MigBuster replied to eagle89's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
You need to get a program like FRAPs or Gamecam that can record as you play. -

F/A-18F Super Hornet and E/A-18G Growler skin

Scenery Skin for the F/A-18F Super Hornet and E/A-18G Growler (Falcon 4: Allied Force) 1024x1024 Falcon 4 Allied Force has planes that are unskinned - and until you play the campaigns you don’t realise what a killer this is seeing a bright white jet! Anyway it’s annoyed me enough to do these skins. The following instructions are for installing the skins using LOD Editor: (trust me it ain't rocket science! But you need to be careful) NOTE: The same model and skin is used for the F/A-18F and E/A-18G so we are only installing this once. This skin can only be installed fully using LODEditor I’m afraid due to a fault with the 3D model. Any version that uses the skin pack installer will not have skinned wheels, engine nozzles, pilots and the campaign will still use the unskinned Set 2. -
Do you have a single or multi core processor?
MigBuster replied to samtheeagle's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Dual cores were out of my price range in the dark ages (2005 ) - next system will be multi core though -
A YF-22 and an XB-70 in 1 picture - nice one! That Valkyrie is massive!

Converting skins for use in Allied Force
MigBuster posted a file in FALCON 4.0: Allied Force by MicroProse

There are many unskinned jets in Allied Force - and I haven’t got enough years left to make skins for all of them - so if you are that bothered about unskinned jets this is a brief how to on how to convert files for use with Falcon 4:Allied Force. I could just post the skins Ive converted over but they are not my skins – so you will need to do a bit of DIY. The process is very time consuming but not difficult although probably not for the faint hearted Guide is in Word 2002 and html formats. -
Tips anyone?

And never ever ever dive into 400 Mig-21s - particularly if you are listening to barbers Adagio for Strings on your winamp thing :no2: -
Questions about multiplayer gaming
MigBuster replied to Rover's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
1. See the knowledgebase : http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=8452 there may be some other old threads on this also 2. not sure really - think SF Gold could play online with Strike fighters - but as for the other versions there may be too many differences. Usually both players have to have the same installs with the same jets etc. -
Tips anyone?
MigBuster replied to 101Airborne's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Very rarely play music while flying personally - although when I have ive just ran Media Player in the background. I realise a lower spec PC may not be able to handle this but its worth a try. -

Scenary skin for the F/A-18E (Falcon 4: Allied Force ) 1024x1024 This is a slight rework of my E/A-18G skin - Falcon 4: Allied Force has various planes that are unskinned - and until you play the campaigns you dont realise what a killer this is seeing a bright white jet while browsing through the freindlies! Anyway its annoyed me enough to do these skins. The included instructions are for installing the skins using LOD Editor - though trust me it ain't rocket science - just time consuming. Once I have time I may get it to work with the skinpack installer from gamers tools if any demand. -
FAC mission type and loadout
MigBuster replied to KingAlbert's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Would be a challenge flying a bird dog low and slow against the lethal AAA in this sim and the Migs - I believe YAP2 will feature player flyable FAC missions so expect small arms fire too. In Falcon 4 you lock up ground targets and then assign flights checked in with you to attack it - not always an easy job though. To do that in this series I guess the flights assigned must be part of your squadron. -
Photo Add Ons
MigBuster replied to Piecemeal's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
SHould have said really Convert the pic to a JPEG/ JPG - you can do that by using the Save As in your photo editor (ie gimp, photoshop, Windows picture manager etc) You shouldnt lose much quality (if you do just install gimp) - and basically you end up with a much smaller file. PhotoBucket is good in that after you have uploaded your jpg - it has some boxes below it with the links you can copy. You can then just copy the URL of the image and come back here - click the insert image button then paste the url youve just copied from photobucket into the box -
Try this in SF! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/7406041.stm

Last dogfight episode this Sat, season 2 on sale.
MigBuster replied to tmdgm's topic in Military and General Aviation
I think a lot can change over 20 years and in some respects it has. I would put the the technology growth since 1988 down to a steady growth in the computing industry caused by cheap silicon enabling better hardware and thus better software. Electrical and mechanical components can now be made with more precision and more compact because of this. In some ways you could say that since 1988 there have been only gradual changes linked to this growth - eg for military AC - Better avionics, more intelligent missiles, more efficient and powerful jet engines, and better wireless data communication techniques. As far as stealth goes - well er better ways to maintain the RAM coating on the F-22 I suppose - pretty sure the shape and fly by wire system could have been done back in 88 anyway. Lasers, Scramjets and AI have been researched for years so far - we just need the breakthrough. And if Lasers can shoot down rockets that is something we do actually need now - so you think a lot would be going into it. The optimistic outlook on Lasers and AI seems to have turned sour recently - I only studied AI for a year so know sweet FA - however some top bods are pretty much dismissing intelligent AI with emotion at the mo. As for the head of LM's quote - if he has a spaceship that can do Warp 10 and that transporter thing then that would be some trick. -
Well said that girl - some good coverage on the BBC today also.

doh! - was looking forward to the landing but then he cheated and used a parachute

Hello Vulture - welcome to CA The answer is I cant remember tbh - always lose my pilot after reinstalling - and im not that bothered about keeping the log (I know you can) Anyway looks like you are not far off - so keep plugging away - you could try asking at frugals also.

Easiest thing to do is hit the round AA (either that or Air) button just below the HUD in 2D cockpit. I try and use the pit for everything - so much easier to remember things.
