Metropolitan Police could not confirm whether it had received the complaint.

DiD Thirdwire
MigBuster replied to MaverickMike's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Thats still very good - especially if it was the old WOV/WOE versions! I play DiD for campaigns - gives a bit more of a challenge although have completed 5 out of the last 10 or so in SF2V - bit rusty on carrier ops it appears -
Iran decided to keep them as compensation for the Iran / Iraq war I read. Which is fair enough if you consider that war I guess.
