BVR Combat revisited
MigBuster replied to Basher11's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Yeah lots of people Only viable in a pit where most of the dials work etc - and on a big v high res monitor - otherwise seeing things close in is an eye straining nightmare. -
Windows Vista Problem
MigBuster replied to =GER=Stefan's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well I dont speak German - but this is the Falcon 4.0 AF forum. The Knowledgebase has instructions for running WOE on Vista - if someone can translate -
How embarassing - its got a nice flat belly to land on at least! Think that pilot will be flying a cargo plane full of rubber dog**** out of Hong Kong! - to quote from something

Phantom Tactics - At Least Some Things to Try
MigBuster replied to wagsled's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Amazing thanks - that info is gold - am saving it as we speak! Will be practising this tactic a lot more now - using the auto/boresight mode and zooming in so I can get a tally on the blighter! -
BVR Combat revisited
MigBuster replied to Basher11's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well there are quite a few from the 50s and 60s also (F-105, F-100, Mig-17, Mig-21, F-4, SU-7, Hawker Hunter) The AIM-54A Phoenix was in service from about 1975 I believe - although its in the weps pack -
Do you have UberAI V2.0 file?
MigBuster replied to Basher11's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Sure - make sure you have it patched up though http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=2673 -
Yes you should be able to use the LAU-5003A - makes sure the master arm is on - hit the button and all 19 should fire out. I havnt used them myself in years - they bring you too close to the small arms ground fire and MANPADs - so not recommended unless you like taking low level risks.

Phantom Tactics - At Least Some Things to Try
MigBuster replied to wagsled's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Thanks Wags - I thought this may have been cheating the ROE a bit - since I would be dragging the Mig away from the flight and then firing a shot at something that couldnt be Identified too well from maybe 5 miles or so (or the minimum enagement range for the Sparrow). Was the real radar any use at identifying a smaller target or was it a case of using binoculars? -
WOV mission results in Campaign ?
MigBuster replied to verde13's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
1. Some of the bridges have different sections - you have to destroy the correct section sometimes to complete the mission. 2. Just accept it as good luck - maybe the Navy and AF didnt talk to each other and decided to bomb the same target etc -
Phantom Tactics - At Least Some Things to Try
MigBuster replied to wagsled's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
So to sum up - poor missiles, a gun pod that was so bad pilots felt it better to leave at home and a jet with the flying characterics of a brick - also BVR missiles you had to use at visual range - cant think of many other ways to make it more of a challenge really - other than to only fly on 1 engine :) The gunpods always been a must for me in this sim if available - becomes invaluable after Ive jettisoned the AIM-4Ds into the ether. On the other hand flying the F-4B in an early 64 nam campaign captures some of that futility by having 4xAIM-9Bs and 4x AIM-7s to fight the Mig-17s with - sometimes all you can think of doing is to try and lure the Migs away. Difficult enough against the poor AI - but against a real pilot probably a nightmare. -

Now thats interesting - Im pretty sure the fuel consumption can be changed in the data.ini file for each aircraft - which I may have to make a point of doing now :) YAP have stuck in some KC-135s - though you cant take fuel from them - if you are low you just have to make it to the tanker and pretend. Many thanks for that -
No top notch - many thanks for your time Two planes at a time is possible in this series - in the Yankee Air Pirate missions a lot are started with both you and the wingman on the runway so you can attempt to do the formation takeoff (and fail miserably) - not sure ive seen a 4 plane take off attempted though.

SFG hangs on launch
MigBuster replied to ndicki's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
How old is this install? have you modded it much - the first thing I would do is copy the entire current game to a back up folder. then uninstall SFG via "Add/Remove progs" and manually delete any remnants (apart from the backup folder of your game of course) - then reinstall it and test it BEFORE modding it. my DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904) -
Not seen that before - have you patched Allied Force to the latest patch? (1.0.13)

WOV F-4 Phantoms
MigBuster replied to GreyCap's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
You can also change the blackout parameters by extracting "aircraftobject.ini" (goes in the objects folder) and tweaking these: [PilotGLimits] BlackoutStartG=9 BlackoutAmount=0.035 RedoutStartG=-2.5 RedoutAmount=0.05 RestoreRate=0.05 -
SFG hangs on launch
MigBuster replied to ndicki's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Dont play with the start up video myself - usually just delete it Open up IntroMovies.ini (in the games root folder) and change it to this: [Movie001] Name= Not counting on it but see if anything improves -
Milton Keynes - thats a Tesco price - come to think of it its probably 95p now but its still well under a pound here (remembering back to last weeks fill up). You are too near to London! :)

Various Questions
MigBuster replied to Basher11's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Is that a photo? - My Airplane encyclopedia (~1991) mentions the overwing pylons as a hasty 'Mod' for operation Granby about 3 times. I suppose they could have been specced out but hardly used before then - lazy authors! -
WOV F-4 Phantoms
MigBuster replied to GreyCap's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Woah many thanks for that analysis Wagsled! Its interesting that you did find some simularities with the real F-4 at least. I suspect poor old TK is going to have to rework a lot of flight models for the next set of patches out soon to bring SFP1 etc up to WOI standard. -
Various Questions
MigBuster replied to Basher11's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Probably easier to copy the desert terrain folder to WOE tbh
