MigBuster replied to JRA's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
AFAIK In real life the Have Drill eval concluded that the A-4, A-6 and A-7 should not engage the MiG-17 - and if faced with one: Jettison non A-A stores Unload, Dive and accelerate Utilize better roll rate run out at max airspeed and minimum altitude Below 450kts the MiG-17 was proven it could out turn any of them and most other things back then. In this sim you can beat the MiG-17F in a turning fight with any A-4 - but stick an experienced human in it (ie multiplayer) and the MiG-17F will give you your A on a plate - as i found out last year! -

Bunyap's Weps Pack
MigBuster replied to Commander_92's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Cant see any - the latest is Aug 2008 for WOI which will work if there are just weapons in the pack If you don't want to do it manually make sure you make a copy of the entire game folder as a back up before trying it out -
Bunyap's Weps Pack
MigBuster replied to Commander_92's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
No Unlikely - in fact that may be the one that replaces all the stock jets data inis with old ones!!. The best way you can use the weapons in put them in manually - that is install the weps pack to a new empty folder on your desktop. Then move the weapons (copy and paste) you want from the weapons folder in the new folder - into your games weapons folder one. then find the weapondata.ini and either copy the weapon entries you want - or use the weapons pack to merge it - then delete the ones you dont want. -
Help modding WoI
MigBuster replied to JRA's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
You may need to change the F-8 Nation to ISRAEL in its data ini Also in the woicampX.ini make sure you change the entry that corresponds exactly to the squdron you have changed [israelUnit001] UnitName=No. 101 First Fighter Squadron ForceID=1 UnitID=1 <----this is [AIRUNIT001] in the woicampX.data ini StartDate=06/05/1967 AircraftType=Shahak <change to F-8D/E etc DescFile=woi1Start.txt StartText=woi1Start.txt -

adding ground objects to SF2:Vietnam
MigBuster replied to markkyle66's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Oh - didnt think youd dumped the whole lot in Take it all out again and only put back in what you need - probably just some of the guns and the SA-7 The thing is a lot of the objects are set up to appear in custom single missions - so they work how they wanted to. In YAP the objects are placed manually All the objects you see on a terrain are also placed manually and are defined in a file somewhere Now objects defined as Tanks and Mobile_AAA will be chosen randomly in single missions like planes are - however - and heres an example if you look in the waterbuffalos data ini you will see its defined as a tank So on your next CAS mission you could get a load of water buffalo - well each to his own i suppose but you see the point im getting at - if you want objects to appear on the terrain or in custom single missions they need to be placed manually in the correct coords etc -
adding ground objects to SF2:Vietnam
MigBuster replied to markkyle66's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Any type of objects in particular? Make sure each object has ini and data ini files and is in service when you are playing. Also if they are sams or guns you would need to put the relevant SAM in weapons and add the gun it needs with the gun editor. -

Its rare but ive seen similar things in the game - and been annoyed. Premature proximity fuse not getting close to cause enough damage maybe. -
Question about F-4 loadouts
MigBuster replied to malibu43's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Actually - I have a couple of photos of a very weird USAF F-4D Loadout - (well to me) Inner wing pylons both have TERs and a single AIM-4D on each inner rail on each TER there is: 2 x MK82 1 x ALQ-87 on the bottom rail also 6 x MK82s on centerline MER 2 x AIM-7s in Bays 2x 370 tanks If i get access to a scanner will put em up -

Gawd - no doubt UK people on here probably remember the "Carry on up the Khyber" comedy film - where a British Garrison in the 1800s held order in part of India because everyone feared them - until they found out the soldiers all wore pants under there kilts! - and there was a massive revolt :) hope the same thing doesn't happen there lol -
Question about F-4 loadouts
MigBuster replied to malibu43's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Yes what mppd said + they also used versions of the ALQ-101 and others of that era like the ALQ-87 - in fact there is an early ECM pod pack somewhere for download - which includes different versions of each pod also. The electronic war in Vietnam developed fairly quickly - ECM pods would be used - then the NVA SAM operators found a way to beat the jamming - so newer pods were used, then the NV would beat it again using other techniques such as "Home On Jamming" - and the next pods would beat that etc etc. I noticed in SF2V TK has renamed the QRC-160-1 which was the original naming convention for the ALQ-71 (I think) and has put in the ALQ-101 by default - and has even put default ECM loadouts on most of the jets now - although on the F-4 this is always the inboard wing pilots. Where as a single pod in a forward sparrow bay was more common later in the war on the real jets from what i can see. Still saved me a bit of work - had to change the whole lot in WOV
