SF2V vs SF2
MigBuster replied to dada1's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
SF2V is very good IMO a lot of improvements made to the entire game. You wont get Intercept missions or a land war in campaigns by default it looks like - thats in SF2 or wait for SF2E -
Class - used to love playing that guitar part!

F-102...
MigBuster replied to Lt. James Cater's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
AFAIK the AIM-4D is supposed to have the same seeker head as the AIM-4G but be more suited to air combat hence why it was chosen as the USAFs champion :) - although i think the G and F have much larger warheads. On many a mission the AIM-4A/B/C/D hardly dent bombers even when they are hit - even removed the armour from the tu-95A and they still get minimal / no damage by the smaller falcons - when they hit! I did up the values of some of the AIM-4s - the G/F were already really high - but my thinking was they should hit a bomber flying in a straight line without counter measures (short of malfunctions) - otherwise having a fighter without a gun was a complete waste of time!! I managed to down quite a few bombers with the ffars - its interesting to use them. The SEA skin by KB looks ace -
F-35 RWR SOUND NOT WORKING:(:(:(
MigBuster replied to boris1234's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
dont have the f-35 - although look in its avionics.ini file and see if it has these bits: if you do - see what names you have in there for tracksound= and locksound= [RWR] Type=3_RING AirSearchTexture=RWRair1.tga AirTrackTexture=RWRair2.tga AirLockTexture=RWRair2.tga GroundSearchTexture=RWRground1.tga GroundTrackTexture=RWRground2.tga GroundLockTexture=RWRground2.tga SearchPosition=0.90 TrackPosition=0.55 LockPosition=0.15 SearchSize=0.075 TrackSize=0.075 LockSize=0.075 SearchFlash=FALSE TrackFlash=TRUE TrackFlashRate=0.2 LockFlash=TRUE LockFlashRate=0.1 TrackSound=RWRTrackSound.wav LockSound=RWRLockSound.wav [RWRTrackSound] Priority=HIGH 3DSound=FALSE Looped=TRUE NumBuffers=1 [RWRLockSound] Priority=HIGH 3DSound=FALSE Looped=TRUE NumBuffers=1 -
Saw this at 3rd Wire: This is their response when asked about backups- "Some have asked whether or not we had back ups. Yes, we dutifully backed up our servers every day. Unfortunately, we backed up the servers BETWEEN servers. That is, GREEN, our library server, would be backed up to PURPLE, our WEB/Forum server. That way, if one or the other failed, we would have a back up on the remaining active server. The hacker took out both servers, destroying our ability to use one or the other back up to remedy the situation." Ive never used avsim either but sounds a real shame - and as said above there is no excuse for not having it properly backed up. Their kind of rudimentary load balancing act above FAILED and was not thought through if they thought it would be adequate.

Really sorry to hear that David - thats some inspiration to have in the family

IS this related? from http://www.defencetalk.com/us-buys-su-27-f...training-18795/ US buys Su-27 fighters from Ukraine for ‘aggressor’ training MOSCOW: The United States has bought two Su-27 Flanker fighter aircraft to help train U.S. air force pilots to cope with the growing number of 4th-generation Russian aircraft sold around the world, a U.S. online magazine said. The two aircraft have been bought from a private Ukrainian company by the Reno-based Tac Air, which provides training and test support for the military. The fighter jets will also be used to test the effectiveness of new U.S. radars and electronic warfare equipment, the Strategy Page reported. The 33-ton Su-27 is similar to the U.S. F-15, but costs some 30% less, the source said. Su-27 fighter jets have been produced in Russia since 1982. They are still widely used in the Russian Air Force and are gradually undergoing maintenance repairs to extend their service life. The Su-27 Flanker and its variant, the Su-30 Flanker C, account for a major share of Russia's arms exports. In the past, Russia's Sukhoi aircraft maker sold Su-27 and Su-30 fighters to China, India, Malaysia, Venezuela and Algeria. In 2007, Sukhoi exported 50 of these aircraft, accounting for 50% of Rosoboronexport's export revenues. According to U.S. sources, the two aircraft, which have been acquired in a commercial variant, stripped of weaponry, are being overhauled and modified by the U.S. Pride Air company.

Strike Fighters 2 Vietnam is Released!
MigBuster replied to Gr.Viper's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well interesting - can TK actually continue to support all the first AND second generation games fully?? Wouldnt be so bad - at least i wouldnt feel i had to keep redoing all my modded installs when another patch came out :) -
depends - Has the plane been around a few years? - if so it was probably designed in an earlier game version - at lot has changed since the original game was released so it may not work as well in the latest game versions - and if thats the case the flight model would need to be re done.
-
cool - had no idea - check out the A-10s
-
Thats impressive - if it actually works will be like flying with the cockpit switched off and labels turned on - like a sim on easy haha. The next version is in the pipeline already :)

THIRD WIRE FEATURES
MigBuster replied to Veltro2k's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Would like the Ability to give weapons to all jets in a flight as a group or individually in the loadout screen. Would like the AI to stop attacking bombers from the rear and getting shot down without fail Would like jets under AI control without RWRs to not go ape when they get a radar lock on them - and be able to sneak up on them occasionally - like the good old days - am guessing its one way or the other though!. -

Grrr -
When you reinstalled - what version did you patch it up to? An unistall wont clear everything up - you may need to clean out some left over bits before reinstalling - which was Lead Pursuits advice - search some old threads here there was a procedure - its been covered before If on a USB mouse try another USB port. - may be worth uninstalling the mouse drivers and restarting if your on ps2 also carry out some basics - defrag / scan disk etc
-
really?? Check the actual build version on the setup screen Im on version 1.013 - thats patch 13 btw Suggest you get it here - fixes loads of things and adds other bits http://www.lead-pursuit.com/downloads.htm

Modding in Vista
MigBuster replied to sneekyp19's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
You didn't need to delete anything tbh - the skin for an aircraft will be in a subfolder of the actual aircraft itself so check its there - at least i think it is - have'nt had time to install sf2/sf3v yet :) The knowledge base is mainly written for the first generation of games - SF2 and SF2:V have completely different file structures to the previous games but they are still essentially the same game - just search on a few old threads and you will see where you need to put things in the new games. -

Lovely job - love the jet too was flying it in WOE last week -
The F-16D is already in Falcon 4 Allied Force - it should appear automatically during training - unless you have not patched it up. what version of the sim are you running?
