New - Just bought SF2 Europe
MigBuster replied to ds75's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The IR display will only come up when you load and select Mavericks - the display comes from the Missile itself For bombing select the bomb and use the CCIP pipper on the HUD (you can select ripple and timing if you like) For rockets just strafe em simple hey -

MigBuster replied to Snakevenom's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Um the exe file you download from Thirdwire is your game to keep - so Keep it in a safe place after you have installed the game - make sure you back it up to CD or a flash drive -

Sorry - who exactly are you replying to here?? - or is it just an excuse to launch a totally pointless rant over nothing - and not only that but blame people on here.....for silencing them - wtf!!! - thats news to me!!!! Every one has a choice of whether they wish to play MP or not - the new series doesn't have MP due to the reasons stipulated by TK on his forums - he is well aware that some people like MP and wont buy the games because of this. Maybe MP will be added with a later patch - maybe it wont - he has his business plan and he is sticking to it. The MP people can advertise the servers they use all they like on any forum cant they - theres even a virtual squadron forum on here for MP players - shout as loud as you like! - there must be plenty of other MP players out there to join you. -

AI Attackers/Bombers and Air to Air...
MigBuster replied to SayethWhaaaa's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
In my experience: Attack will try to evade and get low - like the IL-28 for example. Fighter will attack you if they have guns - but if they have no guns and missiles they just seem to evade or make a run for the target. Bomber will fly high in formation and rely on guns if they have them. -
The latest patch for SFP1 is October 2008 - which is quite a different game to the 2006 version - loads of new code etc Some of those jets may not work properly in the 2006 version - check to see what year they were made. ALso you may have ones created before better avionics were put into the games - so check for updated versions. Patch is on here http://www.thirdwire.com/downloads.htm - but you cant really patch a game youve added mods too - so take the mods out - or start again.

Modders: What Do You Concentrate On?
MigBuster replied to Dave's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Apart from F-16s it tends to be whatever I'm interested in at the time - through reading books etc. ini edits and basic skinning no problem - although most wont believe the hours that go into my substandard work sometimes!! -
No end
MigBuster replied to salcidomd's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Either start taking out mods until you find the problem (its probably a mod tbh) OR Best thing - backup the mods you want to keep - then uninstall/reinstall the game - put the latest patch on (only if it needs it) then test the game - then lastly add the mods in carefully. -
Hey pals, I'm back again with RoCAF skin for F-5F!

An SF2 Series Experiment........
MigBuster replied to 331Killerbee's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
You might be on to something there - some jets that were a bit "sticky" moving round them in F6 view are a lot less so - had put it down to them having bigger LODs - will see how it goes Possibly time well spent -

MigBuster replied to Pratch's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Heres one i wrote earlier all the cockpits are new higher poly count ones - you get 3 different pits for F-100 alone - all have more funtionality. The RHAW code has been totally rewritten to a vector type display AN/APR-25(V) and IP-957/APR-36(V) - the squares are long gone. Most of the 3D models have been reworked and the skins are higher res not least more improvements in graphics (for DX10) and more AI work. New 3D models are included for the A-7C/D/E with pits and the A-1H/J and most of the F-8 versions are there now. Please to see he's made the loadouts more realistic in regards to ECM pods and has added an ALQ-101 out of the box. The new file system is ace - keeps the core files separate meaning newbies are less likely to delete dlls etc - and the ability to merge the whole lot means patching once for all the SF2 installs - if you like that sort of thing. -
a question about LOD files
MigBuster replied to daddyairplanes's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
skin names should be: F-4D_78_1.bmp F-4D_78_2.bmp F-4D_78_3.bmp F-4D_78_4.bmp F-4D_78_5.bmp -
AAA - Tracer Visibility and "Wake Up" Time
MigBuster replied to swambast's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
1. not sure - there may be a tracer.ini or something like that in your effects folder that you might be able to change 2. thats what should happen - am glad the game recreates that to some extent - one of the reasons your not supposed to keep flying over the same target Bonus Question: The most deadly flak by far was in YAP1 - even the higher up stuff (M1939) was lethal - havnt played YAP 2 yet as the system cant really handle it. -
What version of the game is it? - should tell you in the bottom right hand corner of the menu screen Have you installed the version of Direct X 9 required? Assume you havnt added any mods yet? if so take em out.

Now F-35 is in a bit of trouble
MigBuster replied to Julhelm's topic in Military and General Aviation
It wouldnt be that bad surely - weve managed for the past 29 years okay with Harriers. Some positives would be: 1. Ramps don't fail like steam catapults. 2. The Jets can land pretty much anywhere and don't need long runways 3. A quantum leap in progress from the Harrier. And before anyone says - yes they can land pretty much anywhere so when the carrier goes down at least we save the planes! The AEW thing is not so good - agree there As for refuelling - even A-4s with buddy packs managed that - they can get something for the F-35 too surely -
Mig-17 maneuverability and FM
MigBuster replied to guyran's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
By 1972 some of the VPAF pilots had 6+ years combat experience in various MiGs - and im pretty sure they had to be on alert 24/7 during most of that time. One pilot mentioned a lot is Tranh Hanh - one of the first fighter pilots to complete training in China - became a flight leader of the 921st in 1964, promoted to command the 921st in 1966 - became deputy commander in chief of the VPAF in 1976!! "Considered to have exceptional aeronautical skill". Although he claimed kills is not actually listed in the leading VPAF aces. sadly he only mentions 3020 in its June 1968 state used by the 923rd - which already has 7 stars on it - and saying it was used by (claimed) 6 kill ace "Le Hai" at that time. On the 10th May 72 he only lists 2 pilots being shot down in MiG-17s (Nguyen Hang/ Nguyen Van Tho)- but then again he is sticking to what he was given access to in the late 1990s (which you would hope he was doing!!) -

MigBuster replied to guyran's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Unfortunately Colonel Tomb didn't actually exist - even Wikipedia tells you that Istvan Toperczer who has has researched VPAF war files tells us Colonel Tomb or Toon was fictitious. A photo of a MiG-21PF (4326) with 13 kill markings was released in 68 to the worlds press who its said wrongly credited the markings to a single pilot who they assumed was Colonel Tomb - but in fact the tally was made up by several pilots who flew 4326. The real VPAF ace of aces "Capt Nguyen Van Coc" actually flew that MiG-21PF. Many of the aces flew both types. -
